A transhumeral prosthesis restores missing anatomical segments below the shoulder, including the hand. Active prostheses utilize real-valued, continuous sensor data to recognize patient target poses, or goals, and proactively move the artificial limb. Previous studies have examined how well the data collected in stationary poses, without considering the time steps, can help discriminate the goals. In this case study paper, we focus on using time series data from surface electromyography electrodes and kinematic sensors to sequentially recognize patients' goals. Our approach involves transforming the data into discrete events and training an existing process mining-based goal recognition system. Results from data collected in a virtual reality setting with ten subjects demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed goal recognition approach, which achieves significantly better precision and recall than the state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and is less confident when wrong, which is beneficial when approximating smoother movements of prostheses. © 2023 IEEE.

A successful software development process depends on software requirements. Those requirements are often classified into two categories: functional requirements (FR) and non-functional requirements (NFR). In software development, NFRs play a crucial role, but they are often forgotten by the developers. Therefore, it causes adverse consequences. As a result, an NFR classification method is required to assist software developers in classifying NFR from requirement documents. The majority of research in this area focuses on categorizing requirements as FR or NFR. However, NFR can be divided into more than two categories. As a result, a multi-label categorization strategy was required. This study presented an approach for categorizing NFR based on product, process, and external factors. To categorize the NFR, the authors developed four machine learning-based algorithms entitled Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Tree (DT), and K Nearest Neighbor Classifier (KNN) classifier, as well as one deep learning method named Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model. Ultimately, the authors examine the models and conclude that the LSTM model which gained an accuracy of 99.69% is appropriate for this type of classification.

Modern fault diagnosis faces an imbalance issue at both the sample and feature levels. A common approach is to combine balancing strategies with feature selection algorithms to address this problem. However, this may result in feature subsets that cannot accurately represent the true data distribution. This paper proposes an imbalanced fault diagnosis method called RPLFS-MOBPSO, which combines region purity (RP) with local feature selection to achieve class balance implicitly by partitioning local regions. RP is used as a new objective in the optimization process to achieve accurate fault detection. The adaptive reference point method from Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm III is employed to maintain a diverse and evenly distributed external archive. On both the simulated Tennessee Eastma (TE) benchmark datasets and the real bearing experimental bench datasets, the proposed method achieves the best results compared to two LFS methods and four imbalanced ensemble algorithms based on different balancing strategies. We consider the problem of designing optimal differential privacy mechanisms with a favorable privacy-utility tradeoff in the limit of a large number n of compositions (i.e., sequential queries). Here, utility is measured by the average distance between the mechanism's input and output, evaluated by a cost function c. We show that if n is sufficiently large and the sensitivities of all queries are small, then the optimal additive noise mechanism has probability density function fully characterized by the ground-state eigenfunction of the Schrödinger operator with potential c. This leads to a family of optimal mechanisms, dubbed the Schrödinger mechanisms, depending on the choice of the cost function. Instantiating this result, we demonstrate that for c(x) = x2 the Gaussian mechanism is optimal, and for c(x) = |x|, the optimal mechanism is obtained by the Airy function, thereby leading to the Airy mechanism. © 2023 IEEE.

We construct vector differentially-private (DP) mechanisms that are asymptotically optimal in the limit of the number of compositions growing without bound. First, we derive via the central limit theorem a reduction from DP to a KL-divergence minimization problem. Second, we formulate the general theory of spherically-symmetric DP mechanisms in the large-composition regime. Specifically, we show that additive, continuous, spherically-symmetric DP mechanisms are optimal if one considers a spherically-symmetric cost (e.g., bounded noise variance) and an l2 sensitivity metric. We then formulate a finite-dimensional problem that produces noise distributions that can get arbitrarily close to optimal among monotone mechanisms. Finally, we demonstrate numerically that our proposed mechanism achieves better DP parameters than the vector Gaussian mechanism for the same variance constraint. © 2023 IEEE.

The concept of Digital Twin has been widely used by researchers to represent physical entities in computer-generated reality in the metaverse. In this research, a novel concept of 'Mobile Twin' is coined. Mobile Twin serves as a replica of a mobile device in the virtual environment enabling communication. The purpose of introducing Mobile Twin in the metaverse is to bring mobility and benefits similar to tangible mobile devices while eliminating the need for individual energy sources, storage limitations, resource usage, and efficiency. The true benefits of a mobile twin can be achieved with an architecture where computing nodes are decentralized, data processing is near the network's edge with faster response times and reduced latency. For this purpose, the mobile twin-based applications of metaverse are built over edge computing-based network architecture. This idea introduced the aspect of 'Revolutionary Ultra-low latency (RULL)' in the metaverse. © 2024 IEEE.

The rising frequency and sophistication of cyberattacks have made real-time malicious IP detection a critical challenge for modern Security Operations Center (SOC). Traditional solutions, such as static blacklists and manual IP reputation checks, are no longer sufficient in today's dynamic threat scenario. To overcome these constraints, we present IP SafeGuard, an AI-driven platform that incorporates multi-source threat intelligence, sophisticated feature engineering, and machine learning (ML)for real-time IP categorization. The framework collects data from AbuseIPDB, VirusTotal, and other sources to compute a Dynamic Threat Score (DTS) for each IP address. It leverages an XGBoost-based classification model to achieve high accuracy and low false-positive rates, even in skewed datasets. Experimental findings indicate the improved performance of IP SafeGuard, with an accuracy of 98.2%, a precision of 97.8%, and a recall of 98.5%. The average detection duration of 45 milliseconds makes it appropriate for real-time SOC integration, enabling automated incident response through Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) alerting and firewall blocking. The framework's modular design assures scalability and adaptability, making it a vital tool for high-volume situations. By overcoming the limits of old approaches and using the power of ML, IP SafeGuard considerably boosts the efficiency and efficacy of current cybersecurity systems. Future work involves expanding the system to enable new threat intelligence sources and studying federated learning for secure and privacy-preserving threat information exchange. © 2013 IEEE.

Sri Lanka is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. However, tourists face various inconveniences due to the obsolescence of facilities. There are various tools designed to solve such problems. But they are scattered in different places and users have to use different tools. The biggest issue in the tourist sector is that travelers are unable to get the most out of their tours since there may be days when a large number of people visit the same location, causing the location to become overcrowded, and preventing tourists from enjoying their visit as anticipated. There are seasons when natural disasters occur, as well as human-centered crises. Also, there are situations when travelers feel helpless because they are unable to find the best tour guide for them. We developed a cost-effective, automatic, and efficient Machine Learning-based recommendation system as a result of this research. Based on past data on tourists and data received from the SLTDA, this research can provide the best trip plan with the tour guide and provide destination news alerts on regular basis. Furthermore, in order to achieve the best accuracy through the system, unique machine learning approaches were used in this study. © 2022 IEEE.

In-class teaching not only concentrates on lecture content delivery but also on maintaining strong mutuality between lecturer-students and student-student. Online lectures are gaining popularity due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the learning-teaching process has become ineffective because existing video conferencing solutions are not intended for academic purposes. This research was conducted to identify the pain points of online education and develop an enhanced software solution. A user survey confirmed that an isolated environment tends to diminish attentiveness during online lectures. Also, it is difficult for teachers to observe the attentiveness of all the students. As a solution, student attentiveness was measured using their facial expressions and collected data shown to lecturers through a virtual student behavioural environment. The physical separation causes students to feel isolated during lectures, which can negatively affect their academic development and social and psychological development. The developed application also provides a virtual group study environment as a feature. According to the results gathered in the user acceptance testing phase, it was found that the attention detection feature helps students keep their attention at a significant level. Further, 9 out of 10 teachers who participated in the testing acknowledged that the simulated student behavioural view could provide a more immersive experience. 71% of students preferred the new collaborative virtual environment, and students further elaborated that the virtual environment was more likely the physical group studies. 72% of students mentioned that the collaborative group study tool helped eliminate isolation during group studies. © 2022 IEEE.
