Fused deposition modelling (FDM) 3D printing, as a supporting technology in social manufacturing and cloud manufacturing, is a rapidly growing technology in the era of industry 4.0. It produces objects with the layer-by-layer material accumulation technique. However, qualitative uncertainties are the common challenges yet. In order to assure print quality, studying the error causing parameters and minimizing their effects is important. This paper presents a feedback-based error compensation strategy, which integrates fuzzy inference system and grey wolf optimization algorithm. The objectives are twofold. First, the possible errors in FDM 3D printing are discussed in detail and optimal error causing parameters are obtained in percentage. This is used to understand the effects of the printing errors in every phase of the 3D printing process. From the nine optimization configuration trials used, Config-6 that has 100 number of iterations and 60 wolves is selected due to its higher convergence speed and best fitness value. The integral absolute error (IAE) is used as an objective function and the global minimum is achieved in the iteration interval [86, 100]. The outputs of this optimization problem is used to achieve the next objective. Second, a closed-loop quality monitoring approach comprising of inner-loops and an outer-loop is utilized. The three inner-loops are used to monitor the errors during pre-printing, printing, and post-printing, respectively. The outer-loop, on the other hand, is responsible for monitoring the aggregated errors in all the three 3D printing phases. The error compensation system simulation in Matlab is run for 10 seconds, and the results show that the "normal" range deformation factors are reached within less than 2 seconds for the inner-loops, whereas the outer-loop deformation factor is achieved within 7 seconds. Treatment of real stabilized landfill leachate (RSLL) is extremely challenging due to its complex mixture containing high levels of organic pollutants, that pose severe environmental problems. Biological treatment is often ineffective due to low biodegradability and high toxicity which limits its application. Effective pre-treatment is the ultimate choice to make the RSLL biodegradable for secondary anaerobic treatment. A combined physicochemical and advanced treatment process was employed to make RSLL treatment effective and economically viable. To the best of our knowledge, in this study, we for the first time utilized multi-metal coated Z5Å-Fe-Zn in catalytic ozonation to study the improvements in the biodegradability (BOD₅/COD ratios) of RSLL. To use RSLL for recycling, this study may be beneficial to achieve United Nations' sustainable development goals. Coagulation-flocculation (CF) with two coagulants [alum and ferrous sulfate (FS)] followed by catalytic ozonation with novel catalyst Z5Å-Fe-Zn were studied in two combinations. Combined treatment processes CF(Alum)–Z5Å-Fe-Zn/O₃ and CF(FS)–Z5Å-Fe-Zn/O₃ demonstrated higher performance achieving COD removal of 91 % and 88 %, and BOD₅ removal of 72 % and 68 %, respectively at optimized working parameters (pH = 8.3 ± 0.3;coagulant = 3 g/L;O₃ = 11 g/h;Z5Å-Fe-Zn = 6 g/L;mixing time-CF = 25 min;treatment time-CF(Alum)–Z5Å-Fe-Zn/O₃ = 55 min). Notably, biodegradability (BOD₅/COD ratios) increased significantly from 0.14 to 0.58. Therefore, treated RSLL could be easily biodegradable and recycled for energy generation in anaerobic processes and could achieve recycling standards, facilitating the practical applications of the studied process. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

To achieve secure quantum key distribution, all imperfections in the source unit must be incorporated in a security proof and measured in the lab. Here we perform a proof-of-principle demonstration of the experimental techniques for characterizing the source phase and intensity fluctuation in commercial quantum key distribution systems. When we apply the measured phase-fluctuation intervals to the security proof that takes into account fluctuations in the state preparation, it predicts a key distribution distance of over 100km of fiber. The measured intensity fluctuation intervals are, however, so large that the proof predicts zero key, indicating a source improvement may be needed. Our characterization methods pave the way for a future certification standard.

As a significant and basic robotic sub-topic, the problem of optimal MPC (motion planning & control) of ordinarily redundant manipulator widely exists in many fields, such as industry and daily-life applications. Following previous work, the aim of this paper is at solving the problem of velocity-level minimal joint motion planning & control (VLMJMPC) in a way of discrete time. Firstly, the VLMJMPC problem is introduced and analyzed using Zhang neural dynamics (ZND) method, and the motion scheme is then given. Secondly, by using ZND and Lagrange-multiplier methods, a continuous-time (CT) model for real-time solving the problem is established. In order to realize on digital computers, we use a ten-instant Zhang time discretization (abbreviated as ZTD) general formula with the fifth-order precision to discretize the model, and a special algorithm with high precision is derived, developed and analyzed. Finally, five discrete-time ZND (DTZND) algorithms are further acquired by adopting this ten-instant ZTD formula and other ZTD formulas, and the corresponding theoretical analyses are given. Computer experiment results numerically verify the online effectiveness and correctness of the developed five DTZND algorithms.

The Technical Committee of the CESEI (Spanish Chapter of the IEEE Education Society) is focused on the Innovation, Research and Development (I+R+D) of the education in engineering, mainly Electric and Computer engineering. As in other interdisciplinary fields, the I+R+D involves several sources of information and different stakeholders, each one with its own focus and purpose. As a result, sometimes it may be complex for practitioners and researchers to identify the more appropriate entities for their interests. This paper shows how the CESEI Technical Committee tries to solve this difficulty by providing updated information regarding the main publications (journals), events (conferences) and awards to the best academic works. The paper focuses special attention on the activities held during 2020–2021.

Plain proofs (e.g., raw logs, report, etc.) are significant and effective for integrity verification. In our analysis and comparison of existing work, we found most of them did not employ any protection mechanisms on the proofs. However, these proofs contain sensitive information, which may cause privacy leakage risks when the third party verifier (TPV) is compromised. The situation is even worse when the verification objects are cloud components. Motivated by this, we present StateConsisIV, a privacy-preserving integrity verification method based on a novel state consistency feature to address the privacy leakage problem. The core idea of our work is to enable the integrity judgment through encrypted proofs, withholding plain proofs inside the cloud only to reduce attack surface and enhance privacy. In specific, we employ random transformation algorithm on cloud nodes to encrypt proofs on their birth places. Besides, we design a novel state consistency feature based on the deployment and operation pattern of structural cloud components and perform feature analysis on TPV to guarantee an accurate integrity judgment result. We evaluate our approach on one typical dataset. The experimental results show that our method is considered more worthy with a little bit of extra computation overhead.

The data used in this study is collected using EEG and the movements are extracted from a stroke subject. In this research, a stroke patient’s brainwave activity with left and right hand movements is used. A statistical feature based system for hand movement classification by using electroencephalogram (EEG) is proposed in this paper. The mean, variance, and standard deviation of the beta band of the stroke patients are used as the input of the classification of hand movement. This work aims to recognize and classify hand movement activities using statistical features. The classification algorithm used in this work is the Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The accuracy value will be obtained from the subject using 10 hidden nodes. Based on the results, the combination of mean with standard deviation and variance with standard deviation yield the highest accuracy value of 78% while the combination of all feature components resulting only 72% accuracy.

3D object detection has become a hot topic in intelligent vehicle applications in recent years. Generally, deep learning has been the primary framework used in 3D object detection, and regression of the object location and classification of the objectness are the two indispensable components. In the process of training, the ℓ n (n=1,2) and the focal loss are considered as the frequent solutions to minimize the regression and classification loss, respectively. However, there are two problems to be solved in the existing methods. For regression component, there is a gap between evaluation metrics, e.g., 3D Intersection over Union (IoU), and the traditional regression loss. As for the classification component, confidence score exists ambiguous due to the binary label assignment of target. To solve these problems, we propose a loss by jointing 3D IoU and other geometric attributes (named as jointed attribute-oriented 3D loss), which can be directly used in optimizing the regression component. In addition, the jointed attribute-oriented 3D loss can assign a soft label for supervising the training of the classification. By incorporating the proposed loss function into several state-of-the-art 3D object detection methods, the significant performance improvement has been achieved on the KITTI benchmark.

With the rapid development of computer technology, the scale of graph increases explosively and large-scale graph computing has been the focus in recent years. Breadth-First Search (BFS) is one of the most important kernels in graph computing. It is the main kernel of the Graph500 benchmark that evaluates the performance of supercomputers and servers in terms of data-intensive applications. In this paper, we implement a highly efficient parallel BFS on CPU-based single-node systems. We propose two algorithm optimization techniques: round-robin vertex shuffle and jumping access. The former can improve the load balance for parallel implementation, while the latter can reduce unnecessary data accesses in the bottom-up algorithm. Our new implementation demonstrates strong scalability and achieves 65.2 GTEPS for Kronecker graph with 2 30 vertices and 2 34 edges on a 4-way Xeon server. The speedup is nearly 12.8 times faster than the original direction-optimizing algorithm. In terms of energy efficiency, the result on our self-designed ARM server is 254.6 MTEPS/W and is superior to conventional x86 server. To our best knowledge, this is the first work that evaluates BFS performance on ARM server and ARM server is suitable for data-intensive applications such as large-scale graph processing. © 2019 IEEE.

Formal modelling of list based dynamic memory allocators

Existing implementations of dynamic memory allocators(DMA) employ a large spectrum of policies and techniques. The formal specifications of these techniques are quite complicated in isolation and very complex when combined. Therefore, the formal reasoning on a specific DMA implementation is difficult for automatic tools and mostly single-use. This paper proposes a solution to this problem by providing formal models for a full class of DMA, the class using various kinds of lists to manage the memory blocks controlled by the DMA. To obtain reusable formal models and tractable formal reasoning, we organise these models in a hierarchy ranked by refinement relations. We prove the soundness of models and the refinement relations using the modeling framework Event-B and the theorem prover Rodin. We demonstrate that our hierarchy is a basis for an algorithm theory for list based DMA: it abstracts various existing implementations of DMA and leads to new DMA implementations. The applications of this formalisation include model-based code generation, testing, and static analysis.
