Semi-directed networks are partially directed graphs that model evolution where the directed edges represent reticulate evolutionary events. We present an algorithm that reconstructs binary n-leaf semi-directed level-1 networks in O(n2) time from its quarnets (4-leaf subnetworks). Our method assumes we have direct access to all quarnets, yet uses only an asymptotically optimal number of O(n log n) quarnets. When the network is assumed to contain no triangles, our method instead relies only on four-cycle quarnets and the splits of the other quarnets. A variant of our algorithm works with quartets rather than quarnets and we show that it reconstructs most of a semi-directed level-1 network from an asymptotically optimal O(n log n) of the quartets it displays. Additionally, we provide an O(n3) time algorithm that reconstructs the tree-of-blobs of any binary n-leaf semi-directed network with unbounded level from O(n3) splits of its quarnets. © 2024, CC BY.

Cybersecurity is important in the field of information technology. One most recent pressing issue is information security. When we think of cybersecurity, the first thing that comes to mind is cyber-attacks, which are on the rise, such as Ransomware. Various governments and businesses take a variety of measures to combat cybercrime. People are still concerned about ransomware, despite numerous cybersecurity precautions. In ransomware, the attacker encrypts the victim's files/data and demands payment to unlock the data. Cybersecurity is a collection of tools, regulations, security guards, security ideas, guidelines, risk management, activities, training, insurance, best practices, and technology used to secure the cyber environment, organization, and user assets. This paper analyses ransomware attacks, techniques for dealing with these attacks, and future challenges. © 2022 IEEE.

Bridging Fairness Gaps: A (Conditional) Distance Covariance Perspective in Fairness Learning

We bridge fairness gaps from a statistical perspective by selectively utilizing either conditional distance covariance or distance covariance statistics as measures to assess the independence between predictions and sensitive attributes. We enhance fairness by incorporating sample (conditional) distance covariance as a manageable penalty term into the machine learning process. Additionally, we present the matrix form of empirical (conditional) distance covariance for parallel calculations to enhance computational efficiency. Theoretically, we provide a proof for the convergence between empirical and population (conditional) distance covariance, establishing necessary guarantees for batch computations. Through experiments conducted on a range of real-world datasets, we have demonstrated that our method effectively bridges the fairness gap in machine learning. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. SCADA systems are commonly used to track and manage utilities in vital national infrastructures including electricity generation and delivery, transportation networks, water supply and manufacturing, and manufacturing facilities. Cyber-attacks that threaten data privacy in SCADA networks, such as unauthorised misuse of sensor or control signals, may have a significant effect on the functioning of sensitive national infrastructure by causing device operators to make incorrect decisions, which could result in disastrous outcomes. Therefore, the cyber-security of SCADA systems has been an active topic of research for the past decades due to the potentially disastrous impact on the environment, public safety, and economy when these systems are breached or compromised. This paper examines the current security posture of SCADA systems from the perspective of data and cybersecurity and to propose recommendations for enhancing protection measures. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Cloud-Based E-learning is indeed the new paradigm shift in the information and communication technology. As much as the field is still in its infancy stage, various educational institutions have adopted the cloud-based E-learning around the world at all the levels of education. Cloud-based E-learning has shown significant progress and success among all the fields and subjects of education including language teaching, mathematics, science, engineering, and technology. Concisely, this paper is to show the instrument development that can evaluate the adoption of the cloud-based E-learning based on two vital learning aspects: the approach of systematic review and the interaction among the concerned and experts’ point of views. The practitioners in the field of education may find this instrument appealing because of its effectiveness of use. The purpose of this article is to develop multi-dimensional instrument that can be applied to measure the adoption factors for cloud-based E-learning perceived by HEIs, and to come up with a set of validated items. A systematic research design was implemented, multiple stage followed, six experts evaluated this instrument, piloting on 40 out of 100 respondents. Data collection triangulated by in-person interview, telephone interview, and questionnaire interview. Finally, empirically validation was done along with response bias. We suggest an algorithm which allows for generation of a moving adaptive mesh with a fixed topology according to the time-dependent control metric in the computational domain using a quasi-isometric mesh quality functional. For each time step, we use the preconditioned gradient search technique for the mesh quality functional in order to compute large displacements of each mesh vertex. Intermediate meshes interpolating between the initial and the displaced states are nonsingular deformations of the initial mesh and can be used for numerical simulations with small time steps, which greatly improves the efficiency of the remeshing algorithm. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Pneumonia is one infectious disease caused by viruses/bacteria, and early screening is necessary for the detection and treatment. Furthermore, pneumonia causes severe problems in children and elderly. The proposed work aims to develop a disease screening scheme for efficiently classifying the chest radiograph (X-ray) pictures into the Normal/Pneumonia group. The proposed process has the below phases;(i) Image collecting and resizing, (ii) Deep-feature extraction, (iii) Handcrafted feature extraction, (iv) Bat-Algorithm based feature selection and (v) Classification. In this work, the VGG16 scheme is considered to extract the deep-features and the necessary handcrafted features are mined using the Weighted Local Binary Pattern (WLBP). The necessary feature is then selected using the bat-algorithm supported feature selection. The experimental result of this study proves the accuracy of KNN is healthier (>98%) than other methods. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The infectious disease in humans is gradually rising for various reasons, and COVID19 is one of the recently discovered diseases caused by SARS-CoV-2. From early 2020, the infection due to COVID19 has gradually increased, and still, its infection exists. COVID19 will cause severe infection in the respiratory tract, and early detection and treatment are essential. The harshness of the infection needs to be examined before implementing the treatment. This research aims to build up and implement a suitable procedure to extract and assess the infected section in lung CT slices. This work extracts the infected section using the pre-trained VGG-UNet scheme. The separated section is validated against the ground-truth (GT) image, and the necessary presentation standards are calculated. The performance of the VGG-UNet is then compared and verified with the UNet and UNet+ schemes. The investigational product of this study authenticate that the effect reached with the proposed study confirms that the VGG-UNet provides better Jaccard, Dice and accuracy compared to UNet and UNet+. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Data augmentation, as a critical strategy in deep learning, well improves the sample diversity for network training, leading to the obvious improvement of model generalization ability. Besides, automatic data augmentation, while sparking in image tasks, has attracted too little attention in video recognition task. Therefore, this work explores a novel group random augmentation (GRA) that automatically augments video data for recognition. GRA first collects 21 augmentation transformations to enrich the sample diversity, and then divides these transformations into four groups (i.e., pixel-transform, rigidtransform, erasing-transform, environment-transform) to reduce the excessive regularization caused by similar augmentation. To reduce the computational cost of finding the optimal setting, GRA adopts the combination form to select the optimal situation. For frames in the same video clip, GRA uses synchronous GRA. Additionally, the proposed GRA can be integrated into any existing video frameworks. To prove the effectiveness of GRA, we conduct experiments on two commonly used video action recognition benchmarks (Something-Something V1 & V2) and three typical frameworks (TSM, GSM, and TEA), whose results demonstrate GRA can improve performance in all cases without adding additional computational cost. © 2022 IEEE.
