In this study, we explore the classification and prediction capabilities of three models—Genetic programming (GP), Logistic Regression (LR), and the Kolmogorov-Arnold Network (KAN)—on the task of sodium-ion battery life prediction. By leveraging a dataset composed of multiple battery characteristics, we aim to determine the remaining power of sodium-ion batteries using these machine learning models. The KAN model, being a novel approach, demonstrates superior performance across various metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, when compared to the other two models. This highlights the potential of KAN as a robust model for complex classification tasks in the field of battery life prediction.

Dreams offer a unique window into the cognitive and affective dynamics of the sleeping and the waking mind. Recent quantitative linguistic approaches have shown promise in obtaining corpus-level measures of dream sentiment and topic occurrence. However, it is currently unclear how the affective content of individual dreams relates to their semantic content and structure. Here, we combine word embedding, topic modeling, and network analysis to investigate this relationship. By applying Discourse Atom Topic Modeling (DATM) to the DreamBank corpus of >18K dream reports, we represent the latent themes arising within dreams as a sparse dictionary of topics and identify the affective associations of those topics. We show that variation in dream affect (valence and arousal) is associated with changes in topical content. By representing each dream report as a network of topics, we demonstrate that the affective content of dreams is also coupled to semantic structure. Specifically, positively valenced dreams exhibit more coherent, structured, and linear narratives, whilst negatively valenced dreams have more narrative loops and dominant topics. Additionally, topic networks of high arousal dreams are structurally dominated by few high arousal topics and incoherent topical connections, whereas low arousal dreams contain more loops. These findings suggest that affective processes are associated with both the content and structure of dreams. Our approach showcases the potential of integrating natural language processing and network analysis with psychology to elucidate the interplay of affect, cognition and narrative in dreams. Females are disproportionately affected by asthma. An increased understanding of how female sex hormones influence key pathophysiological processes that underpin asthma may identify new, more effective asthma therapies, particularly for females with severe, poorly controlled asthma. We assessed the effects of oral ethinylestradiol/levonorgestrel (representing OCP use) and depot-medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) and estradiol injections on key features of experimental asthma, and determined their effects on glucose transporter-1 (GLUT-1). The effects of OCP use on clinical asthma outcomes, and the relationships between estrogen receptors and type 2 (T2), non-T2, and GLUT-1 responses, in clinical asthma were also determined. OCP and DMPA reduce T2 responses, disease features, and lung expression of GLUT-1, whereas estradiol increases lung expression of GLUT-1, and results in severe, corticosteroid-insensitive, neutrophil-enriched disease, in experimental asthma. OCP use is associated with reduced T2 cytokine and GLUT-1 responses in clinical asthma. GLUT-1 expression is increased in sputum of severe asthmatics, and positively correlates with estrogen receptor expression and both T2 and non-T2 inflammatory responses. Significantly, OCP or GLUT-1 inhibition protects against obesity-associated or estradiol-induced, severe, experimental asthma, respectively. Together, these data show how female sex hormones and the OCP likely modulate asthma severity by modifying GLUT-1 responses in the airways. © 2025 The Authors

Background: There is uncertainty about the perioperative management of patients who are receiving a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) and require elective high-bleed-risk surgery, including those who are undergoing a neuraxial or deep peripheral nerve block procedure. Objectives: The objectives of this pilot trial were to provide preliminary data as to pre-operative residual DOAC levels with different management strategies andro assess the feasibility of a larger trial. Methods: The Perioperative Anticoagulant Use for Surgery Evaluation (PAUSE)-2 pilot trial was a proof-of-concept, open-label, randomized controlled trial that assessed the feasibility of comparing perioperative DOAC management using an American Society of Regional Anesthesia (ASRA)-based or PAUSE-based approach in patients with atrial fibrillation who needed an elective high-bleed-risk surgery/procedure and/or any neuraxial anesthesia/procedure. Results: There were 159 patients enrolled (86 on apixaban, 12 on dabigatran, and 61 on rivaroxaban), of whom 141 had preoperative DOAC-level testing done. The median (IQR) residual DOAC level was 19 (19-24) ng/mL in the ASRA group and 20 (19-24) ng/mL in the PAUSE group (standardized difference = −0.02). The percentage of patients in the ASRA and PAUSE groups with preoperative residual DOAC levels < 30 ng/mL was 95.6% and 94.4%, respectively;the percentage with residual DOAC levels of 30 to 50 ng/mL was 1.4% and 2.8%, respectively, and the percentage with levels > 50 ng/mL was 2.9% and 2.8%, respectively. Conclusion: In this pilot trial, we found that recruitment of DOAC-treated patients who needed an elective high-bleed-risk surgery or neuraxial procedure was feasible and that preoperative residual DOAC levels appeared similar according to ASRA-based and PAUSE-based management approaches, providing the foundation for a larger trial comparing ASRA- and PAUSE-based perioperative DOAC management. © 2025 International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis

This paper presents computer modeling, analysis and research of the hyper-chaotic Lorenz system based on programming interface that has been developed in LabView software environment. This study allows for generating and research of the main information properties of hyper-chaotic Lorenz system, focusing on time distribution of the four chaotic coordinates, phase portraits and Lyapunov exponents. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a collection of cardiovascular risk factors;however, the high prevalence and heterogeneity impede effective clinical management. We conducted unsupervised clustering on individuals from UK Biobank to reveal endotypes. Five MetS subgroups were identified: Cluster 1 (C1): non-descriptive, Cluster 2 (C2): hypertensive, Cluster 3 (C3): obese, Cluster 4 (C4): lipodystrophy-like, and Cluster 5 (C5): hyperglycemic. For all of the endotypes, we identified the corresponding cardiometabolic traits and their associations with clinical outcomes. Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) were conducted to identify associated genotypic traits. We then determined endotype-specific genotypic traits and constructed polygenic risk score (PRS) models specific to each endotype. GWAS of each MetS clusters revealed different genotypic traits. C1 GWAS revealed novel findings of TRIM63, MYBPC3, MYLPF, and RAPSN. Intriguingly, C1, C3, and C4 were associated with genes highly expressed in brain tissues. MetS clusters with comparable phenotypic and genotypic traits were identified in Taiwan Biobank. © 2024 Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Academia Sinica, Taiwan

As the Information Technologies and Communication (ITCs) are to be seen as an important resource in classrooms at all levels of learning, it is necessary to think about how to ensure that these ITCs meet the needs of diverse learners. In this article, we are introduced to the Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which was used to develop and to refine a digital didactic material based on a printed book used in more than 100 Brazilian schools. A case study was conducted in a classroom of the first grade of elementary school to verify the benefits and the difficulties in implementing such an approach. This research aims to help the user monitor their heart’s condition and notify other people in case of an emergency due to an abnormal heartbeat (normal heartbeat around 60-100 beats per minute). From the heart rate graph, the user could do a consultation with an expert in the nearest hospital using a map feature that will show the nearest hospital with a 1 KM radius from the user’s current location. The heart is undeniably an essential part of the human body system. The heart's missions are to pump blood to the lungs to expel the waste carbon dioxide that resulted from the respiration and pump blood that will deliver oxygen throughout the human body's circulation system. While the blood that carries oxygen being pumped throughout the human body, the heart will provide the oxygen to all cells. Body cells need to use oxygen to get the energy from food through a process called cellular respiration. Monitoring our heartbeat and pulse rate can increase people’s awareness about their heart’s health, motivating, and encouraging people to maintain a healthy eating plan and exercise. This research will be implemented ECG Sensor. The sensor will then send the data to the android application via HC-06 Bluetooth module. Monitoring the heart rate and analyzing the user’s heartbeat will be done in the android with a microcontroller device's help.

While several content management systems (CMS) and audience analytics tools are available for digital signage in the market, they are often sold separately and can be expensive. Therefore, this project aims to design a cost-effective and unified web-based solution for digital signage that combines content management and audience analytics functions, reducing the need for multiple purchases. This can be achieved by utilizing Raspberry Pi technology, known for its cost-effectiveness and versatility in integrations, along with a face recognition camera and machine learning methods. This proof of concept demonstrates the integration of these components to create a dynamic digital signage system. Overall, this project has the potential to offer an affordable solution for companies aiming to efficiently manage and optimize their digital marketing strategies, especially in the Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) Advertising space.

In this paper, for the first time, deep learning (DL) based artificial neural network (ANN) is applied to model the effects of various random variations: work function fluctuation, random dopant fluctuation, and interface trap fluctuation, on gate-all-around silicon nanosheet MOSFETs. The number of fluctuations for each source variation is used as input features and their effects on devices of interest are studied qualitatively and quantitatively. The key figures of merit (FoM) are also extracted accurately from the transfer characteristics, which shows the competency of the ANN model in the domain of device modeling. © 2022 IEEE.
