We study the strong dynamic input-output decoupling problem (SDIODP) for nonlinear systems. It is shown that, given a generically satisfied assumption, the solvability of the SDIODP around an equilibrium point is equivalent to the solvability of the same problem for the linearization of the system around this equilibrium point. We introduce the Singh compensator, a dynamic state feedback of minimal order that solves the SDIODP. It is shown that, given the assumption mentioned above, the linearization of the Singh compensator around an equilibrium point is a Singh compensator for the linearization of the original nonlinear system around this equilibrium point.

The authors have developed a signal-dependent representation which captures, with a few KL vectors and transform coefficients, the perceptually and phonetically important structure of the spectral envelope. Together with a mixed excitation strategy with some novel features, this representation has been applied to the analysis, synthesis and coding of speech with promising results in the 5-kb/s range.< >

A numerical study of a one-dimensional model of the high strain-rate torsion test shows that a moving boundary of rigid unloading, starting from the ends of the thin-walled tubular specimen, is a plausible mechanism for adiabatic shear band formation during the test. Even though the dimensionless thermal diffusivity parameter is very small, the moving boundary is due to heat transfer from the specimen through its ends, which are assumed to be isothermal heat sinks. The mathematical model is based on a physical model of thermoelastic-plastic flow and a phenomenological Arrhenius model for the plastic flow surface. The numerical technique used is the semi-discretization method of lines.
