Innate Cyber-Immunity and Acquired Cyber-Immunity across Multi-Area Power Systems

Organisms have evolved innate and acquired immune systems to defend against pathogens like coronaviruses. Similarly, power networks, threatened by cyber-attacks, desire cyber-immunity. Inspired by the immunology research, this study develops a cyber-immune strategy-characterizing innate cyber-immunity and establishing acquired cyber-immunity-for any selected portion of a power network (termed as power subnetwork) against stealthy false data injection (FDI) cyberattacks. Therein, without extrinsic protection and information asymmetry, this paper for the first time confirms the existence and provides closed-form conditions for power subnetworks that are innately immune to FDI cyber-attacks despite all measurements being compromised. Single-leader-multi-follower bi-level optimization models are then developed to strategically allocate measurement protection, leading to the acquired cyber-immunity, whose conditions for existence and the least cost are explicitly formulated. More importantly, a bi-directional cyber-immunity propagation mechanism is presented to provide the optimal spatial allocation of defense resources across adjacent subnetworks. It also explicitly determines the temporal allocation sequence, revealing its sequential and cumulative impacts on establishing cyber-immunity. This is achieved by designing recursive traversal algorithms, one of which is modelled as a post-order depth-first-search problem of a multi-fork tree. The proposed subnetwork-specific cyber-immune strategy is verified in a modified Australian National Electricity Market. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

Due to the inherent flaws of BGP protocol, the security of inter domain routing system has been regularly threatened. Since it is difficult to achieve collaborative defense against existing resources and strategies of multiple autonomous systems, this paper designs and organizes them into autonomous system community. Within the community, a precomputing multi-link generation mechanism is proposed based on genetic algorithm. Before the inter domain routing system is attacked, the link set can be generated as complete as possible in advance. Once an attack occurs, the community will quickly select proper precomputing links to replace the failed ones, in order to ensure the stability of inter domain communication. The effectiveness of the mechanism has been proved in function and performance through simulation experiments. © 2022 IEEE.

This study presents a comprehensive study on smart home automation systems utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) sensor technology to achieve efficient energy conservation. The proposed system integrates ZigBee and WiFi communication protocols for effective and reliable connectivity across various smart devices within a home. Through the deployment of interconnected sensors and intelligent controllers, the system allows real-time monitoring and management of household energy usage, optimizing energy consumption and reducing waste. The combination of ZigBee for low-power, long-range sensor networks and WiFi for high-speed data transmission enables seamless interaction between smart appliances, lighting, heating, and cooling systems. Proposesd approach offers a scalable, cost-effective solution for enhancing home automation with an emphasis on energy conservation and sustainability. Also discussed the implementation, challenges, and future potential of IoT-based smart home systems for improved energy efficiency.

Outlier detection refers to the identification of anomalous samples that deviate significantly from the distribution of normal data and has been extensively studied and used in a variety of practical tasks. However, most unsupervised outlier detection methods are carefully designed to detect specified outliers, while real-world data may be entangled with different types of outliers. In this study, we propose a fuzzy rough sets-based multi-scale outlier detection method to identify various types of outliers. Specifically, a novel fuzzy rough sets-based method that integrates relative fuzzy granule density is first introduced to improve the capability of detecting local outliers. Then, a multi-scale view generation method based on granular-ball computing is proposed to collaboratively identify group outliers at different levels of granularity. Moreover, reliable outliers and inliers determined by the three-way decision are used to train a weighted support vector machine to further improve the performance of outlier detection. The proposed method innovatively transforms unsupervised outlier detection into a semi-supervised classification problem and for the first time explores the fuzzy rough sets-based outlier detection from the perspective of multi-scale granular balls, allowing for high adaptability to different types of outliers. Extensive experiments carried out on both artificial and UCI datasets demonstrate that the proposed outlier detection method significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods, improving the results by at least 8.48% in terms of the Area Under the ROC Curve (AUROC) index. We present a machine learning approach that uses a custom Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for estimating the depth of water pools from multispectral drone imagery. Using drones to obtain this information offers a cheaper, timely, and more accurate solution compared to alternative methods, such as manual inspection. This information, in turn, represents an asset to identify potential breeding sites of mosquito larvae, which grow only in shallow water pools. As a significant part of the world’s population is affected by mosquito-borne viral infections, including Dengue and Zika, identifying mosquito breeding sites is key to control their spread. Experiments with 5-band drone imagery show that our CNN-based approach is able to measure shallow water depths accurately up to a root mean square error of less than 0.5 cm, outperforming state-of-the-art Random Forest methods and empirical approaches.

The process of installing electrical cables physically in a specific location inside a library block is widely considered as an electrically equipped place. It involves planning the particular route, securing the cables and ensuring technical support and proper protection. In a library block, the process of installing electrical wires can provide power and electrical connectivity to various devices and systems. An insulation resistance tests were conducted a high voltage flow to the insulation and measures the resistance ratio to the actual current flow after cable installation. Testing of measurements given in table. Algorithms help to identify all kinds of weaknesses and faults in the insulation that could lead to any electrical leakages or short circuits. The insulation resistance test is primarily important to ensure the safety and reliability of electrical systems. It is particularly needed in an environment like a library. Libraries are filled with books made of papers that are easily flammable in nature. So, we should give top priority to electrical safety in libraries. Minimum constrained non-linear minimization solver is used to identify the iteration levels and verified with best function values and first order optimality values. This paper shows performance analysis of Insulation resistance test and Cable laying installation in a Library block.

Audio-visual active speaker detection (AV-ASD) aims to identify which visible face is speaking in a scene with one or more persons. Most existing AV-ASD methods prioritize capturing speech-lip correspondence. However, there is a noticeable gap in addressing the challenges from real-world AV-ASD scenarios. Due to the presence of low-quality noisy videos in such cases, AV-ASD systems without a selective listening ability are short of effectively filtering out disruptive voice components from mixed audio inputs. In this paper, we propose a Multi-modal Speaker Extraction-to-Detection framework named ‘MuSED’, which is pre-trained with audio-visual target speaker extraction to learn the denoising ability, then it is fine-tuned with the AV-ASD task. Meanwhile, to better capture the multi-modal information and deal with real-world problems such as missing modality, MuSED is modelled on the time domain directly and integrates the multi-modal plus-and-minus augmentation strategy. Our experiments demonstrate that MuSED substantially outperforms the state-of-the-art AV-ASD methods and achieves 95.6% mAP on the AVA-ActiveSpeaker dataset, 98.3% AP on the ASW dataset, and 97.9% F1 on the Columbia AV-ASD dataset, respectively. In order to meet the environmental targets, a large scale integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) has been taking place in power systems. Although those sources contribute to more clean energy and help to reduce the green house gasses emissions, they pose significant challenges to the system's stability due to the intermittency and the high level of dependence to the weather conditions. One of the main challenges is to sustain the system's balance and to guarantee the flexibility adequacy. For this purpose, the need for more comprehensive flexibility studies will increase in the future, since different scenarios should be examined according to various level of RESs, demand and weather conditions. In this work, we propose a novel approach for the unit commitment (UC) algorithm that is implemented in the conventional flexibility studies that aims to reduce the computational time and simultaneously sustain the results' accuracy in a satisfactory level. For this scope, we designed a nested-neural network system of two recurrent neural networks with long short-term memory, which are integrated and aim to reproduce the results of the complex conventional UC algorithm. Results show that the predicted insufficient ramping resource expectation of the two solutions are similar, while the computational time is being reduced by almost 99%. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

We present the implementation and validation of Sketch, an algorithm that uses two Unpiloted Aerial Systems (UASs) to trace the boundary of volcanic plumes. Sketchguarantees asymptotically optimal flight distance and turning by maintaining a sandwich invariant where one UAS stays inside the plume boundary (defined by a $\textbf{CO}_{2}$ concentration threshold) and the other UAS stays outside. The UASs adjust their flight paths based on real-time CO 2 measurements to maintain this invariant. This paper details the implementation of Sketchon a real-world UAS platform, the Dragonfly drone. We evaluate the efficacy of Sketchthrough extensive testing in physics-based simulations and real-world outdoor environments using virtual plumes. The algorithm is compared to a single-UAS baseline algorithm called Zigzag. Results show that Sketchmeets the expectations set by theory, and it is more efficient than Zigzag, achieving shorter flight paths, less turning, and faster mapping times. While Zigzagexhibits slightly higher accuracy in estimating plume area and boundary, Sketchoffers a more efficient real-time volcanic plume monitoring approach, especially in time-sensitive situations. These results demonstrate the feasibility and efficacy of Sketchfor real-time volcanic plume monitoring, paving the way for accurate $\textbf{CO}_2$ emission estimation in hazardous and challenging environments.
