In this presented paper, an effort to improve the accuracy of the bathymetric model derived from optical satellite imagery is discussed. According to the previous study, the accuracy approximately measures in 2 m for depth up to 10 m by means of the Global Bathymetric Inversion Methods. Therefore, the improvement is done based on the so-called Cluster-Based Method applied to the analytical and log-ratio methods. The Cluster-Based Method partitions the working area on the by classifying the errors between the known depths and the predicted ones. The data for the known and predicted depths are acquired from the in-situ survey and the Sentinel-2 imagery. Improvement by one-third to the accuracy of the resulting bathymetry is obtained. © 2020 IEEE.

During the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,the Japanese government implemented several infection control measures,such as states of emergency(SoE)and school closures,and encouraged universal masking and hand *** activity restrictions and improved hygiene were found to be associated with declines in the incidence of infuenza during the 2019–2020 winter season[1].Prior studies have found that the incidence of seven pediatric infections,such as pharyngoconjunctivitis and varicella,decreased during and after the school closures in Japan[2].As activity restrictions continue to be lifted,there is growing concern that pediatric infections may suddenly return given that the pool of susceptible children increased during the pandemic[3].In this study,we use national infectious disease sentinel data from January 2012 to October 2021 to assess changes in the reported number of pediatric infections in Japan during the COVID-19 *** hypothesize that the reporting of many infectious diseases decreased during the early stages of the pandemic but ultimately returned to normal when activity restrictions were lifted.

In magnetic confinement fusion devices, the equilibrium configuration of a plasma is determined by the balance between the hydrostatic pressure in the fluid and the magnetic forces generated by an array of external coils and the plasma itself. The location of the plasma is not known a priori and must be obtained as the solution to a free boundary problem. The partial differential equation that determines the behavior of the combined magnetic field depends on a set of physical parameters (location of the coils, intensity of the electric currents going through them, magnetic permeability, etc.) that are subject to uncertainty and variability. The confinement region is in turn a function of these stochastic parameters as well. In this work, we consider variations on the current intensities running through the external coils as the dominant source of uncertainty. This leads to a parameter space of dimension equal to the number of coils in the reactor. With the aid of a surrogate function built on a sparse grid in parameter space, a Monte Carlo strategy is used to explore the effect that stochasticity in the parameters has on important features of the plasma boundary such as the location of the x-point, the strike points, and shaping attributes such as triangularity and elongation. This work presents experimental electrical characteristics and circuit prediction at cryogenic temperatures (down to 10 K) for three different kinds of germanium (Ge)-based FETs with advanced Fin/GAA structures. Among them, the layer transferred Ge-on-Insulator (GeOI) FinFET significantly improves its I-V characteristic during cryogenic measurements, such as a steeper subthreshold swing at 10K and a better I on . The developed GeOI fabrication method provides an effective way to eliminate the defects originating from misfit dislocations at the Ge/Si substrate during epitaxial growth, which would be treated as the key to device performance enhancement under 10 K. According to the measured IV at 10 K and circuit prediction, GeOI FinFETs with high Ge crystallinity are strong candidates for High-Performance-computing (HPC) applications.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are beneficial to society by providing access to quality courses at very affordable fees. Despite their popularity, the MOOC participation rate in Indonesia is still very low. In addition, little is known about the adoption of MOOCs in Indonesia. This study explored MOOC adoption in Indonesia by investigating attitudes, awareness and the experience of working adults in Indonesia with MOOCs. Data was collected from 85 respondents, with 31 respondents having some experience with MOOCs. It was found that although the respondents generally had positive attitudes towards MOOCs, many of them were not familiar with MOOCs. The respondents who were familiar with MOOCs mostly held professions in the information technology and education fields. Lastly, MOOC users highlighted time management and commitment as the two most important factors which determined successful participation in a MOOC. © 2019 Association for computing Machinery.

Randomizing hypergraphs preserving degree correlation and local clustering

Many complex systems involve direct interactions among more than two entities and can be represented by hypergraphs, in which hyperedges encode higher-order interactions among an arbitrary number of nodes. To analyze structures and dynamics of given hypergraphs, a solid practice is to compare them with those for randomized hypergraphs that preserve some specific properties of the original hypergraphs. In the present study, we propose a family of such reference models for hypergraphs, called the hyper dk-series, by extending the so-called dk-series for dyadic networks to the case of hypergraphs. The hyper dk-series preserves up to the individual node’s degree, node’s degree correlation, node’s redundancy coefficient, and/or the hyperedge’s size depending on the parameter values. Furthermore, we numerically find that higher-order hyper dk-series more accurately preserves the shortest path length and degree distribution of the one-mode projection of the original hypergraph, which the method does not intend to preserve. We also apply the hyper dk-series to numerical simulations of epidemic spreading and evolutionary game dynamics on empirical social hypergraphs. We find that the hyperedge’s size affects these dynamics more than any of the node’s properties and that the node’s degree correlation and redundancy in the empirical hypergraphs promote cooperation. This paper presents a novel system architecture that integrates blind source separation with joint beat and downbeat tracking in musical audio signals. The source separation module segregates the percussive and non-percussive components of the input signal, over which beat and downbeat tracking are performed separately and then the results are aggregated with a learnable fusion mechanism. This way, the system can adaptively determine how much the tracking result for an input signal should depend on the input's percussive or non-percussive components. Evaluation on four testing sets that feature different levels of presence of drum sounds shows that the new architecture consistently outperforms the widely-adopted baseline architecture that does not employ source separation. This work proposes a deep learning and GIS based workflow to assess the influence of highway barriers on wildlife collisions. Our work consists of using Convolutional Neural Networks to classify images extracted automatically from Google Street View to determine the type of barrier, and using geoprocessing tools to estimate parameters as barrier length and location. The method was applied in a real dataset, classifying correctly the barriers in the road-kill points with accuracy of 84.44%. Statistical tests were used to evaluate the influence of each type of barrier on the road-kills.

In this study, deep embedding of acoustic and articulatory features are combined for speaker identification. First, a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based universal background model (UBM) is constructed to generate acoustic feature (AC) embedding. In addition, as the articulatory features (AFs) represent some important phonological properties during speech production, a multilayer perceptron (MLP)-based AF embedding extraction model is also constructed for AF embedding extraction. The extracted AC and AF embeddings are concatenated as a combined feature vector for speaker identification using a fully-connected neural network. This proposed system was evaluated by three corpora consisting of King-ASR, LibriSpeech and SITW, and the experiments were conducted according to the properties of the datasets. We adopted all three corpora to evaluate the effect of AF embedding, and the results showed that combining AF embedding into the input feature vector improved the performance of speaker identification. The LibriSpeech corpus was used to evaluate the effect of the number of enrolled speakers. The proposed system achieved an EER of 7.80% outperforming the method based on x-vector with PLDA (8.25%). And we further evaluated the effect of signal mismatch using the SITW corpus. The proposed system achieved an EER of 25.19%, which outperformed the other baseline methods.
