Currently, modular multilevel converter-based flexible direct current transmission technology (MMC-HVDC) is the prevalent method for connecting long-distance offshore wind farms (OWF) to large power grid systems. Due to unique meteorological conditions at sea and the utilization of substantial wind turbines, offshore doubly-fed wind turbines possess a higher axial elastic coefficient compared to their onshore counterparts. When linked to the grid via MMC-HVDC, two types of sub-synchronous oscillations oc-cur: natural torsional vibrations within the wind turbine shafting and sub-synchronous oscillations resulting from interactions between the wind turbine and devices in the MMC-HVDC converter control system. To address these issues, a MMC-HVDC grid connection model for offshore long-distance doubly-fed wind farms has been developed. A cloud computing platform-based wind farm data acquisition system is employed for remote wind turbine data collection. Eigenvalue analysis and participation factors are utilized to determine oscillation modes and corresponding strongly correlated state variables arising from interactions between wind turbine shaft torsional vibration and converter devices. Upon identifying the correlations of state variables, a suppression strategy involving a circulating current suppression DC control collaborative virtual resistance controller is proposed to mitigate sub-synchronous oscillations. The efficacy of the suggested suppression approach is validated using PSCAD/EMTDC electromagnetic transient simulation software. © 2024, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. All rights reserved.

Cellular traffic prediction is crucial to the network efficiency as it provides prior knowledge to guide the wireless resource allocation. The artificial intelligence (AI) based traffic prediction can provide better prediction performance and has drawn increasing interests. Nevertheless, most existing works utilized Euclidean structure data, which can provide traffic prediction to only certain grid area rather than specific spot, such as each base station (BS). To give more precise BS level prediction, in this work we propose a dual-scale spatiotemporal prediction framework based on fast dynamic time warping (FastDTW) algorithm. The proposed framework can capture both the overall neighborhood relationship of historical traffic and the local neighborhood relationship graph to improve the prediction accuracy. More importantly, due to the utilization of FastDTW, it solves the disadvantage of the high complexity of the dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm and completes the prediction at the BS level more efficiently. Simulation results confirms the generality and performance of the proposed method, which outperforms the benchmark algorithms. © 2024 IEEE.

Vehicular edge computing (VEC) enables vehicles to offload their tasks to idle vehicles for processing. To process tasks, the needed service model should be stored ahead. Considering the storage of vehicles is limited and downloading the service model upon tasks causes repeated data transmission, it is necessary to determine which service models should be cached and which tasks should be offloaded. For vehicles, the task completion time is crucial due to their mobility nature. Therefore, balancing the completion time and energy consumption for vehicles with limited battery capacity in highly dynamic system remains a significant challenge. To address this, we jointly designed task offloading and service caching scheme to minimize the tasks completion time in a cache-assisted VEC scenario while satisfying the long-term average energy constraints. We adopt Lyapunov optimization and Deep reinforcement learning (D RL) based Task offloading and Service caching (LDTS) to solve the proposed problem. Specifically, the Lyapunov optimization is used to tackle the issues of long-term energy consumption constraints by transforming the original problem into per-slot optimization problems that can be resolved using a model-free DRL method. Simulation results demonstrate that the LDTS method can minimize the completion time while satisfying the constraints of the long-term energy consumption budget. The results indicate that the LDTS method outperforms other benchmark methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Federated Learning (FL) methods often struggle in highly statistically heterogeneous settings. Indeed, non-IID data distributions cause client drift and biased local solutions, particularly pronounced in the final classification layer, negatively impacting convergence speed and accuracy. To address this issue, we introduce Federated Recursive Ridge Regression (FED3R). Our method fits a Ridge Regression classifier computed in closed form leveraging pre-trained features. FED3R is immune to statistical heterogeneity and is invariant to the sampling order of the clients. Therefore, it proves particularly effective in cross-device scenarios. Furthermore, it is fast and efficient in terms of communication and computation costs, requiring up to two orders of magnitude fewer resources than the competitors. Finally, we propose to leverage the FED3R parameters as an initialization for a softmax classifier and subsequently fine-tune the model using any FL algorithm (FED3R with Fine-Tuning, FED3R+FT). Our findings also indicate that maintaining a fixed classifier aids in stabilizing the training and learning more discriminative features in cross-device settings. Official website: https://***/.

OAFuser: Toward Omni-Aperture Fusion for Light Field Semantic Segmentation

Light field cameras are capable of capturing intricate angular and spatial details. This allows for acquiring complex light patterns and details from multiple angles, significantly enhancing the precision of image semantic segmentation. However, two significant issues arise: 1) The extensive angular information of light field cameras contains a large amount of redundant data, which is overwhelming for the limited hardware resources of intelligent agents. 2) A relative displacement difference exists in the data collected by different microlenses. To address these issues, we propose an omni-aperture fusion model (OAFuser) that leverages dense context from the central view and extracts the angular information from subaperture images to generate semantically consistent results. To simultaneously streamline the redundant information from the light field cameras and avoid feature loss during network propagation, we present a simple yet very effective subaperture fusion module (SAFM). This module efficiently embeds subaperture images in angular features, allowing the network to process each subaperture image with a minimal computational demand of only (∼1\rm GFlops). Furthermore, to address the mismatched spatial information across viewpoints, we present a center angular rectification module (CARM) to realize feature resorting and prevent feature occlusion caused by misalignment. The proposed OAFuser achieves state-of-the-art performance on four UrbanLF datasets in terms of all evaluation metrics and sets a new record of 84.93% in mIoU on the UrbanLF-Real Extended dataset, with a gain of +3.69%. Many typical converter control strategies used in microgrids are complex or require modifications in the power structure. The complexities are due coupling effects among controllers and time-delay caused in exchanging information in the system. This paper proposes simplified control strategies for power converters in a grid-connected hybrid DC-AC microgrid, aiming to ensure precise voltage and current regulation. The used controllers are proportional-resonant, integral-double-lead, proportional-integral and single integral controller. In this paper, the methodology for tuning each controller is carefully described in detail and recommendation for choosing their bandwidth is given. Then, the designed controllers are discretized through the Backward-Euler approximation. The power converters of the microgrid are an inverter, a Buck, a Boost and a bidirectional DC-DC. A case study is conducted through simulations with Matlab/Simulink. Results show that the controlled variables follow their reference signals with negligible steady-state error, proving the efficacy of the simplified control strategies and allowing an stable operation of the microgrid. © 2023 IEEE.

Aiming at the shortcomings of conventional SAX that using the mean value as the eigenvalue may lead to misclassification, this paper comprehensively considers the numerical distribution difference and morphological fluctuation characteristics of time series data. Firstly, wavelet packet decomposition (WPD) can decompose various types of non-smooth random signals into wavelet components at different scales. Firstly, the WPD is used to extract the features of the time series, and then the Fast Dynamic Time Warping (FastDTW) is used to take advantage of the metrics, and the FastDTW metrics are applied to the features to define the global trend indicators. Then, the SAX distance is combined with the trend distance, and an improved distance measure is proposed. Finally, the experimental results on different time series datasets show that the proposed method has the highest classification accuracy in 11 of the 20 datasets, which proves that the representation method proposed in the paper is significantly better than the original SAX representation and the improved SAX representation. © 2023 ACM.

In the context of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), the role of vehicle detection and classification is indispensable for streamlining transportation management, refining traffic control, and conducting in-depth accident analyses. However, the intricate task of accurately detecting multi-oriented vehicles in diverse scenarios remains a challenge, even with the advancements in ITS. Factors such as vehicle morphology, design, road conditions, structural details, and climatic variables provide a significant part in the detection. To address this, our study introduces an advanced YOLOv8n model, specifically the YOLOv8n-CGW, which is built upon pre-trained deep learning frameworks. This model is meticulously tailored to enhance the detection capabilities for multi-oriented vehicles. Comprehensive evaluations on esteemed datasets like MtV, MERGED, Custom dataset, DAWN, WEDGE, and UA-DETRAC underscore the superiority of our approach over existing models. Notably, our YOLOv8n-CGW model achieves a remarkable mAP of 83.3% and boasts a swift inference time of 0.0019s, setting a new benchmark in the domain. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
