This study proposed a novel extraction method of c-Fos protein regions in DAB(3,3'-diaminobenzidine)-stained mouse brain slice images using the U-Net model combined with the multi-channelization and 1×1 convolution techniques. Our U-Net m odel, called 1× 1 conv U-Net, was applied to three DAB- strainedmouse slice images whose resolutions were 1000x1000 pixels. The experimental results demonstrated that the 1×1 conv U-Net outperformed the conventional U-Net. © 2024 IEEE.

The ATT&CK MITRE framework serves as an expansive repository of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures. Given the sheer volume of these intricate attack patterns, the conventional manual navigation method proves to be time-intensive and less efficient for security analysts. As a remedy, there arises a compelling necessity to present the rich content encapsulated within the ATT&CK MITRE repository through interactive visualizations. In this paper ATT&CKViz an interactive web-based cyber-Attack patterns visualization tool is presented that aims to empower security analysts with the ability to effortlessly explore the repository from diverse angles, which facilitates deep insights into cyber threats. The aim is to understand cyber threat efficiently with a timely response. The empirical evaluations depict that effectiveness and user-friendliness of ATT&CKViz. © 2024 IEEE.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a debilitating inherited retinal disorder that affects a significant number of individuals worldwide. Existing diagnostic methods have limitations in detecting early-stage RP and they highlight the need for using additional imaging modalities. In this paper, a groundbreaking approach for RP diagnosis is proposed using three imaging modalities and a CNN-based classification model achieving 97.7% accuracy. The proposed model demonstrates superior performance compared to previous work as it achieves higher accuracy. A segmentation model was also proposed to segment pigment spots and provide doctors with effective monitoring of the disease. The proposed segmentation model outperforms previously used methods by achieving 99.61% accuracy and higher values in most of the performance metrics, including specificity, precision, and Area Under Curve (AUC). The Segmentation and classification models were integrated into a web application providing a user-friendly and intuitive tool for RP diagnosis and paving the way for more accessible and effective diagnostic tools. This innovative approach democratizes healthcare by making RP diagnosis affordable and accessible to more people and improving the speed of clinical decision-making. © 2023 IEEE.

The generation of synthetic well log data is crucial for enhancing the understanding and exploration of subsurface reservoirs. This paper introduces a novel Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) model that incorporates a Principal Component Analysis (PCA)-based loss function to improve the quality of synthetic well log data. The proposed method is distinguished by its ability to generate complete well log datasets, rather than just individual logs or completing partial logs. Traditional GANs utilize cross-entropy loss but often fail to capture the complex structural patterns inherent in well logs. By integrating PCA into the loss function, our model not only distinguishes real from synthetic data but also ensures that the synthetic data retains the intrinsic variability and relationships observed in real logs. We validate our approach using histograms, correlation heatmaps, dimensionality reduction techniques (PCA and t-SNE), and a discriminative task. Results show that synthetic data generated with PCA-based loss aligns closely with real data, demonstrating superior preservation of statistical and structural characteristics. This advancement in synthetic data generation holds promise for enriching subsurface data analysis and exploration. © 2024 IEEE.

Blockchain platforms offer traceability, integrity, immutability and availability by native construction, providing resources for auditors to attest the security and temporal traceability of data stored in the blocks. However, permissioned blockchain platforms do not provide confidentiality and non-repudiation natively for sensitive user data. In this work, Confidentialchain is proposed as a hybrid cryptography schema to aggregate the characteristics of confidentiality and non-repudiation to a confidential data storage system, which is executed on a permissioned blockchain network, ensuring sufficient confidence for the subsequent secure use of sensitive user data that are stored on the blockchain network. © 2024 IEEE.

The popularization increase of MMORPGs demands new technological approaches to supply users’ requirements with a lower cost of computational resources. Designing these architectures, from the network point of view, is relevant and impacts these games’ success. We analyze and identify the computational resources consumed by the architectures Rudy, Salz, and Willson, which are microservices architectures elaborated for MMORPGs. These architectures were analyzed and tested using automated clients on the architectures deployed in our private computational cloud to identify resource bottlenecks. We conclude the performance, from the point of view of response time, is related to better use of CPU, either by data storage microservices or by data processing microservices. In addition, the application of queuing systems or barriers to manage access or minimize the consumption of an internal service proved feasible, directly impacting the flow of data through the architecture.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a microvascular complication related to diabetes that affects approximately 33% of individuals with this condition and, if not detected and treated early, can lead to irreversible vision loss. Fundus lesions such as Hard and Soft Exudates, Hemorrhages, and Microaneurysms typically identify DR. The development of computational methods to segment these lesions plays a fundamental role in the early diagnosis of the disease. This paper proposes a new approach that uses an R2U-Net combined with data augmentation techniques for segmenting fundus lesions. We trained, adjusted, and evaluated the proposed work in the DDR dataset, achieving an accuracy of 99.87% and a mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) equal 59.69%. Furthermore, we assessed it in the IDRiD dataset, achieving an mIoU of 49.92%. The results obtained in the experiments highlight the potential contribution of the model in the lesion annotations for creating new DR datasets, which is essential given the scarcity of annotations in publicly available datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

Hypertension is a noncommunicable disease (NCD) that causes global concern, high costs and a high number of deaths. Internet of Things, Ubiquitous computing, and Cloud computing enable the development of systems for remote and real-time monitoring of patients affected with NCDs like hypertension. This paper reports on a system for monitoring hypertension patients that was built by employing these techniques. This system allows the vital signs of a patient (blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature) to be captured via sensors built in a wearable device similar to a wristwatch. These signals are transmitted to the patient's mobile device for processing, and the generated clinical data are sent to the cloud to be properly presented and analysed by the health professionals responsible for the patient. To deal with semantic interoperability issues that arise when multiple different devices and system components must interoperate, a semantic model was conceived for this system in terms of ontologies for diseases and devices. This paper also presents the semantic module that we developed and implemented in the cloud to perform reasoning based on this model, demonstrating the potential benefits of incorporating semantic technologies in our system. As individuals age, the brain undergoes structural, functional and connectivity changes. Brain activity and anatomy do not always correspond, then evolving differently. In this regard, Independent Component Analysis (ICA) for brain parcellation proves advantageous in studying brain function with a comprehensive and flexible approach that spans across all stages of life. We proposed a method based on ICA that estimates coherent anatomical networks based on functional connectivity patterns. AV1 is a codec developed by huge technology companies to be used in current and future commercial video applications. It introduces and improves several tools from its predecessor VP9, designed for various video scenarios. One of the improved tools is the Fractional Motion Estimation (FME), which generates sub-pixel predictors. AV1 employs four sets of interpolation filters, requiring significant computational effort during the Interpolation Filter Search (IFS) to identify the best filter to be used. This work proposes the FIFS, a machinelearning method developed to reduce the processing time of IFS while maintaining minimal impact on coding efficiency. This method achieves over 52% reductions in IFS time, with only a slight increase in BD-BR of $\mathbf{0.14 \%}$ . To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first work in the literature to propose a machine learning-based approach for the AV1 IFS.
