In the human pose estimation task, on the one hand, 3-D pose always has difficulty in dividing different 2-D poses if the view is limited;on the other hand, it is hard to reduce the lifting ambiguity because of the lack of depth information, it is an important and challenging problem. Therefore, two-stage representation refinement based on the convex combination for 3-D human pose estimation is proposed, in which the two-stage method includes a dense-spatial-temporal convolutional network and a local-to-refine network. The former is applied to determine the features between each video frame;the latter is used to get the different scales of pose details. It aims to address the difficulty of estimating 3-D human pose from 2-D image sequences. In such a way, it can better use the relations between every frame in the sequence of the pose video to produce more accurate results. Finally, we combine the above network with a block called convex combination to help refine the 3-D pose location. We test the proposed approach on both Human3.6m and MPII datasets. The result confirms that our method can achieve better performance than improved CNN supervision, a simple yet effective baseline, and coarse-to-fine volumetric prediction. Besides, a robustness test experiment is carried out for the proposed method while the input is interrupted. The result verifies that our method shows better robustness. © 2024 IEEE.

GPU-Accelerated 3D Polygon Visibility Volumes for Synergistic Perception and Navigation

UAV missions often require specific geometric constraints to be satisfied between ground locations and the vehicle location. Such requirements are typical for contexts where line-of-sight must be maintained between the vehicle location and the ground control location and are also important in surveillance applications where the UAV wishes to be able to sense, e.g., with a camera sensor, a specific region within a complex geometric environment. This problem is further complicated when the ground location is generalized to a convex 2D polygonal region. This article describes the theory and implementation of a system which can quickly calculate the 3D volume that encloses all 3D coordinates from which a 2D convex planar region can be entirely viewed;referred to as a visibility volume. The proposed approach computes visibility volumes using a combination of depth map computation using GPU-acceleration and geometric boolean operations. Solutions to this problem require complex 3D geometric analysis techniques that must execute using arbitrary precision arithmetic on a collection of discontinuous and non-analytic surfaces. Post-processing steps incorporate navigational constraints to further restrict the enclosed coordinates to include both visibility and navigation constraints. Integration of sensing visibility constraints with navigational constraints yields a range of navigable space where a vehicle will satisfy both perceptual sensing and navigational needs of the mission. This algorithm then provides a synergistic perception and navigation sensitive solution yielding a volume of coordinates in 3D that satisfy both the mission path and sensing needs. Mobile Edge computing for Multi-Services Digital Twin-Enabled IoT Heterogeneous Networks

A scheme for edge computing-enabled offloading in a digital twin (DT) enabled heterogeneous network (HetNet) of multi-services IoT devices (IDs) is proposed. This scheme optimizes the association and handover of IDs, offloading ratio, and resource allocation considering the number of IDs, deadline requirements, and resource capacities. The objective is to enhance future generation networks by considering the ID movement, diverse ID requests, and network heterogeneity. We formulate the problem as Joint ID assOciatIon, offloadiNg ratio, Wireless bandwidth and computing reSource allocation, and digital twin placEment (JOINWISE), aiming to minimize the task completion time of all IDs while considering ID movement. Since JOINWISE is a mixed-integer nonlinear problem, we decompose it into two sub-problems: the ID Association (IDA) problem and the offloading Ratio, DT plAcement, bandwiDth and computing resource allOcation (RADIO) problem. IDA can be solved by mapping it to a multi-dimensional multiple knapsacks problem. Due to the non-convexity, high dimension of decision variables, and dynamic HetNet environment of RADIO, we propose a deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) based reinforcement learning method to iteratively solve the two sub-problems. Simulation results have confirmed the effectiveness of our proposed scheme in tackling the JOINWISE problem. © 2015 IEEE.

In the digital transformation era, Metaverse offers a fusion of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and web technologies to create immersive digital experiences. However, the evolution of the Metaverse is slowed down by the challenges of content creation, scalability, and dynamic user interaction. Our study investigates an integration of Mixture of Experts (MoE) models with Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) for mobile edge computing to revolutionize content creation and interaction in the Metaverse. Specifically, we harness an MoE model's ability to efficiently manage complex data and complex tasks by dynamically selecting the most relevant experts running various sub-models to enhance the capabilities of GAI. We then present a novel framework that improves video content generation quality and consistency, and demonstrate its application through case studies. Our findings underscore the efficacy of MoE and GAI integration to redefine virtual experiences by offering a scalable, efficient pathway to harvest the Metaverse's full potential. © 2024, CC BY.

Impedance responses and size-dependent resonances in topolectrical circuits via the method of images

Resonances in an electric circuit occur when capacitive and inductive components are present together. Such resonances appear in admittance measurements depending on the circuit's parameters and the driving AC frequency. In this study, we analyze the impedance characteristics of nontrivial topolectrical circuits such as one- and two-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger circuits and reveal that size-dependent anomalous impedance resonances inevitably arise in finite LC circuits. Through the method of images, we study how resonance modes in a multidimensional circuit array can be nontrivially modified by the reflection and interference of current from the structure and boundaries of the lattice. We derive analytic expressions for the impedance across two corner nodes of various lattice networks with homogeneous and heterogeneous circuit elements. We also derive the irregular dependency of the impedance resonance on the lattice size, and provide integral and dimensionally reduced expressions for the impedance in three dimensions and above.

Audio guides are commonly utilized to enrich the experience of art gallery visitors and to fully engage them with the artwork by providing background, contexts, and other information related to the corresponding artists. However, this method may be monotonous to the public and cannot automatically change to the appropriate recording when users move to the next artwork. The traditional operation of audio guides is only enabled by the user's visual recognition of the artwork to activate appropriate commentaries manually. In this paper, we explore the potential enhancement of the art gallery visitors' experience by applying Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, and computer vision techniques to recognize the artwork's main features automatically and provide the corresponding artist and other information to the visitors. We train a model using a Deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Kaggle's Painter by Numbers dataset, and host the trained model on a low-power AI accelerator equipped with a camera to recognize the artwork in real-time. The results are then transmitted to a database, which is utilized by a custom Android application on the smartphone to provide updated artworkrelated information on the display or by audio. Our system targets not only the general public for an interactive experience in the art gallery but also visually impaired people for proper guidance with the smartphone's camera and its voice feedback capabilities. © 2022 IEEE.

Emotion AI is a research domain that aims to understand human emotions from visual or textual data. However, existing methods often ignore the influence of cultural diversity on emotional interpretation. In this paper, we propose a multimodal deep learning model that integrates cultural awareness into emotion recognition. Our model uses images as the primary data source and comments from individuals across different regions as the secondary data source. Our results show that our model achieves robust performance across various scenarios. Our contribution is to introduce a novel fusion approach that bridges cultural gaps and fosters a more nuanced understanding of emotions. Due to the best of our knowledge, few works are using this approach, for Emotion AI, combining different types of data sources and models. We evaluate our model on the ArtELingo dataset, which contains image-comment pairs with Chinese, Arabic, and English annotations. The experimental results in the evaluation phase demonstrate an impressive 80% recognition accuracy for the model that merges image-text features.

The rising demand for reliable, high-bandwidth satellite communications in far-reach areas drives the integration of low earth orbit (LEO) satellites into future 6G networks. In this paper, we investigate the deployment of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) technology and rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) within LEO satellite systems to improve communication quality and system capacity. We derive closed-form expressions for outage probability (OP) and reliable throughput that validate the theoretical advantages of these technologies under various signal-to-noise ratio conditions. Numerical results demonstrate that, compared with traditional space division multiple access (SDMA) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) approaches, our RSMA and RIS-integrated framework significantly can reduce OP and enhance reliable throughput with an appropriate power-splitting factor, showcasing its superiority in RIS-enabled satellite communication scenarios.

This paper studies an indoor navigation guidance system for visually impaired people using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer vision techniques to guide users via optimal path based on quick response (QR) code markers and collision avoidance system supported by the monocular depth estimation algorithm. The proposed system utilizes a set of QR code markers, as location beacons, to generate an optimal path for the user to reach the destination. The identified QR code markers are used to correlate and compare information from the online database containing valuable information such as current location information, and the next possible locations from the current location. In addition, our system embraces a safety feature, a collision avoidance system, by utilizing the monocular depth estimation algorithm to identify obstacles in the path to the desired destination. All obtained information is provided to the user through a text-to-speech engine, where the system can direct the user to the optimal path via audio output. © 2022 IEEE.

—The increasing complexity and scale of modern telecommunications networks demand intelligent automation to enhance efficiency, adaptability, and resilience. Agentic AI has emerged as a key paradigm for intelligent communications and networking, enabling AI-driven agents to perceive, reason, decide, and act within dynamic networking environments. However, effective decision-making in telecom applications, such as network planning, management, and resource allocation, requires integrating retrieval mechanisms that support multi-hop reasoning, historical cross-referencing, and compliance with evolving 3GPP standards. This article presents a forward-looking perspective on generative information retrieval-inspired intelligent communications and networking, emphasizing the role of knowledge acquisition, processing, and retrieval in agentic AI for telecom systems. We first provide a comprehensive review of generative information retrieval strategies, including traditional retrieval, hybrid retrieval, semantic retrieval, knowledge-based retrieval, and agentic contextual retrieval. We then analyze their advantages, limitations, and suitability for various networking scenarios. Next, we present a survey about their applications in communications and networking. Additionally, we introduce an agentic contextual retrieval framework to enhance telecom-specific planning by integrating multi-source retrieval, structured reasoning, and self-reflective validation. Experimental results demonstrate that our framework significantly improves answer accuracy, explanation consistency, and retrieval efficiency compared to traditional and semantic retrieval methods.
