Decision making framework for heterogeneous QoS information: an application to cloud service selection

In recent times, appropriate decision-making in challenging and critical situations has been very well supported by multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. The technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is the most widely used MCDM method for solving decision problems. However, it restricts decision-makers to use only one type of Quality of Service (QoS) information, and it suffers from the rank reversal problem. Restriction to only one type of QoS makes the decision problems more challenging, as it restricts the decision-makers freedom. Further, the rank reversal problem makes the decision result unreliable. To address these issues of TOPSIS, we have proposed a reliable rank reversal robust modular TOPSIS (RMo-TOPSIS). RMo-TOPSIS allows crisp, interval, fuzzy, intuitionistic and neutrosophic fuzzy QoS metrics. It does not suffer from the rank reversal problem. Cloud computing provides computing services on-demand basis without involving maintenance by its users. The availability of many cloud service providers and their services makes cloud service selection a challenging problem. To validate RMo-TOPSIS, we select the cloud service selection consisting of different types of QoS metrics as an application. Experiments on cloud service selection show consistency and accuracy in results obtained by RMo-TOPSIS and its robustness against rank reversal. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

The nonlinear filtering problem has enduringly been an active research topic in both academia and industry due to its ever-growing theoretical importance and practical *** main objective of nonlinear filtering is to infer the states of a nonlinear dynamical system of interest based on the available noisy measurements. In recent years, the advance of network communication technology has not only popularized the networked systems with apparent advantages in terms of installation,cost and maintenance, but also brought about a series of challenges to the design of nonlinear filtering algorithms, among which the communication constraint has been recognized as a dominating concern. In this context, a great number of investigations have been launched towards the networked nonlinear filtering problem with communication constraints, and many samplebased nonlinear filters have been developed to deal with the highly nonlinear and/or non-Gaussian scenarios. The aim of this paper is to provide a timely survey about the recent advances on the sample-based networked nonlinear filtering problem from the perspective of communication constraints. More specifically, we first review three important families of sample-based filtering methods known as the unscented Kalman filter, particle filter,and maximum correntropy filter. Then, the latest developments are surveyed with stress on the topics regarding incomplete/imperfect information, limited resources and cyber ***, several challenges and open problems are highlighted to shed some lights on the possible trends of future research in this realm.

Kidney failure is a silent chronic disease, without symptoms, and develops into an acute stage quickly. Unfortunately, the majority of patients discover this disease in its advanced stages where hemodialysis or transplant becomes a necessity. Predicting kidney failure will make controlling the progression of the disease possible and can even stabilize the state of patients. Data Analytics and data mining techniques, as well as machine learning proved a great success in information and knowledge discovery from medical big data to help decision making. Indeed, all the fields of the medical sector are paramount by the application of these technologies, given the useful knowledge extracted from collected data. Such knowledge will contribute to improve decision-making and save human lives. In this paper, we will present the big role of data mining technics in medical field in matters of predicting chronic diseases. Also we will show how these technics are very crucial to extract useful knowledge, and that by using linear regression model to predict glomerular filtration rate values (GFR) as the best indicator of kidney failure. The main purpose is to allow doctors to help patients, predict kidney failure and control this unwanted disease. © 2023 ACM.

Accurate forecasting of groundwater levels is crucial for sustainable water resource management and environmental planning. This article explores the use of machine learning for accurate groundwater level predictions. In this study three machine learning models including artificial neural network ANN, long-short term memory LSTM and Extreme Gradient Boosting decision tree XGBoost technique were used to predict ground water level. We incorporate deep water surface measurements and meteorological data as key parameters to enhance forecasting accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Agriculture consumes a significant proportion of water reserves in irrigated areas. Improving irrigation is becoming essential to reduce this high-water consumption by adapting supplies to crop needs and avoiding losses. This global issue has prompted many scientists to think about sustainable solutions using innovative technologies. This study aims to solve the problem of equitable distribution of irrigation water to crops using the PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm. The problem involves the allocation of water between N crops, taking into account the priorities of each crop, the minimum and maximum water thresholds required, and the total amount of water available. A precise modeling of the problem is proposed, followed by a description of the PSO algorithm adapted to this situation. The implementation of the algorithm in Python is also presented. The results and performance of the algorithm are discussed, showing its ability to find a fair and efficient solution for irrigation water allocation. © 2023 IEEE.

Gauze:enabling communication-friendly block synchronization with cuckoo filter

Block synchronization is an essential component of blockchain ***,blockchain systems tend to send all the transactions from one node to another for ***,such a method may lead to an extremely high network bandwidth overhead and significant transmission *** is crucial to speed up such a block synchronization process and save bandwidth consumption.A feasible solution is to reduce the amount of data transmission in the block synchronization process between any pair of ***,existing methods based on the Bloom filter or its variants still suffer from multiple roundtrips of communications and significant synchronization *** this paper,we propose a novel protocol named Gauze for fast block *** utilizes the Cuckoo filter(CF)to discern the transactions in the receiver’s mempool and the block to verify,providing an efficient solution to the problem of set reconciliation in the P2P(Peer-to-Peer Network)*** up to two rounds of exchanging and querying the CFs,the sending node can acknowledge whether the transactions in a block are contained by the receiver’s mempool or *** on this message,the sender only needs to transfer the missed transactions to the receiver,which speeds up the block synchronization and saves precious bandwidth *** evaluation results show that Gauze outperforms existing methods in terms of the average processing latency(about lower than Graphene)and the total synchronization space cost(about lower than Compact Blocks)in different scenarios.

Classical optimization and learning-based methods are the two reigning paradigms in deformable image registration. While optimization-based methods boast generalizability across modalities and robust performance, learning-based methods promise peak performance, incorporating weak supervision and amortized optimization. However, the exact conditions for either paradigm to perform well over the other are shrouded and not explicitly outlined in the existing literature. In this paper, we make an explicit correspondence between the mutual information of the distribution of per-pixel intensity and labels, and the performance of classical registration methods. This strong correlation hints to the fact that architectural designs in learning-based methods is unlikely to affect this correlation, and therefore, the performance of learning-based methods. This hypothesis is thoroughly validated with state-of-the-art classical and learning-based methods. However, learning-based methods with weak supervision can perform high-fidelity intensity and label registration, which is not possible with classical methods. Next, we show that this high-fidelity feature learning does not translate to invariance to domain shift, and learning-based methods are sensitive to such changes in the data distribution. We reassess and recalibrate performance expectations from classical and DLIR methods under access to label supervision, training time, and its generalization capabilities under minor domain shifts. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Regularized system identification has become the research frontier of system identification in the past *** related core subject is to study the convergence properties of various hyper-parameter estimators as the sample size goes to *** this paper,we consider one commonly used hyper-parameter estimator,the empirical Bayes(EB).Its convergence in distribution has been studied,and the explicit expression of the covariance matrix of its limiting distribution has been ***,what we are truly interested in are factors contained in the covariance matrix of the EB hyper-parameter estimator,and then,the convergence of its covariance matrix to that of its limiting distribution is *** general,the convergence in distribution of a sequence of random variables does not necessarily guarantee the convergence of its covariance ***,the derivation of such convergence is a necessary complement to our theoretical analysis about factors that influence the convergence properties of the EB hyper-parameter *** this paper,we consider the regularized finite impulse response(FIR)model estimation with deterministic inputs,and show that the covariance matrix of the EB hyper-parameter estimator converges to that of its limiting ***,we run numerical simulations to demonstrate the efficacy of ourtheoretical results.
