Background: Association rules are more comprehensive and understandable than fault-prone module predictors (such as logistic regression model, random forest and support vector machine). One of the challenges is that there are usually too many similar rules to be extracted by the rule mining. Aim: This paper proposes a rule reduction technique that can eliminate complex (long) and/or similar rules without sacrificing the prediction performance as much as possible. Method: The notion of the method is to removing long and similar rules unless their confidence level as a heuristic is high enough than shorter rules. For example, it starts with selecting rules with shortest length (length=1), and then it continues through the 2nd shortest rules selection (length=2) based on the current confidence level, this process is repeated on the selection for longer rules until no rules are worth included. Result: An empirical experiment has been conducted with the Mylyn and Eclipse PDE datasets. The result of the Mylyn dataset showed the proposed method was able to reduce the number of rules from 1347 down to 13, while the delta of the prediction performance was only. 015 (from. 757 down to. 742) in terms of the F1 prediction criteria. In the experiment with Eclipsed PDE dataset, the proposed method reduced the number of rules from 398 to 12, while the prediction performance even improved (from. 426 to. 441.) Conclusion: The novel technique introduced resolves the rule explosion problem in association rule mining for software proneness prediction, which is significant and provides better understanding of the causes of faulty modules.

As the need for achieving optimal performance in prediction models, several recent and complex models have been developed. However, many of these models operate as black boxes, providing little insight into their predictive results. In recent years, three gradient-boosting methods based on Decision Trees have been recommended, i.e., XGBoost, CatBoost, and LightGBM. These methods have proven to deliver competitive performance with fast training times. Nevertheless, in critical domains like security, there is a growing need for increased transparency among stakeholders. One pressing concern in the security field is the proliferation of phishing websites. To address this issue, we propose an explainable machine learning-based approach using gradient-boosting methods with hyperparameter optimization on three phishing website datasets. Our best methods surpass the state-of-the-art phishing website detection methods, achieving accuracy rates of 97.45%, 99.16%, and $\mathbf{9 7. 8 5 \%}$ for the UCI (2015), Mendeley (2018), and Mendeley (2020) datasets, respectively. Subsequently, we implement posthoc explainability using SHAP and LIME for the selected dataset. The experimental results indicate that three features, i.e., length_url, directory_length, and time_domain_activation, are consistently identified as the most influential features in the dataset. Moreover, our proposed approach demonstrates promising results for detecting phishing websites with both high accuracy and explainability.

The valley transport properties of a superlattice of out-of-plane Gaussian deformations are calculated using a Green's function and a machine learning approach. Our results show that periodicity significantly improves the valley filter capabilities of a single Gaussian deformation; these manifest themselves in the conductance as a sequence by valley filter plateaus. We establish that the physical effect behind the observed valley notch filter is the coupling between counterpropagating transverse modes; the complex relationship between the design parameters of the superlattice and the valley filter effect make it difficult to estimate in advance the valley filter potentialities of a given superlattice. With this in mind, we show that a deep neural network can be trained to predict valley polarization with a precision similar to the Green's function but with much less computational effort.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) poses a significant health challenge, necessitating accurate predictions of neurological outcomes in comatose patients, where good outcomes are defined as the recovery of most cognitive functions. Electroencephalogram (EEG) serves as a valuable biomarker for monitoring neurological states due to its rich, time-dependent information. This study aims to predict neurological outcomes using early EEG data by employing the Transformer model, which leverages multi-headed attention to identify patterns in lengthy sequences such as hour-long EEG recordings. Unlike traditional methods that use subsampled EEG epochs, we utilize the entire EEG sequences, subdivided into time steps, allowing our model to capture detailed temporal patterns via the attention mechanism. Moreover, we trained our proposed model using each EEG recording as an individual data sample but evaluated our model through aggregated patient-wise predictions. This approach allows us to boost the data sample size. Our results demonstrate promising predictive performance, achieving an AUROC of 0.82 and AUPRC of 0.90 on the holdout test set and an AUROC of 0.73 and AUPRC of 0.93 on an external test set with patient-wise predictions. This study highlights the potential of utilizing attention mechanisms to capture important time series progressions across EEG sequences for improving SCA prognosis. © 2024 IEEE.

Superior and quality human resources are based on healthy human resources with indicators of adequate nutritional intake according to age development. However, the world still faces the problem of hunger and malnutrition today. According to a UNICEF report, the number of people suffering from malnutrition in the world will reach 767.9 million people in 2021. The World Health Organization (WHO) said that malnutrition is a dangerous threat to the health of the world's population. Stunting also has an impact in Indonesia, the prevalence of toddlers experiencing stunting in Indonesia is 24.4% in 2021. The solution created is to classify and cluster the prevalence of stunting to produce a pattern that can be used as best practice to be transmitted to other affected areas. The algorithm used is Euclid. The Euclid algorithm can cluster stunting prevalence data into 4 clusters with the very little category at 79%, the little category at 67%, the many categories at 51%, and the very much category at 21%. The results of the classification and clustering of the best stunting prevalence in cluster one with a very small number, can be used as a source of accurate and updated information that can be used by the government in its efforts to optimize stunting handling in each district/city based on artificial intelligence which can provide handling and optimization patterns. stunting in every district/city.

This paper presents two approaches to achieve attentiveness of a virtual quiz agent in the interactions with multiple users at the same time. One attempts to improve the agent with an utterance strategy to determine whether, when, and whom to suggest the users the availability of hints or to urge the users to answer. In the other one, a transition state model presenting the agent's attitude that allows the agent to perform meaningful idle motions is introduced. The transition model is obtained in a Wizard-of-Oz (WOZ) experiment and is learned with support vector machine (SVM). These two prototype systems are evaluated with an automatic attitude test, go/no-go task (GNAT) and regular questionnaires. From the joint results of the evaluation subject experiments, the direction of finding an appropriate triggering timing of the agent's behaviours is proved to be effective. Immersive learning has gained significant attention with the rising trend of spatial computing, particularly in the after-pandemic era. Numerous research has explored the potential of immersive learning in higher education, primarily on the educational sector. However, prior research has frequently focused too narrowly on the effects of technology and neglected to address the crucial element influencing successful immersive learning in higher education. This study seeks to pinpoint the crucial element contributing to the development of immersive learning experiences. The methodology uses a systematic literature review (SLR) from 2018 up to 2023 to investigate the critical factors of immersive Learning in Higher Education. From the 728 papers initially retrieved, 274 were considered potential candidates, and ultimately, 86 articles were selected based on their relevance to the research question. The results reveal that the critical factors include learning design, technology, immersion, engagement, interactivity, and usability. Academic interests will benefit from this SLR's consequences as institutions create models for designing suitable immersive learning, especially within the context of higher education.

Multivariate time series (MTS) data, when sampled irregularly and asynchronously, often present extensive missing values. Conventional methodologies for MTS analysis tend to rely on temporal embeddings based on timestamps that necessitate subsequent imputations, yet these imputed values frequently deviate substantially from their actual counterparts, thereby compromising prediction accuracy. Furthermore, these methods typically fail to provide robust initial embeddings for values infrequently observed or even absent within the training set, posing significant challenges to model generalizability. In response to these challenges, we propose SCAlable Numerical Embedding (SCANE), a novel framework that treats each feature value as an independent token, effectively bypassing the need for imputation. SCANE regularizes the traits of distinct feature embeddings and enhances representational learning through a scalable embedding mechanism. Coupling SCANE with the Transformer Encoder architecture, we develop the Scalable nUMerical eMbeddIng Transformer (SUMMIT), which is engineered to deliver precise predictive outputs for MTS characterized by prevalent missing entries. Our experimental validation, conducted across three disparate electronic health record (EHR) datasets marked by elevated missing value frequencies, confirms the superior performance of SUMMIT over contemporary state-of-the-art approaches addressing similar challenges. These results substantiate the efficacy of SCANE and SUMMIT, underscoring their potential applicability across a broad spectrum of MTS data analytical tasks. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. ABSTRACTIn a short span of time since its introduction, generative artificial intelligence (AI) has garnered much interest at both personal and organizational levels. This is because of its potential to cause drastic and widespread shifts in many aspects of life that are comparable to those of the Internet and smartphones. More specifically, generative AI utilizes machine learning, neural networks, and other techniques to generate new content (e.g. text, images, music) by analyzing patterns and information from the training data. This has enabled generative AI to have a wide range of applications, from creating personalized content to improving business operations. Despite its many benefits, there are also significant concerns about the negative implications of generative AI. In view of this, the current article brings together experts in a variety of fields to expound and provide multi-disciplinary insights on the opportunities, challenges, and research agendas of generative AI in specific industries (i.e. marketing, healthcare, human resource, education, banking, retailing, the workplace, manufacturing, and sustainable IT management).

As part of the 2023 PhysioNet Challenge, our team FINDING_MEMO utilized Transformer to predict outcomes using patient EEG data since it excels at dealing with sequential data like EEG. We mainly used the Transformer encoder block's multi-head self-attention to generate representations from the input and leverage several hidden layers to form the final prediction. Using the latest EEG from every patient, our team achieved the challenge score of 0.42 with the hidden validation set (ranked 36th out of 73 invited teams) and obtained a result of 0.37 (ranked 29th out of 36 qualified teams). Our results show a consistent performance across varying EEG recording durations in both the validation and test set. Our team also had the second-best score when evaluated, with only 12 hours of available recordings in the test set. Such promising results showcase the models' generalizability and clinical potential in predicting outcomes for comatose patients, especially for limited available EEG recordings.
