HAAQI-Net: A Non-Intrusive Neural Music Audio Quality Assessment Model for Hearing Aids

This paper introduces HAAQI-Net, a non-intrusive music audio quality assessment model for hearing aid users. Unlike traditional methods such as Hearing Aid Audio Quality Index (HAAQI), which requires intrusive reference signal comparisons, HAAQI-Net offers a more accessible and computationally efficient alternative. Leveraging a bidirectional long short-term memory architecture with attention mechanisms and features extracted from a pre-trained BEATs model, it can predict HAAQI scores directly from music audio clips and hearing loss patterns. The experimental results demonstrate that, compared to the traditional HAAQI as the reference, HAAQI-Net achieves a linear correlation coefficient (LCC) of 0.9368, a Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (SRCC) of 0.9486, and a mean squared error (MSE) of 0.0064, while significantly reducing the inference time from 62.52 seconds to 2.54 seconds. Furthermore, a knowledge distillation strategy was applied, reducing the parameters by 75.85% and inference time by 96.46%, while maintaining strong performance (LCC: 0.9071, SRCC: 0.9307, MSE: 0.0091). To expand its capabilities, HAAQI-Net was adapted to predict subjective human scores, mean opinion score (MOS), by fine-tuning. This adaptation significantly improved the prediction accuracy. Furthermore, the robustness of HAAQI-Net was evaluated under varying sound pressure level (SPL) conditions, revealing optimal performance at a reference SPL of 65 dB, with the accuracy gradually decreasing as SPL deviated from this point. The advancements in subjective score prediction, SPL robustness, and computational efficiency position HAAQI-Net as a reliable solution for music audio quality assessment, significantly contributing to the development of efficient and accurate models in audio signal processing and hearing aid technology.

Enhancing dynamic ensemble selection: combining self-generating prototypes and meta-classifier for data classification

In dynamic ensemble selection (DES) techniques, the competence level of each classifier is estimated from a pool of classifiers, and only the most competent ones are selected to classify a specific test sample and predict its class labels. A significant challenge in DES is efficiently estimating classifier competence for accurate prediction, especially when these techniques employ the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm to define the competence region of a test sample based on a validation set (known as the dynamic selection dataset or DSEL). This challenge is exacerbated when the DSEL does not accurately reflect the original data distribution or contains noisy data. Such conditions can reduce the precision of the system, induce unexpected behaviors, and compromise stability. To address these issues, this paper introduces the self-generating prototype ensemble selection (***) framework, which combines meta-learning with prototype selection. The proposed meta-classifier of *** supports multiple classification algorithms and utilizes meta-features from prototypes derived from the original training set, enhancing the selection of the best classifiers for a test sample. The method improves the efficiency of KNN in defining competence regions by generating a reduced and noise-free DSEL set that preserves the original data distribution. Furthermore, the *** framework facilitates tailored optimization for specific classification challenges through the use of hyperparameters that control prototype selection and the meta-classifier operation mode to select the most appropriate classification algorithm for dynamic selection. This study conducts a comparative analysis of the performance of ten novel and wellperforming metaheuristic algorithms for parameter estimation of solar photovoltaic models. This optimization problem involves accurately identifying parameters that reflect the complex and nonlinear behaviours of photovoltaic cells affected by changing environmental conditions and material inconsistencies. This estimation is challenging due to computational complexity and the risk of optimization errors, which can hinder reliable performance predictions. The algorithms evaluated include the Crayfish Optimization Algorithm, the Golf Optimization Algorithm, the Coati Optimization Algorithm, the Crested Porcupine Optimizer, the Growth Optimizer, the Artificial Protozoa Optimizer, the Secretary Bird Optimization Algorithm, the Mother Optimization Algorithm, the Election Optimizer Algorithm, and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training-Based Optimizer. These algorithms are applied to solve four well-established photovoltaic models: the singlediode model, the double-diode model, the triple-diode model, and different photovoltaic module models. The study focuses on key performance metrics such as execution time, number of function evaluations, and solution optimality. The results reveal significant differences in the efficiency and accuracy of the algorithms, with some algorithms demonstrating superior performance in specific models. The Friedman test was utilized to rank the performance of the various algorithms, revealing the Growth Optimizer as the top performer across all the considered models. This optimizer achieved a root mean square error of 9.8602187789E−04 for the single-diode model, 9.8248487610E−04 for both the double-diode and triplediode models and 1.2307306856E−02 for the photovoltaic module model. This research aims to help the user monitor their heart’s condition and notify other people in case of an emergency due to an abnormal heartbeat (normal heartbeat around 60-100 beats per minute). From the heart rate graph, the user could do a consultation with an expert in the nearest hospital using a map feature that will show the nearest hospital with a 1 KM radius from the user’s current location. The heart is undeniably an essential part of the human body system. The heart's missions are to pump blood to the lungs to expel the waste carbon dioxide that resulted from the respiration and pump blood that will deliver oxygen throughout the human body's circulation system. While the blood that carries oxygen being pumped throughout the human body, the heart will provide the oxygen to all cells. Body cells need to use oxygen to get the energy from food through a process called cellular respiration. Monitoring our heartbeat and pulse rate can increase people’s awareness about their heart’s health, motivating, and encouraging people to maintain a healthy eating plan and exercise. This research will be implemented ECG Sensor. The sensor will then send the data to the android application via HC-06 Bluetooth module. Monitoring the heart rate and analyzing the user’s heartbeat will be done in the android with a microcontroller device's help. © 2020 IEEE.

Embodied conversational agents (ECAs) are computer-generated, human-like characters that interact with human users in face-to-face conversations. ECA is a powerful tool for representing cultural differences and is suitable for interactive training or edutainment systems. This article presents preliminary results from the development of a culture-adaptive virtual tour guide agent for serving Japanese, Croatian, and general Western users by displaying appropriate verbal and non-verbal behaviors. It is being implemented in Generic ECA Framework, a modular framework for developing ECAs. Dividing the ECA functions into reusable and loosely coupled modules minimizes the effort required to implement additional behavior and facilitates incremental scale up of the system. © Springer-Verlag London Limited 2009.

This paper presents a quiz game agent who is attentive to the dynamics of multiple concurrent participants. The attentiveness of this agent is meant to be achieved by an utterance policy that determines the nature of the utterance and whether, when, and to whom to utter. Two heuristics are introduced to drive the policy: the interaction atmosphere (AT) of the participants and the participant who tends to lead the conversation (CLP) at a specifi time point. They are estimated from the activeness of the participants' face movements and acoustic information during their discussion of the answer. In order to the inherent drawback of a 2D agent that makes it difficult for multiple concurrent users to distinguish the focus of its attention, a physical pointer is also introduced. This system is then evaluated using questionnaire investigation and video data analysis. The joint results of the experiments indicated that the methods for estimating AT and CLP worked. The participants pay more attention to the agent and participate in the game more actively if the indication of the pointer is more comprehensive. In recent years, computer-generated interactive virtual characters, called Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs), are subjects of considerable ongoing research. Nevertheless, their conversational abilities are mediocre compared to real human behaviors. Among limitations, most of ECAs are incapable of participating in natural conversations in which the number of participants can change dynamically. In the ongoing work we investigate principles of integrating a multi-user support in an ECA system. We present experiments and implementation approach of a prototype system in which a tour guide ECA interacts with one or two users. The system combines different technologies to detect and address the system users and draw their attention. Experimental interaction with the system produces encouraging results. The system can address the user's appearance, departure, decreased level of interest and identify his conversational role. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.

The advancement of traffic makes world more and more internationalized and increases frequency of communication between people who come from different cultures. Differences in their conversation go beyond the languages they speak to the non-verbal behaviors they express while talking. To improve the abilities of the embodied conversational agents (ECAs) while interacting with human users we are working on the ECA based application, a tour guide of city Dubrovnik that servers visitors in Japanese, Croatian and general western cultures speaking in English. This paper presents the overall architecture and explains possible extension with another culture. It describes issues we met while making agent talk in Croatian and proposed solutions.

The k nearest neighbor (kNN) is a traditional supervised classifier used in data mining tasks. However, when used in real applications, mainly in a dataset with class imbalance or class overlap, kNN suffers with problems in accuracy performance. In this paper, we propose three prototype selection methods using self-organizing maps (SOM) and information entropy to increase the effectiveness of the kNN classifier in datasets with these conditions. The methods, named SOMEntropyKnn, were able to increase the effectiveness of the kNN classifier in all the 14 datasets used in the experiment, increasing the accuracy performance from datasets with imbalance or overlap problems.

Embodied Conversational Agents (EGAs) are life-like computer generated characters that interact with human users in face-to-face multi-modal conversations.
