Developing a modelling environment of spacecraft solar array in low Earth orbit using real-time telemetry data

Spacecraft solar arrays convert sunlight into electrical energy to fulfil the energy requirements of various missions. This work proposes a comprehensive environment for accurate power operation predictions. Specifically, this environment simulates the behaviour of a body-mounted solar array. Furthermore, the designing and modelling processes of the solar array require considering different technical and practical constraints posed by the space environment. These challenges necessitate a thorough evaluation of all potential sources of losses and degradation. Compared to conventional approaches, our novel SSA model incorporates the complete spacecraft mission design scenario, thus it incorporates the operational cyclogram and power budget calculation. To substantiate our proposed method, telemetry data from the commercial LEOS-50 platform is leveraged to develop an experimental, mathematical, and thermal in-orbit model based on GaAs technology. This approach stands out for its exceptional accuracy in predicting the output power characteristics of solar panels. Therefore, it ensures achieving mission requirements from inception to completion in the beginning-of-life and end-of-life stages. The results demonstrate the success of the SSA operation in converting sunlight into electrical energy with a high conversion rate. © 2025 The Authors

Modular smart furniture system for independent living of older adults- user experience study

Background: The ageing of the population represents a significant challenge, however, it is also a huge potential driver for innovation. Technology development capabilities are rapidly increasing, which enables new, innovative solutions when considering the ageing population. Objective: To promote the successful development and implementation of new technologies (in this case, smart furniture), positive user feedback and experiences are required. Methods: In this study, several modular smart furniture prototypes were developed, offering a potential solution to several challenges associated with ageing. The aim was to investigate which features positively affect user experience and consequently form the basis for smart, ageing-friendly furniture design guidelines. The smart furniture systems consisted of five prototypes: Fall Detection system with assistive Mobile Robot, ReAbleChair, Magic Mirror, Smart Gaming Chair, and 3D printed handles. These prototypes were presented to seniors in a home-like environment, after which participants completed a questionnaire and were interviewed. The themes used in the semi-structured interview followed the structure of Jesse Garrett's user experience framework. Results: The most essential feature was found to be modularity, or the ability to customize solutions according to the end user's capabilities and needs. In addition, results highlight that smart furniture should be aesthetically pleasing whilst still serving its primary purpose (i.e. as an item of furniture). Administrative components of the software should be removed from the end user's User Interface (UI) and integrated in a separate UI, to simplify the end user's interaction with the technology. Installation and customization services, as well as value-adding services (i.e. monitoring) were seen to offer potential. Conclusions: In general, the user experiences were positive. MENAHIA (Middle East and North African Health Informatics Association) is the International Medical Informatics Association chapter dedicated to the Middle East and North Africa region. This region is rapidly growing in terms of the use of health informatics or what has been recently coined digital health. Human health is highly affected by the health of the environment, animal health, food, nutrition, climate change, and many other factors that are beyond the biological or genetic structure of human beings. The impact of animal health and the health of the environment on people's health is an old phenomenon but recent reemerging and appearance of diseases have clearly demonstrated the link between these. The Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that almost all of us have been suffering from is an example of this. A number of countries in the region have already shown the depth and the work that they do to integrate the concept of 'One Health' in the public health surveillance system as they have described the work that has been done to capture data from databases other than those dealing with human beings. The examples that were provided to monitor the health of animals, agriculture, environmental health, climate change, and man-made and natural disasters are just examples of what countries have been registering in their databases and informing the health authorities of these changes and emerging trends. © The Author(s) 2023.

In this work, an n-th order Generalized Tracking Differentiator (GTD) is proposed based on sigmoid function with a continuous structure, including both linear and nonlinear parts, thus increasing the estimation accuracy of the input signal and its derivatives, and overcoming the inherent issues related to the classical Tracking Differentiators (TDs). Then, a 2nd-order version of the proposed GTD is derived and optimized with further improvements which are reflected in the excellent behavior in the time and frequency domains. Moreover, stability analysis using the method of Lyapunov analysis is also investigated and the performance of the GTD is proven in the time and frequency domains and revealed that the proposed GTD considerably reduces the "peaking phenomenon" and "noise" and eliminates the "chattering phenomenon" from the signal derivatives. The excellent results of the proposed GTD are demonstrated through simulations on noise-free and noisy signals and compared with the Robust Exact Uniformly Convergent Arbitrary Order Differentiator (REUCAOD). © 2021 faculty of engineering, Ain Shams University

We are concerned with finding Nash Equilibria in agent-based multi-cluster games, where agents are separated into distinct clusters. While the agents inside each cluster collaborate to achieve a common goal, the clusters are considered to be virtual players that compete against each other in a non-cooperative game with respect to a coupled cost function. In such scenarios, the inner-cluster problem and the game between the clusters need to be solved simultaneously. Therefore, the resulting inter-cluster Nash Equilibrium should also be a minimizer of the social welfare problem inside the clusters. In this work, this setup is cast as a distributed optimization problem with sparse state information. Hence, critical information, such as the agent’s cost functions, remain private. We present a distributed algorithm that converges with a linear rate to the optimal solution. Furthermore, we apply our algorithm to an extended cournot game to verify our theoretical results. © 2021, CC BY.

Bioimpedance is a commonly used method for various conditions monitoring. In this paper, the authors carried out some research where they implemented various smoothing filters to enable identification of the bioimpedance spectroscopy parameters. The proposed filtering methods may also be used for application on embedded systems, which have smaller computing power but have become recently very popular. The obtained results with the implementation of smoothing filters were promising, however, some of the obtained results were unsatisfactory. This work also contains a brief introduction to bioimpedance spectroscopy and smoothing filters.

Here, reported photothermal-pyroelectric-Fe0.9Ni0.1S2/ZnSnO3 photocatalytic system via hydrothermal and annealing methods. Fe0.9Ni0.1S2 nanoparticles (NPs) could convert most of near-infrared (NIR) light energy into heat energy to drive the pyroelectric effect of ZnSnO3, causing natural polarization and thermoelectric effects under the condensed water circulation. As a result, the as-designed Fe0.9Ni0.1S2/ZnSnO3-2 composites could yield up to 7.194 mmol g-1 h-1) with exceptional photocatalytic performance under simulated sunlight. This result was 5.41 and 4.92-fold those of Fe0.9Ni0.1S2 and ZnSnO3, respectively, with 16.66% apparent quantum yield under 365 nm monochromatic light. At the same time, the composites could also oxidize BA and yield up to 6.640 mmol g-1 h-1) n-benzylidene benzylamine with a 90.2% selectivity. Due to the synergistic effect of Z-scheme's built-in electric field and photothermal-pyroelectric of Fe0.9Ni0.1S2/ZnSnO3, the surface charges released on them could direct the charge transfer pathways and restrain their recombination with accelerated electron transfer kinetics, thus extending the carrier lifetime. © 2024, The Authors. Layered carbides and borides, blending ceramic and metallic properties, offer great promise for future nuclear reactor applications due to their complex nanolaminate crystal structure. We conducted a comprehensive investigation to understand the profound effects of He ion irradiation on polycrystalline Fe2AlB2 samples exposed to varying fluences and temperatures, emulating conditions akin to future nuclear reactors, highlighting the study's critical *** at room temperature triggers significant changes in lattice parameters: the a-lattice parameter expands, while the c-lattice parameter contracts, leading to an amorphous layer. After annealing at 400°C, the amorphous structure persists, whereas annealing at 800°C initiates complete recrystallization, accompanied by bubble growth. Conversely, irradiation at 400°C with the same fluence results in smaller bubbles without an amorphous layer. DBS analysis reveals rapid growth of vacancy-type defects during irradiation at 400°C, surpassing the rate observed at room temperature before annealing. Under irradiation at 700°C, faceted bubbles develop exclusively within Fe2AlB2, with no such bubbles in Al2O3. These faceted bubbles align themselves along (110) planes. Simultaneously, irradiation prompts tangled dislocations within the damaged layer, fostering the congregation of polygonal bubbles along GBs, along with the creation of denuded areas at ***, Fe2AlB2 demonstrates remarkable oxidation resistance under high-temperature irradiation, maintaining surface stability without the cracks seen in ion-irradiated Ti3SiC2 and Ti2AlC at room *** findings firmly establish Fe2AlB2 as a robust leader in nuclear materials science, showcasing outstanding irradiation resilience, encouraging further exploration for reactor applications operating below 500°C. © 2023, The Authors. Let XNLP be the class of parameterized problems such that an instance of size n with parameter k can be solved nondeterministically in time f(k)nO(1) and space f(k) log(n) (for some computable function f). We give a wide variety of XNLP-complete problems, such as List Coloring and Precoloring Extension with pathwidth as parameter, Scheduling of Jobs with Precedence Constraints, with both number of machines and partial order width as parameter, Bandwidth and variants of Weighted CNF-Satisfiability. In particular, this implies that all these problems are W[t]-hard for all t. This also answers a long standing question on the parameterized complexity of the Bandwidth problem.
