Knowledge graph (KG) representation learning aims to map entities and relations into a low-dimensional representation space, showing significant potential in many tasks. Existing approaches follow two categories: (1) Graph-based approaches encode KG elements into vectors using structural score functions. (2) Text-based approaches embed text descriptions of entities and relations via pre-trained language models (PLMs), further fine-tuned with triples. We argue that graph-based approaches struggle with sparse data, while text-based approaches face challenges with complex relations. To address these limitations, we propose a unified Text-Augmented Attention-based Recurrent Network, bridging the gap between graph and natural language. Specifically, we employ a graph attention network based on local influence weights to model local structural information and utilize a PLM based prompt learning to learn textual information, enhanced by a mask-reconstruction strategy based on global influence weights and textual contrastive learning for improved robustness and generalizability. Besides, to effectively model multi-hop relations, we propose a novel semantic-depth guided path extraction algorithm and integrate cross-attention layers into recurrent neural networks to facilitate learning the long-term relation dependency and offer an adaptive attention mechanism for varied-length information. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our model exhibits superiority over existing models across KG completion and question-answering tasks.

PointCA: Evaluating the Robustness of 3D Point Cloud Completion Models Against Adversarial Examples

Point cloud completion, as the upstream procedure of 3D recognition and segmentation, has become an essential part of many tasks such as navigation and scene understanding. While various point cloud completion models have demonstrated their powerful capabilities, their robustness against adversarial attacks, which have been proven to be fatally malicious towards deep neural networks, remains unknown. In addition, existing attack approaches towards point cloud classifiers cannot be applied to the completion models due to different output forms and attack purposes. In order to evaluate the robustness of the completion models, we propose PointCA, the first adversarial attack against 3D point cloud completion models. PointCA can generate adversarial point clouds that maintain high similarity with the original ones, while being completed as another object with totally different semantic information. Specifically, we minimize the representation discrepancy between the adversarial example and the target point set to jointly explore the adversarial point clouds in the geometry space and the feature space. Furthermore, to launch a stealthier attack, we innovatively employ the neighbourhood density information to tailor the perturbation constraint, leading to geometry-aware and distribution-adaptive modification for each point. Extensive experiments against different premier point cloud completion networks show that PointCA can cause a performance degradation from 77.9% to 16.7%, with the structure chamfer distance kept below 0.01. We conclude that existing completion models are severely vulnerable to adversarial examples, and state-of-the-art defenses for point cloud classification will be partially invalid when applied to incomplete and uneven point cloud data. In this paper, we propose a simultaneous wire-less information and power transfer (SWIPT)-enabled Ad hoc network underlay rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA)-based system with intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). Therein, a base station (BS) in a primary network uses RSMA to serve primary users (PUs), and secondary user (SU) pairs constitute an Ad hoc network sharing the spectrum with the primary network. The power splitting (PS)-based SWIPT protocol is used in the Ad hoc network that allow the SU receivers to decode the information and harvest energy simultaneously. An IRS is deployed to further enhance the system performance. We formulate optimization problems that optimize the common data rate allocation and beamformers associated with the common and private messages of RSMA, the beamformers and the PS factor in the Ad hoc network, and reflection coefficients of the IRS to maximize the minimum rate of the PUs while satisfying the requirements of harvested energy and data rate of the SU pairs. The optimization problems are non-convex and challenging to be solved. We propose a low complexity algorithm based on alternating descent techniques. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness and improvement of the proposed framework compared with the framework based on existing multiple access schemes, i.e., non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA).

Black Box Watermarking for DNN Model Integrity Detection Using Label Loss

After significant investments of time and resources, the accuracy of deep neural network (DNN) models has reached commercially viable levels, leading to their increasing deployment on cloud platforms for commercial services. However, ongoing research indicates that the challenges facing deep neural network models are continually evolving, particularly with various attacks emerging to compromise their integrity. Deep neural networks are susceptible to poisoning attacks and backdoor attacks, both of which involve malicious fine-tuning of the deep models. Malicious fine-tuning can lead to unpredictable outputs from deep neural network models. Although at-tempts have been made to address this issue, these solutions often increase model complexity or diminish model performance. We propose a black-box watermarking technique based on trigger image sets, which can effectively detect malicious fine-tuning while also enabling copyright authentication. This watermarking technique builds upon black-box watermarking methods, leveraging trig-ger image sets and utilizing a two-stage alternating training approach to fine-tune the model. During training, a novel loss function is employed to optimize the trigger images, thereby embedding the watermark while preserving the model’s original classification capabilities. The proposed watermarking model is highly sensitive to malicious fine-tuning, resulting in unstable classification outcomes for trigger images. Ultimately, by inputting trigger image sets and analyzing the output of the watermarking model, the integrity of the deep neural network model can be verified. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in detecting the integrity of DNN models. © 2024 Codon Publications. All rights reserved.

The cloud services which are now the most common data transmission and endanger organizations’ confidential information, it’s more and more visible that security of any data should be a main priority for companies. MFA, which consists of adopting multi factor approach to authentication and thereby provides multiple types of verification thus ensures effective security, is leveraged to ensure resource access. This paper proposes a full-fledged way of implementing MFA for cloud services in order to strengthen the security given and manage the constatoing risks. The proposed methodology consists of main stages like requirements determining, technology reviewing, risks assessment, technology design, integration with cloud services, users training, pilot deployment and testing, implementation and configuration, monitoring and maintenance as well as constant improvement. Through a systemic approach, the organizations can be equipped with the capability to personalize the MFA solutions according to their security goals, to bring the cloud environments on board, as well as to ensure that the organizations comply with the security standards as set by various governing bodies. This research adds a grain of salt to the development of cloud security good practices through offering a disciplined approach to MFA implementation, which allows partners to harden their cloud assets and protect against growing cyber threats.

Cortical surface registration plays a crucial role in coordinating individual cortical functions and anatomical features, serving as a fundamental step in cortical surface analysis. Its aim is to align the anatomical or functional regions of different individuals, which is of great importance for neuroimaging studies across different populations. Currently, cortical surface registration techniques based on classical methods have been well developed. However, a key issue with classical registration methods is that for each pair of images to be registered, it is necessary to search for the optimal transformation in the deformation space according to a specific optimization algorithm until the similarity measure function converges, which cannot meet the requirements of real-time and high-precision in medical image registration. With the spectacular success of deep learning in the field of computer vision, researching cortical surface image registration techniques based on deep learning models has become a new direction. But so far, there are still only a few studies on cortical surface image registration based on deep learning. Moreover, although deep learning methods theoretically have stronger representation capabilities, surpassing the most advanced classical methods in registration accuracy and distortion control remains a challenge. Therefore, to address this challenge, this paper constructs a deep learning model to study the technology of cortical surface image registration. The specific work is as follows: (1) An unsupervised cortical surface registration network based on a multi-scale cascaded structure is designed, and a convolution method based on spherical harmonic transformation is introduced to register cortical surface data. Online Communities as a Support System for Alzheimer Disease and Dementia Care: Large-Scale Exploratory Study

Background: Alzheimer disease (AD) is the leading type of dementia, demanding comprehensive understanding and intervention strategies. In the United States, where over 6 million people are impacted, the prevalence of AD and related dementias (AD/ADRD) presents a growing public health challenge. However, individuals living with AD/ADRD and their caregivers frequently express feelings of marginalization, describing interactions characterized by perceptions of patient infantilization and a lack of respect. Objective: This study aimed to address 2 key research questions (RQs). For RQ1, we investigated the needs and concerns expressed by participants in online social communities focused on AD/ADRD, specifically on 2 platforms–Reddit’s r/Alzheimers and ALZConnected. For RQ2, we examined the prevalence and distribution of social support corresponding to these needs and concerns, and the association between these needs and received support. Methods: We collected 13,429 posts and comments from the r/Alzheimers subreddit spanning July 2014 to November 2023, and 90,113 posts and comments from ALZConnected between December 2020 (the community’s earliest post) and November 2023. We conducted topic modeling using latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA), followed by labeling to identify the major topical themes of discussions. We used transfer learning classifiers to identify the occurrences of emotional support (ES) and informational support (IS) in the comments (or responses) in the discussions. We built regression models to examine how various topical themes are associated with the kinds of support received. Results: Our analysis revealed a diverse range of topics reflecting community members’ varying needs and concerns of individuals affected by AD/ADRD. These themes encapsulate the primary discussions within the online communities: memory care, nursing and caregiving, gratitude and acknowledgment, and legal and financial considerations. Design and analysis of robust deep learning models for stock price prediction

Building predictive models for robust and accurate prediction of stock prices and stock price movement is a challenging research problem to solve. The well-known efficient market hypothesis believes in the impossibility of accurate prediction of future stock prices in an efficient stock market as the stock prices are assumed to be purely stochastic. However, numerous works proposed by researchers have demonstrated that it is possible to predict future stock prices with a high level of precision using sophisticated algorithms, model architectures, and the selection of appropriate variables in the models. This chapter proposes a collection of predictive regression models built on deep learning architecture for robust and precise prediction of the future prices of a stock listed in the diversified sectors in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India. The Metastock tool is used to download the historical stock prices over a period of two years (2013- 2014) at 5 minutes intervals. While the records for the first year are used to train the models, the testing is carried out using the remaining records. The design approaches of all the models and their performance results are presented in detail. The models are also compared based on their execution time and accuracy of prediction. Which Pixel to Annotate: a Label-Efficient Nuclei Segmentation Framework

Recently deep neural networks, which require a large amount of annotated samples, have been widely applied in nuclei instance segmentation of H&E stained pathology images. However, it is inefficient and unnecessary to label all pixels for a dataset of nuclei images which usually contain similar and redundant patterns. Although unsupervised and semi-supervised learning methods have been studied for nuclei segmentation, very few works have delved into the selective labeling of samples to reduce the workload of annotation. Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel full nuclei segmentation framework that chooses only a few image patches to be annotated, augments the training set from the selected samples, and achieves nuclei segmentation in a semi-supervised manner. In the proposed framework, we first develop a novel consistency-based patch selection method to determine which image patches are the most beneficial to the training. Then we introduce a conditional single-image GAN with a component-wise discriminator, to synthesize more training samples. Lastly, our proposed framework trains an existing segmentation model with the above augmented samples. The experimental results show that our proposed method could obtain the same-level performance as a fully-supervised baseline by annotating less than 5% pixels on some benchmarks.
