The invasive deployment of digital technologies in power grids increases their exposure to cyber threats. In this paper, we study a type of load-altering cyberattack that targets peak shaving programs wherein a utility directly controls the loads of domestic electric water heaters. We consider a cyberattack scenario in which an adversary gains access to the advanced metering infrastructure and sends malicious activation commands to a large number of water heaters forcing them to simultaneously switch on in the midst of a peak shaving period, thus causing a sudden, large power demand that could lead to a system-wide blackout. We develop a simulation environment to simulate the loads of a population of electric water heaters under different operating conditions as well as under this type of cyberattack. Then, we propose a cybersecurity-by-design approach to mitigate the risk of such cyberattack. The efficacy of the proposed solution is analyzed using software experiments. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel integrated method for interactive characterization of fracture spacing in rock tunnel *** main procedure includes four steps:(1)Automatic extraction of fracture traces,(2)digitization of trace maps,(3)disconnection and grouping of traces,and(4)interactive measurement of fracture set spacing,total spacing,and surface rock quality designation(S-RQD)*** evaluate the performance of the proposed method,sample images were obtained by employing a photogrammetrybased scheme in tunnel *** were then conducted to determine the optimal parameter values(*** threshold,angle threshold,and number of fracture trace grouping)for characterizing rock fracture *** applying the identified optimal parameters involved in the model,the proposed method could lead to excellent qualitative results to a new tunnel *** perform a quantitative analysis,three methods(***,straightening,and the proposed method)were employed in the same study and comparisons were *** proposed method agrees well with the field measurement in terms of the maximum and average values of measured spacing ***,the proposed method has reasonably good accuracy and interactive advantage for estimating the ultimate fracture spacing and *** can be a possible extension of existing methods for fracture spacing characterization for two-dimensional(2D)rock tunnel faces.

Wi-Fi networks can face electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues due to bandwidth bottlenecks., various strategies were evolved to limit the bandwidth constraints while growing the throughput of Wi-Fi networks. These strategies vary from channel get admission to protocols, dynamic channel challenge schemes, and superior medium get entry to manage (MAC) protocols to radio resource management schemes (RRM) and active interference cancellation (AIC). Properly implementing those strategies can result in stepped-forward conversation overall performance and more advantageous network throughput. This paper presents a top-level view of the different strategies to reduce bandwidth bottlenecks in Wi-Fi networks, focusing on EMC. An analysis of the most enormous advocated techniques proposed for mitigating the clash between the electromagnetic environment and technological constraints is provided. In the long run, it's proposed that after being carried out synergistically, strategies such as channel get right of entry to protocols, dynamic channel allocation schemes, RRM, and AIC protocols can enhance the throughput of Wi-Fi networks while keeping electromagnetic compatibility. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a comprehensive framework for assessing the efficacy of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) in IoT retail applications. The framework integrates five key algorithms: Data Validation Algorithm (DVA), Consensus Mechanism Algorithm (CMA), Fraud Detection Algorithm (FDA), Privacy-Preserving Algorithm (PPA), and Dynamic Smart Contract Algorithm (DSCA). Each algorithm addresses specific challenges, ensuring data integrity, achieving consensus, preventing fraud, preserving privacy, and enhancing smart contract adaptability. The ablation study evaluates the individual contributions of each algorithm, highlighting their significance in the overall framework. DC Microgrids are rapidly developing, driven by the increasing integration of renewable sources and dynamic loads. Their growing adoption in critical applications raises the need for operational safety and reliability, particularly under fault conditions. This paper presents a sensor fault-tolerant control (FTC) for DC-DC power converters in DC Microgrids designed to maintain resilient and reliable operation. The proposed FTC leverages a single Switching Unknown Input Observer (SW-UIO) at the bottom control level to estimate arbitrary sensor faults with a high accuracy (0.3% fault estimation error), allowing a real-time identification and precise control reconfiguration to accommodate sensor faults with minimal computational burden. The approach is validated under diverse conditions, including time-varying loads, complete sensor failure, noise abnormality, and simultaneous faults/failure, achieving a consistent fault accommodation of 1μs from fault occurrence to compensation. Real-time simulation has been performed in the OPAL-RT environment to assess the efficacy and superiority of the proposed sensor fault tolerant strategy in comparison to reference FTC strategies. © 2013 IEEE.

Within the scope of prostate cancer diagnostic imaging, distinguishing lesions is challenging due to their subtle appearance and the prostate gland's complexity. This study employed the nnU-Net, a state-of-the-art medical image segmentation model, on a dataset of 301 patients from 2 openly available datasets to identify whether lesion sizes are affecting the model's performance. By applying t-SNE dimensionality reduction algorithm among dice score and respective lesion sizes, we found that nnU-Net behaves differently for lesions smaller than 9mm compared to lesions larger than 15mm. These insights can inform specialized training approaches for future deep learning models in prostate lesion *** Relevance: The main contributions of this study is, to investigate whether lesion sizes affects nnU-Net's deficiency leading to the development of more specialized models in respect to these factors. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper investigates the precise trajectory tracking of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV) capable of vertical take-off and landing(VTOL) subjected to external disturbances. For this reason, a robust higher-order-observer-based dynamic sliding mode controller(HOB-DSMC) is developed and optimized using the fractional-order firefly algorithm(FOFA). In the proposed scheme, the sliding surface is defined as a function of output variables, and the higher-order observer is utilized to estimate the unmeasured variables,which effectively alleviate the undesirable effects of the chattering phenomenon. A neighboring point close to the sliding surface is considered, and as the tracking error approaches this point, the second control is activated to reduce the control input. The stability analysis of the closed-loop system is studied based on Lyapunov stability theorem. For a better study of the proposed scheme, various trajectory tracking tests are provided, where accurate tracking and strong robustness can be simultaneously ensured. Comparative simulation results validate the proposed control strategy′s effectiveness and its superiorities over conventional sliding mode controller(SMC) and integral SMC approaches.

Video anomaly detection plays a significant role in intelligent surveillance systems. To enhance model’s anomaly recognition ability, previous works have typically involved RGB, optical flow, and text features. Recently, dynamic vision sensors (DVS) have emerged as a promising technology, which capture visual information as discrete events with a very high dynamic range and temporal resolution. It reduces data redundancy and enhances the capture capacity of moving objects compared to conventional camera. To introduce this rich dynamic information into the surveillance field, we created the first DVS video anomaly detection benchmark, namely UCF-Crime-DVS. To fully utilize this new data modality, a multi-scale spiking fusion network (MSF) is designed based on spiking neural networks (SNNs). This work explores the potential application of dynamic information from event data in video anomaly detection. Our experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework on UCF-Crime-DVS and its superior performance compared to other models, establishing a new baseline for SNN-based weakly supervised video anomaly detection. © 2025, CC BY-NC-SA.

In this paper, the problem of collaborative vehicle sensing is investigated. In the considered model, a set of cooperative vehicles provide sensing information to sensing request vehicles with limited sensing and communication resources. A base station (BS) determines the subset of sensing request vehicles that each cooperative vehicle will serve and the sub-regions that each cooperative vehicle will detect. We formulate an optimization problem aiming to maximize the number of successfully detected sub-regions of sensing request vehicles while satisfying the cooperative sensing energy requirement by jointly determining the cooperative vehicle association and the sensing sub-region selection. To solve this problem, we propose a graph attention based reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm that can generate the graph information vectors based on the correlation between each cooperative vehicle and each sensing request vehicle. Using the learned graph information, the joint cooperative vehicle association and sensing sub-region selection strategy will be determined. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the number of successfully detected sub-regions of sensing request vehicles by up to 12.5% compared to the conventional RL algorithm without using graph attention networks (GANs). © 2024 IEEE.
