TopHat is a fast splice junction mapper for Next Generation Sequencing analysis, a technology for functional genomic research. Next Generation Sequencing technology allows more accurate analysis increasing data to elaborate, this opens to new challenges in terms of development of tools and computational infrastructures. We present a solution that cover aspects both software and hardware, the first one, after a reverse engineering phase, provides an improvement of algorithm of TopHat making it parallelizable, the second aspect is an implementation of an hybrid infrastructure: grid and virtual grid computing. Moreover the system allows to have a multi sample environment and is able to process automatically totally transparent to user.

This paper presents a nanorobotic approach facilitating the transfer and characterization of individual graphene flakes that are grown by different fabrication techniques. The approach makes use of a nanorobotic atomic force microscope system that is integrated into a high resolution scanning electron microscope and focused ion beam device. This combination is used to perform both, the nanorobotic transfer and the mechanical characterization of the graphene flake allowing to systematically analyze different sample areas and to optimize the fabrication processes. Furthermore, the nanorobotic system enables the reliable pick-and-place handling and processing of graphene flakes to realize more comprehensive analysis steps or even the prototyping of graphene-based devices.

To investigate the influences of performance management rules on human behavior in a chemical plant workshop, we construct an artificial workshop. It mainly contains human behavior model, workshop environment model including the definition of work position performance management rules and production events, and their interaction rules. The human behavior model is built based on DISC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Compliance) behavior model and the Agent technology. A platform for workshop human behavior computing is finally created for computational experiments on performance management and decision-making. The platform can be used as a support for refined management in the chemical plant. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper is concerned with analyzing a novel model transformation of discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with time-varying delays and applying it to dynamic output feedback (DOF) controller design. A new auxiliary model is proposed by employing a new approximation for time-varying delay state, and then delay partitioning method is used to analyze the scaled small gain of this auxiliary model. A sufficient condition on discrete-time T-S fuzzy systems with time-varying delays, which guarantees the corresponding closed-loop system to be asymptotically stable and has an induced ℓ 2 disturbance attenuation performance, is derived by employing the scaled small gain theorem. Then the solvability condition for the induced ℓ 2 DOF control is also established, by which the DOF controller can be found by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).

This note generalizes the stability analysis for a high frequency networked control system. The high-frequency networked control system is described by a delta operator system with a high frequency constraint. Stability conditions are given for the high frequency delta operator system. Furthermore, by developing the generalized Kalman-Yakubovic-Popov lemma, improved stability conditions are also presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Some experiment results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed techniques.

Although the Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks (WSANs) have many advantages than the wired networks, the nature of sharing wireless media and the complicated behavior of Media Access control (MAC) introduce adverse impacts on the control system. In contrast to most work on networked control systems using simplified models of network induced delays, this paper considers the study the random access delay caused by a contention-based MAC scheme slotted ALOHA in WSANs. An improved fault detection observer with access delay compensation is proposed to improve the fault detection performance against the MAC delays. © 2012 IEEE.

Currently, the research issues are becoming increasingly global and complex. This paper focuses on the H ∞ filtering problem for a class of discrete-time systems with stochastic incomplete measurement and mixed random delays. A more realistic and accurate measurement mode is proposed to compensate for the negative influence of both missing data and different time delays in a random way. In the system, all of the stochastic variables are mutually independent but satisfy the Bernoulli binary distribution. In particular, the stochastic infinite distributed delays are introduced in the discrete-time domain. Sufficient conditions for the existence of the admissible filter are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which ensures the asymptotic stability as well as a prescribed H ∞ performance for the filter errors. A simulation example is exploited to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design procedures.

This paper investigates typical behaviors like damped oscillations in fractional order (FO) dynamical systems. Such response occurs due to the presence of, what is conceived as, pseudo-damping and meta-damping in some special class of FO systems. Here, approximation of such damped oscillation in FO systems with the conventional notion of integer order damping and time constant has been carried out using Genetic Algorithm (GA). Next, a multilayer feed-forward Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been trained using the GA based results to predict the optimal pseudo and meta-damping from knowledge of the maximum order or number of terms in the FO dynamical system. © 2012 Pillay engineering College.

This study aimed to test a protocol of measurements based on Biophotogrammetry to Analysis of Respiratory Mechanics (BARM) in healthy children. Seventeen normal spirometric children (six male and 11 female) were tested. Their performed maneuvers of forced inspiratory vital capacity were recorded in the supine position. The images were acquired by a digital camera, laterally placed to the trunk. Surface markers allowed that the files, exported to CorelDraw® software, were processed by irregular trapezoids paths. Compartments were defined in the thoracic (TX), abdominal (AB) and the chest wall (CW). They were defined at the end of an inspiration and expiration, both maximum, controlled by a digital spirometer.
