The discovery of Road Traffic Accident (RTA) patterns is vital to formulate mitigation strategies based on the characteristics of RTA. Various studies have applied association rule mining for RTA pattern discovery. However, limited research has conducted a comparative analysis of RTA patterns in different regions. This work is necessary to identify the similarities and differences of RTA characteristics between different regions, especially the developed and developing countries with different RTA trends in fatality rates. This work explored the application of association rule mining (FP-Growth algorithm) to discover and compare the RTA patterns for developed and developing countries. The Orange Data Mining software is used to discover RTA patterns for Ethiopia (12,317 samples) and the UK (United Kingdom) (1,048,575 samples), representing developing and developed countries. Eventually, findings showed similarities and differences in RTA patterns between Ethiopia and the UK. Road characteristics and conditions are the common factors contributing to RTA severity levels, while other crucial factors include the light condition and speed limit. In conclusion, the discovery of RTA patterns in different regions is beneficial to assist in formulating strategies to reduce the risk of RTA. Future work is necessary to discover the RTA patterns from different perspectives, such as seasonal or periodical variations of RTA patterns.

Middle-Aged and Elderly people today face a variety of health problems as a result of their modern lifestyle, which includes increased work stress, less physical activity, and altered food habits. Because of Complications arising, diabetes has become one of the most frequent, severe, and fatal illnesses around the world. Therefore, inaccurate measurements of blood glucose levels can seriously damage vital organs. Several strategies for long-term glucose prediction have been proposed in the literature. Unfortunately, these methods require the patient to identify their daily activities, which can be error-prone, such as meal intake, insulin injection, and emotional aspects. This paper suggests using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) of 14733 patients, with three assistance factors to predict blood glucose levels independently of other parameters, hence reducing the burden on the patients. To support this an Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Binary Decision Tree (BDT), Linear Regression (LR), Boosting Regression Tree Ensemble (BSTE), Linear Regression with Stochastic Gradient Descent (LRSGD), Stepwise (SW), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Gaussian process regression (GPR) were investigated. The result indicated that The highest classification accuracy of (92.58%) has been achieved by BDT followed by BSTE (92.04%) and GPR (88.59%). The obtained average of root means square error (MSE) was 1.64, 1.67, 1.69, mg/dL for prediction horizon (PH) respectively to GPR, BSTE, and ANN. © 2024 The Author(s)

Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) have demonstrated remarkable performance in classification and regression tasks on RGB-based pathological inputs. The network’s prediction mechanism must be interpretable to establish trust in the clinical routine. One principal approach to interpretation is feature attribution. Feature attribution methods identify the importance of input features for the output prediction. Building on the Information Bottleneck Attribution (IBA) method, we recognize the RGB’s input regions with high mutual information with the network’s output for each prediction. IBA identifies input regions that have sufficient predictive information. In this paper, we introduce "IBATree", a novel approach that combines IBA with decision trees to enhance both the interpretability and accuracy of DNNs in cancer cell classification. Our method leverages the information bottleneck framework to inject noise into feature maps and then isolates the most informative features for model predictions while maintaining high classification performance. We evaluated our proposed approach on three datasets—CNMC, ISBI2016, and BreaKHis—demonstrating competitive accuracy and producing clear interpretations. This makes IBATree particularly suitable for clinical applications, where understanding the rationale behind predictions is crucial. Our results show that IBATree provides reliable predictions and valuable insights into feature importance, paving the way for its application in various biomedical domains.

The increasing demand for bandwidth-intensive network applications, such as video streaming, multimedia, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications, necessitates improved resource management to protect the network without compromising Quality of Service (QoS). Meeting these challenges requires a centralized view of all available network resources. software Defined Networking (SDN), an emerging technology, provides a centralized view and control of network resources. This feature enables administrators to programmatically define and manage network behavior, including routing, making it more flexible and adaptable. This study proposes a QoS-aware routing scheme for SDN that considers available bandwidth, packet delay, and packet loss to determine the optimal routing path. Optimal paths are selected based on meeting predefined threshold criteria. The study concludes by discussing potential directions for future research in this field.

Graph convolutional neural network (GCN) is a powerful deep learning framework for network data. However, variants of graph neural architectures can lead to drastically different performance on different tasks. Model comparison calls for a unifying framework with interpretability and principled experimental procedures. Based on the theories from graph signal processing (GSP), we show that GCN's capability is fundamentally limited by the uncertainty principle, and wavelets provide a controllable trade-off between local and global information. We adapt wavelet denoising filters to the graph domain, unifying popular variants of GCN under a common interpretable mathematical framework. Furthermore, we propose WaveThresh and WaveShrink which are novel GCN models based on proven denoising filters from the signal processing literature. Empirically, we evaluate our models and other popular GCNs under a more principled procedure and analyze how trade-offs between local and global graph signals can lead to better performance in different datasets. © 2023 ACM.

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs), a specialized type of Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks, facilitate critical communications between vehicles such as vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside infrastructures. Owing to the transmission of critical safety messages, the VANETs are prone to various cyberattacks aimed at compromising information such as safety message authenticity. To address VANETs' inherent need for robust safety message authentication, which traditional protocols often lack, Named Data Networking (NDN) appears as an alternative networking architecture, offering enhanced Data packet-level security. Utilizing NDN, this paper proposes a novel Intrusion Detection System (IDS) for VANETs with the precise aim of validating the authenticity of safety messages. To this end, the proposed scheme employs a rule-based approach leveraging vehicular sensor data to determine the integrity of received safety messages. The proposed IDS scheme is implemented and tested in a Python-based NDN-VANET simulation environment and demonstrates a minimum accuracy rate of 95% across various safety message categories.

The neurological condition epilepsy is demanding and even fatal. Electroencephalogram (EEG)-based epilepsy detection still faces various difficulties. EEG readings fluctuate, and different patients have various seizure activity patterns. EEG signal detection is time-consuming and labour-intensive, which puts a strain on medical staff and raises the possibility of erroneous detections. Usually, electrodes are inserted into the scalp or inside the brain for a brief period of time in order to obtain EEG data. It is essential to research efficient cross-patient automatic epilepsy detection techniques. The multi-head self-attention mechanism recognises long-distance dependencies with the same proficiency as it does temporal dynamic correlations between short-term temporal pattern characteristics and sequential relationships. The contextual representations are inputted into a bidirectional long short-term memory network (BiLSTM) so that information can be extracted in both directions. Classification and training are carried out utilising the log SoftMax algorithm. The experiments utilised scalp EEG data from the CHB-MIT database. Sensitivity, specificity, F1-score, and accuracy were computed to be 96.5 percent, 97.04 percent, 96.6 percent, and 96.2 percent, respectively. The results of the experiment show how well the technique works for detecting seizures in several patients utilising multi-channel EEG recordings. The results also demonstrate the method's improved generalisation capabilities and resilience and consistency in collecting seizure patterns. This is particularly critical for the tertiary diagnosis of epilepsy, and the findings indicate that the proposed method significantly improves the accuracy of detection. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Exploring the correlations between medical features is essential for extracting patient health patterns from electronic health records (EHR) data, and strengthening medical predictions and decision-making. To constrain the hypothesis space of pure data-driven deep learning in the context of limited annotated data, a common trend is to incorporate external knowledge, especially knowledge priors related to personalized health contexts, to optimize model training. However, most existing methods lack flexibility and are constrained by the uncertainties brought about by fixed feature correlation priors. In addition, in utilizing knowledge, these methods overlook the knowledge informative for personalized healthcare. To this end, we propose DearLLM, a novel and effective framework that leverages feature correlations deduced by large language models (LLMs) to enhance personalized healthcare. Concretely, DearLLM captures and learns quantitative correlations between medical features by calculating the conditional perplexity of LLMs’ deduction based on personalized patient backgrounds. Then, DearLLM enhances healthcare predictions by emphasizing knowledge that carries unique patient information through a feature-frequency-aware graph pooling method. Extensive experiments on two real-world benchmark datasets show significant performance gains brought by DearLLM. Furthermore, the discovered findings align well with medical literature, offering meaningful clinical interpretations. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). Due to the inherent flaws of BGP protocol, the security of inter domain routing system has been regularly threatened. Since it is difficult to achieve collaborative defense against existing resources and strategies of multiple autonomous systems, this paper designs and organizes them into autonomous system community. Within the community, a precomputing multi-link generation mechanism is proposed based on genetic algorithm. Before the inter domain routing system is attacked, the link set can be generated as complete as possible in advance. Once an attack occurs, the community will quickly select proper precomputing links to replace the failed ones, in order to ensure the stability of inter domain communication. The effectiveness of the mechanism has been proved in function and performance through simulation experiments. © 2022 IEEE.

Interactive dynamic influence diagrams (I-DIDs) are a general framework for multiagent sequential decision making under uncertainty. Due to the model complexity, a significant amount of research has been invested into solving the model through various types of either exact or approximate algorithms. However, there is no tool that allows users to specify the algorithm parameters and visualise the model solutions. In this demo, we develop an interactive I-DID system that implements most of the state-of-art I-DID algorithms and develops a new type of algorithms based on evolutionary computation. In particular, we propose a multi-population genetic algorithm for solving the I-DID models and automate the generation of behavioural models in the solutions. This demo will facilitate the I-DID research development and practical applications, and elicit a new wave of I-DID solutions based on evolutionary algorithms. © 2022 International Foundation for Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems (***).
