The Determination of Microbicidal Effects of Corona Discharge Using the Image Analysis

This paper presents an experimental apparatus for the decontamination and sterilization of water suspension of microorganisms and demonstrates the application of image analysis for the evaluation of decontamination efficiency by automatic counting of colonies on surface of cultivating medium. It was shown that the presented procedure of image analysis is adequate for this problem. The error of the automated cfu counting procedure is less than 5% in the comparison with manual counting. From the microbiological point of view it was found, that total inhibition of all four bacterial species and one of yeast occurs after 3 and 6 minutes of exposition to the corona discharge. Total inhibition of mould spores occurs after 20 minutes for one of used species only but it does not occurs even after 30 minutes of exposition for next two species under study.

The need of continuous blood pressure measurement is usable in wide spectrum of applications from physicians practice to home care applications. Many types of blood pressure measurement devices can be bought in electronics shops. All such devices are contact measurement devices which need to be in contact of human body (hand or foot mainly). Secondary they allow only one measurement per several minutes interval (typically ones in 10 minutes). Our goal is to develop a small device for noninvasive continuous measurement of blood pressure. This device must be a small battery powered embedded system which measure a blood pressure during a long time period and send this information remotely to operator's stations. We would like to try two systems of blood pressure monitoring. The first one is system with NIR CCD camera (Near Infra Red), which measure the wide changes of the blood vessels and the second one is system, which measure the pulse transmit time (PTT). At the end we can compare the systems and get information, which system will be a right way to obtain exact continuous blood pressure information.

Most systems are controlling by common PID controllers. These PID controllers are available in variety possibilities. They are divided by types of controlling systems, by speed of action interference, by complexity, by robustness etc. Most of industrial controllers are very expensive and except of some basic setting they are not offering any other way, how to involve into controlling process. On the other side, developing new analog controller to control simple systems is not reasonable in financial or time issue. That's why we decided to build simple, discrete controller and implement its algorithm into single chip eight bit microcontroller (MCU). This discrete controller - PSD - is characteristic its simplicity and variability. It can control plenty of less complicated systems by a mere change of its characteristic parameters. Thanks to modern approach is possible to create a full-featured controller including power action element on an area equal to 7cm 2 .

Existing time synchronization algorithms and protocols mostly focus on improving the synchronization accuracy. However, they usually require frequent resynchronization to keep designed precision in actual applications, which leads to high energy consumption and heavy traffic load. This paper presents a Prediction based Long-cycle Time Synchronization algorithm (PLTS), which puts emphasis on reducing the resynchronization frequency while guaranteeing a given accuracy. PLTS is a combination of periodic synchronization and prediction synchronization. It makes use of an existing time synchronization protocol to accomplish the periodic synchronization, while during the intervals of periodic synchronization, each node applies a prediction model to calibrate its own logic time according to the crystal oscillator's frequency characteristics. By this means, all nodes can keep synchronization till next periodic synchronization starts. Experiment results show that PLTS can reduce resynchronization frequency remarkably and possesses good merits in saving energy and reducing traffic load.

This paper presents a mechanism for wheelchair transformation from two-wheeled upright position to four-wheeled position using a modular fuzzy logic control (MFC) approach. A wheelchair model that can be operated in four-wheeled and two-wheeled modes has been developed within the Visual Nastran environment and integrated with Simulink for control purposes. A multi-input multi-output modular fuzzy logic control configuration is designed and implemented on the wheelchair model. To improve the system performance, an input shaping technique is augmented inside the feedback loop. It is shown that the shaped signals have improved the system performance with promising results.

Inspired by the growth of dendritic trees in biological neurons, we introduce spiking neural P systems with budding rules. By applying these rules in a maximally parallel way, a spiking neural P system can exponentially increase the size of its synapse graph in a polynomial number of computation steps. Such a possibility can be exploited to efficiently solve computationally difficult problems in deterministic polynomial time, as it is shown in this paper for the NP-complete decision problem sat. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

The social network analysis (SNA) is an approach that can be applied as a complement to other analysis (such as statistical) in order to obtain other valuable information. The social network analysis has been used in several initiatives showing that it is an approach that can contribute in building the semantic web. Within the project Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching (TAEE) there are biannual conferences (it has been organized since 1996) and have accumulated a significant amount of data resulting from the conferences held. All of this information constitutes a data source that should be exploited and that can provide meaningful information. In this document we describe, how to social network analysis has been used on data sources generated by user communities, in order to obtain some semantic artifacts, like ontologies. Also describes how to was applied the social network analysis and its metrics on the information generated in the TAEE congresses to answer a set of questions (What are the relationships and the level of cohesion of the different organizations (at the level of Spain and across continents) involved in TAEE? How have evolutioned the thematics covered in the conference?, What are the new ontological additions in technology over the years?, and How have evolutioned the thematics in the research and studies related to teaching electronics?) formulated by the organizers of the congresses and that through other approaches would have been a large task and complicated. The answers to the questions can provide us important information about the behavior and characteristics of the elements present in TAEE conferences, furthermore being an element for making decisions on future initiatives with the same style of TAEE. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper is devoted to design adaptive sliding-mode controllers for the Takagi-Sugeno (T--S) fuzzy system with mismatched uncertainties and exogenous disturbances. The uncertainties in state matrices are mismatched and norm-bounded, while the exogenous disturbances are assumed to be bounded with an unknown bound, which is estimated by a simple and effective adaptive approach. Both state- and static-output-feedback sliding-mode-control problems are considered. In terms of linear-matrix inequalities (LMIs), both sliding surfaces and sliding-mode controllers can be easily obtained via a convex optimization technique. Finally, two simulation examples and a real experiment are utilized to illustrate the applicability and effectiveness of the design procedures proposed in this paper.

In this paper, the robust finite-horizon filtering problem is investigated for a class of uncertain nonlinear discrete time-varying stochastic systems with multiple missing measurements and error variance constraints. The stochastic nonlinearities are described by statistical means which can cover several classes of well-studied nonlinearities. The measurement missing phenomenon is also considered. Sufficient conditions are derived for a finite-horizon filter to satisfy the estimation error variance constraints. These conditions are expressed in terms of the feasibility of a series of recursive linear matrix inequalities (RLMIs). An illustrative simulation example is given to show the the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, a robust adaptive sliding mode controller is presented for delta operator systems with mismatched uncertainties and exogenous disturbances. The parameters of the delta operator system are taken for norm-bounded uncertainties. The exogenous disturbance is also assumed to be bounded. After the statement of a sufficient condition for the existence of linear sliding surface based on linear matrix inequality technique, a robust reaching motion control method for delta operator systems is presented. Afterwards, an adaptive sliding mode controller for delta operator systems is designed. A bridge between the robust adaptive sliding mode control and the delta operator system framework is made. Numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed techniques. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
