Existing person re-identification methods have achieved remarkable advances in appearance-based identity association across homogeneous cameras, such as ground-ground matching. However, as a more practical scenario, aerial-ground person re-identification (AGPReID) among heterogeneous cameras has received minimal attention. To alleviate the disruption of discriminative identity representation by dramatic view discrepancy as the most significant challenge in AGPReID, the view-decoupled transformer (VDT) is proposed as a simple yet effective framework. Two major components are designed in VDT to decouple view-related and view-unrelated features, namely hierarchical subtractive separation and orthogonal loss, where the former separates these two features inside the VDT, and the latter constrains these two to be independent. In addition, we contribute a large-scale AGPReID dataset called CARGO, consisting of five/eight aerial/ground cameras, 5,000 identities, and 108,563 images. Experiments on two datasets show that VDT is a feasible and effective solution for AGPReID, surpassing the previous method on mAP/Rank1 by up to 5.0%/2.7% on CARGO and 3.7%/5.2% on AG-ReID, keeping the same magnitude of computational complexity. Digital and analog semantic communications (SemCom) face inherent limitations such as data security concerns in analog SemCom, as well as leveling-off and cliff-edge effects in digital SemCom. In order to overcome these challenges, we propose a novel SemCom framework and a corresponding system called HDA-DeepSC, which leverages a hybrid digitalanalog approach for multimedia transmission. This is achieved through the introduction of analog-digital allocation and fusion modules. To strike a balance between data rate and distortion, we design new loss functions that take into account long-distance dependencies in the semantic distortion constraint, essential information recovery in the channel distortion constraint, and optimal bit stream generation in the rate constraint. Additionally, we propose denoising diffusion-based signal detection techniques, which involve carefully designed variance schedules and sampling algorithms to refine transmitted signals. Through extensive numerical experiments, we will demonstrate that HDA-DeepSC exhibits robustness to channel variations and is capable of supporting various communication scenarios. Our proposed framework outperforms existing benchmarks in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio and multi-scale structural similarity, showcasing its superiority in semantic communication quality. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Severe collisions can result from aggressive driving and poor road conditions, emphasizing the need for effective monitoring to ensure safety. Smartphones, with their array of built-in sensors, offer a practical and affordable solution for road-sensing. However, the lack of reliable, standardized datasets has hindered progress in assessing road conditions and driving patterns. This study addresses this gap by introducing a comprehensive dataset derived from smartphone sensors, which surpasses existing datasets by incorporating a diverse range of sensors including accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, GPS, gravity, orientation, and uncalibrated sensors. These sensors capture extensive parameters such as acceleration force, gravitation, rotation rate, magnetic field strength, and vehicle speed, providing a detailed understanding of road conditions and driving behaviors. The dataset is designed to enhance road safety, infrastructure maintenance, traffic management, and urban planning. By making this dataset available to the community, the study aims to foster collaboration, inspire further research, and facilitate the development of innovative solutions in intelligent transportation systems. © 2024, CC BY.

The migration to low-carbon technologies in secondary (low-voltage) distribution networks relies on high integration of distributed energy resources (DER), including distributed generation and low-carbon loads. The electrification of power and transport sectors has led to an increased deployment of solar photovoltaic systems and electric vehicles causing unconventional dynamics in distribution networks. Thus, distribution network operators are facing new technical challenges such as reverse power flow, higher load peaks, and power quality issues. This has attracted research interest to investigate the implementation of innovative techniques such as non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) methods. These techniques contribute to an enhanced and scalable monitoring of DER in electrical networks. Current literature based NILM models have achieved significantly high performance for both electromobility and photovoltaic systems, which makes them eligible for deployment from a technical standpoint. However, a critical analysis of the considerations for a feasible implementation of these methodologies has not been covered. Thus, this work studies the techno-economic implications for the large-scale implementation of NILM methods at the customer level and low voltage side of distribution transformers. While a substantial investment is associated with a better monitored low voltage distribution network, there are multiple benefits related to technical, economic, social, and environmental aspects. © 2022 IEEE.

Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets) leverage multiple communication interfaces (e.g., Wi-Fi, cellular, Bluetooth) seamlessly integrated to enhance connectivity and capacity across diverse environments. These capabilities can be advantageous for covert communication, where the objective is to ensure undetectable transmission in the presence of an adversary. This work investigates optimal power allocation strategies for covert communication within HetNets under maximum power constraints. We propose a polynomial-time (m 2 ) algorithm for optimal link configuration by allocating power across multiple modes. Next, we address network-level covertness by allocating the end-to-end covertness constraint across links in a two-hop system that maximizes throughput. Leveraging the link configuration approach, we derive the optimal power allocation for each mode and link, ensuring the overall transmission remains undetectable. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing single-link and two-hop approaches, achieving higher efficiency and security in covert communication across HetNets.

By sharing the same hardware platform, spectral resource as well as transmit waveform, dual-functional radar-communication (DFRC) systems have been envisioned as a key technology for the future wireless networks. However, advanced signal processing algorithms for DFRC, which can achieve better performance, tradeoff or other design goals, often suffer from prohibitive computational complexity. This motivates us to design low-complexity joint radar sensing and communication beamforming algorithms in this paper, so as to achieve better energy efficiency, communication-sensing tradeoff, and so on. First, we formulate the problem of joint radar-communication beamforming based on symbol-level precoding (SLP) by incorporating constructive interference so as to improve the energy efficiency. To address the formulated problem, we tailor highly parallelizable iterative optimization algorithms that are shown to converge to stationary (or locally optimal) points. To achieve better performance, we propose efficient recursive optimizations that monotonically improve the performance metric of interest. Simulation results indicate that the proposed iterative algorithms outperform the previous approaches. Finally, to further reduce the complexity, we employ deep unfolding to design efficient learning-based algorithms. Besides parallelizability, the learning-based algorithms also enjoy appealing advantages of scalability in the number of served users, the number of transmit antennas and the length of the radar pulse. © 2007-2012 IEEE.

In recent years, prediction-based algorithms have attracted much attention for solving dynamic multi-objective optimization problems in the evolutionary computing community. However, this class of algorithms still has potential for further improvements by enhaneing the historical information extraction approach to balance convergence and diversity. In this paper, we propose a dynamic multi-objective optimization algorithm based on a recurrent neural network to balance the population’s convergence and diversity in dynamic environments. The recurrent neural network model in the proposed algorithm employs online learning in order to constantly improve according to the increasing evolutionary information. Meanwhile, differing from most existing prediction-based algorithms, the learning machine is not limited by assumptions, such as linear or nonlinear correlation, when it predicts new solutions for future evolutionary environments. Besides, an auxiliary strategy is performed, which adaptively introduces the random or mutated solutions according to the error losses between the prediction solutions and the optimal solutions in the whole optimization process. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is more effective for handling dynamic multi-objective optimization problems than several recent algorithms. IEEE

Inductive wireless power transfer (WPT) faces significant challenges in achieving high efficiency and stable output power for charging mobile devices like EVs. Using circular pads (CP) as the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) and a self-oscillating controlled inverter, this paper demonstrates a robust WPT system that maintains high constant transfer efficiency and output power in a defined region regardless of coupling coefficient variations without communication between Tx and Rx or control circuits for the receiver side. In contrast to couplers with non-identical Tx and Rx pads and multiple decoupled coils in the Rx pad, the compact CP-CP magnetic coupler with a single identical coil on the Tx and Rx is more robust at a wider transfer distance (air gap) and lateral and rotational misalignment between the Tx and Rx. The proposed 1-kW robust WPT system with up to a 20 cm air gap between the Tx and Rx and up to 12 cm lateral misalignment in all directions at a 15 cm air gap and all degrees of rotational misalignment can tolerate coupling variations and achieve constant output power with 93% constant transfer efficiency.
