CONSEQUENCE VERIFICATION OF FLOWCHARTS

A methodology is presented for verifying logic programs. The methodology uses the consequence verification method, which shows that each statement of the program is a logical consequence of a set of axioms that constitute an intuitively correct characterization of the relations in the program. The verification of flowchart programs can be reduced to consequence verification of logic programs. A flowgraph program may be reformulated as a logic program by 2 methods: 1. a description in terms of the relations computed between the start node and each node of the flowgraph, and 2. a description in terms of the relations computed between each node and the halt node. Both definitions can be expressed in logic, and the resulting logic program can be subjected to consequence verification.

The aim of this paper is to address some of the wider issues relating to how CACSD systems should be designed in the future in order to more closely meet the needs of the control system designer. Through an analysis of the nature of the design activity, the various stages through which the designer must pass before arriving at a final design, and the need to interact with external influences during the design process, it is possible to identify a number of essential components for any CACSD system. The integration of these components, using their common structure and objectives, e.g., the need to both formally specify and to reason about the design, including proving the design to be correct, provides the basis of a design environment which contains two major related tools, a formal design language and a design knowledge base. The complete environment is provided by adding to these basic components a set of integrated tools to support the use of the CACSD system, taking account of the more general human factors aspects of interactive computing.

This paper evaluates the technical feasibility of integrating an offshore wind energy conversion system (WECS) into a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. The WECS is situated closer to the Brazilian mainland, requiring a 150 km long subsea umbilical cable for the integration with the FPSO unit. High voltage alternating current (HVAC) transmission is mandatory due to the substantial water depths, introducing challenges such as power losses and significant reactive capacitive current generated by the cable. This paper proposes a comprehensive approach to dealing with these challenges. Firstly, the umbilical cable section is sized based on ampacity and maximum current under short-circuit conditions. A power flow optimization is thus employed to determine the optimal transmission voltage that minimizes power losses. The optimization results define the reactive power that the back-to-back converter of the WECS must absorb based on the active power. This relationship is represented as a lookup table control, which ensures efficient operation by adjusting the reactive power reference in the WECS power control unit. Using this approach, the WECS back-to-back converter compensates for a portion of the reactive power generated by the umbilical, reducing the need for additional infrastructure such as shunt reactors or reactive compensation substations. Each component of the system is modeled, and a complete simulation is conducted using MATLAB/Simulink to validate the proposal. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in enhancing system efficiency while significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions during oil and gas exploration through the integration of WECS with FPSO units. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Seamless Graph Task Scheduling over Dynamic Vehicular Clouds: A Hybrid Methodology for Integrating Pilot and Instantaneous Decisions

Vehicular clouds (VCs) play a crucial role in the Internet-of-Vehicles (IoV) ecosystem by securing essential computing resources for a wide range of tasks. This paPertackles the intricacies of resource provisioning in dynamic VCs for computation-intensive tasks, represented by undirected graphs for parallel processing over multiple vehicles. We model the dynamics of VCs by considering multiple factors, including varying communication quality among vehicles, fluctuating computing capabilities of vehicles, uncertain contact duration among vehicles, and dynamic data exchange costs between vehicles. Our primary goal is to obtain feasible assignments between task components and nearby vehicles, called templates, in a timely manner with minimized task completion time and data exchange overhead. To achieve this, we propose a hybrid graph task scheduling (P-HTS) methodology that combines offline and online decision-making modes. For the offline mode, we introduce an approach called risk-aware pilot isomorphic subgraph searching (RA-PilotISS), which predicts feasible solutions for task scheduling in advance based on historical information. Then, for the online mode, we propose time-efficient instantaneous isomorphic subgraph searching (TE-InstaISS), serving as a backup approach for quickly identifying new optimal scheduling template when the one identified by RA-PilotISS becomes invalid due to changing conditions. Through comprehensive experiments, we demonstrate the superiority of our proposed hybrid mechanism compared to state-of-the-art methods in terms of various evaluative metrics, e.g., time efficiency such as the delay caused by seeking for possible templates and task completion time, as well as cost function, upon considering different VC scales and graph task topologies. The paper describes and critically assesses, in the light of recent advances, the sequential return difference method for the computer-aided design of linear multivariable control systems. In this method, a sequence of single-loop designs, using classical procedures, yields a multivariable design satisfying various criteria such as stability, disturbance attenuation, low interaction and integrity.

PCE-GAN: A Generative Adversarial Network for Point Cloud Attribute Quality Enhancement based on Optimal Transport

Point cloud compression significantly reduces data volume but sacrifices reconstruction quality, highlighting the need for advanced quality enhancement techniques. Most existing approaches focus primarily on point-to-point fidelity, often neglecting the importance of perceptual quality as interpreted by the human visual system. To address this issue, we propose a generative adversarial network for point cloud quality enhancement (PCE-GAN), grounded in optimal transport theory, with the goal of simultaneously optimizing both data fidelity and perceptual quality. The generator consists of a local feature extraction (LFE) unit, a global spatial correlation (GSC) unit and a feature squeeze unit. The LFE unit uses dynamic graph construction and a graph attention mechanism to efficiently extract local features, placing greater emphasis on points with severe distortion. The GSC unit uses the geometry information of neighboring patches to construct an extended local neighborhood and introduces a transformer-style structure to capture long-range global correlations. The discriminator computes the deviation between the probability distributions of the enhanced point cloud and the original point cloud, guiding the generator to achieve high quality reconstruction. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance. Specifically, when applying PCE-GAN to the latest geometry-based point cloud compression (G-PCC) test model, it achieves an average BD-rate of -19.2% compared with the PredLift coding configuration and -18.3% compared with the RAHT coding configuration. Subjective comparisons show a significant improvement in texture clarity and color transitions, revealing finer details and more natural color gradients. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. We present recent advances in the analysis of nonlinear equations with singular operators and nonlinear optimization problems with constraints given by singular mappings. The results are obtained within the framework of p-regularity theory, which has developed successfully over the last forty years. We illustrate the theory with its applications to degenerate problems in various areas of mathematics. In particular, we address the problem of describing the tangent cone to the solution set of nonlinear equations in a singular case. The structure of p-factor operators is used to propose optimality conditions and construct numerical methods for solving degenerate nonlinear equations and optimization problems. The methods presented in the paper can be considered as the first numerical approaches targeting solutions of degenerate problems, such as the Van der Pol differential equation, boundary-value problems with a small parameter, partial differential equations where Poincaré’s method of small parameter fails, nonlinear degenerate dynamical systems, and others. There are various practical applications for the theory of p-regularity, including structural engineering, composite materials, and material design. For instance, the theory can be applied to analyze the behavior of materials with irregular or complex properties. By considering higher-order derivatives, it becomes possible to model and predict the response of materials to external forces, such as stress or temperature variations. In geophysics, the p-regularity theory can be utilized to analyze and interpret complex data obtained from seismic surveys, gravity measurements, or electromagnetic surveys. The theory also finds applications in the analysis of nonlinear differential equations arising in control systems, geometric and topological analysis, biomechanics, and many other fields. The theory offers a valuable approach to analyzing and understanding nonlinear phenomena in situations where classical regularity

Learning from Heterogeneity: A Dynamic Learning Framework for Hypergraphs

Graph neural network (GNN) has gained increasing popularity in recent years owing to its capability and flexibility in modeling complex graph structure data. Among all graph learning methods, hypergraph learning is a technique for exploring the implicit higher-order correlations when training the embedding space of the graph. In this paper, we propose a hypergraph learning framework named Learning from Heterogeneity (LFH) that is capable of dynamic hyperedge construction and attentive embedding update utilizing the heterogeneity attributes of the graph. Specifically, in our framework, the high-quality features are first generated by the pairwise fusion strategy that utilizes explicit graph structure information when generating initial node embedding. Afterwards, a hypergraph is constructed through the dynamic grouping of implicit hyperedges, followed by the type-specific hypergraph learning process. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed framework, we conduct comprehensive experiments on several popular datasets with twelve state-of-the- art models on both node classification and link prediction tasks, which fall into categories of homogeneous pairwise graph learning, heterogeneous pairwise graph learning, and hypergraph learning. The experiment results demonstrate a significant performance gain (an average of 12.9% in node classification and 12.8% in link prediction) compared with recent state-of-the-art methods. © 2020 IEEE.
