With the rising prevalence of smart homes, there's an increasing demand for comprehensive automation solutions to mitigate fire risks, especially when homeowners are absent or in homes with elderly residents. This study focuses on enhancing flame detection techniques, particularly for smaller, hard-to-detect fire sources. A customized Yolov5 neural network was developed to improve detection precision. This enhancement was facilitated using a dataset of over 2,000 images from lab camera observations and online platforms. These images were then manually labeled and clustered for anchor dimensions using the K-means++ algorithm. The CIOU and diou _ nms techniques were integrated to optimize the network's performance. Upon training, the refined model was tested on the Jet Nano, revealing its high efficacy in flame detection.

In this article, we present a faceted search with new strategies that reward users with multiple dimensions or filters to scan. This is to allow users to identify the categories that they want and access the required data quicker, but they also contribute to the overall data fee. The cycle will continue but that does not mean that we should (or might) stop trying to improve our knowledge collection, distribution, and management methods. That is why we believe that filtering information overload is an extremely important issue for better decisions. Although there are numerous search engines, most of them cannot always make the search engines accessible details. To obtain information about a certain subject, searchers must perform inquiries. This information overload problem can be solved by exploratory search technologies. It is transparent and has many apps that can enable users to learn important information and increase their knowledge of the mission. The main contribution of this paper is to examine previous exploratory-based research, the technology and existing implementations used, such as faceted search as a method in which filters are built to restrict the search results. © 2020 IEEE.

Due to the rapid development of image data and the necessity to analyze it to extract meaningful information, heterogeneous systems have gained prominence. One of the most critical aspects of distributed systems is load balancing. When it comes to the distribution of workload in a balanced manner in a cluster, some heterogeneous systems are used for image processing. When workloads are allocated in these systems, the computational power of the processors is not considered. As a result, in these heterogeneous systems for image processing applications, an uneven workload distribution issue is found. A workload distribution programming framework is presented and discussed in this paper. The proposed strategy consists of two parts. As a first step, image data is split into optimal split sizes and distributed across nodes, then the image data is distributed across CPU and GPU in a second step for processing. A heterogeneous environment is created by combining the CPU and GPU. The OpenCL Java bindings are used to set up both the CPU and GPU to run the program. To assess the performance of the suggested technique, certain tests are carried out and compared to current platforms. For image processing applications in heterogeneous clusters, the proposed workload distribution approach distributed image data efficiently. The results of the proposed solution (Hadoop + GPU) show that using an effective workload allocation mechanism in heterogeneous systems reduces average execution time while improving overall application performance. © 2023 Najia Naz et al.

Elections make a fundamental contribution to democratic governance and are very important to select the appropriate person to determine the fate of a nation while a large number of citizens do not trust the ballot-paper-based voting system. As a result, e-Voting is being adopted by various countries throughout the world. With advantages, there are a number of constraints of e-voting systems, a single vulnerability can lead to large-scale manipulations of voting results. Leveraging and intersecting both cutting-edge technologies including biometric and blockchain technology can address the limitations of current e-Voting frameworks. In this research, we analyze the requirements for systems modeling of voting technology and possible opportunities to adopt biometrics and blockchain technology. Based on the requirements analysis, we propose a biometric-enabled and hyperledger fabric-based voting framework to automate identity verification that will ensure transparency and security of electronic voting. We utilize the software architecture analysis method and active reviews for intermediate designs for evaluating the proposed framework. Demonstration indicates the efficiency and quality attributes of architectural design that shall lead us to implement the system in real-world scenarios in future studies. Initially, we develop a Webbased prototype to demonstrate the framework. In future studies, we aim to implement on large scale and evaluate the prototype against the requirements and security standard.

The creation and use of ontologies has become increasingly relevant for complex systems in recent years. This is because of the growing number of use of cases that rely on real-world integration of disparate systems, the need for semantic congruence across boundaries and the expectations of users for conceptual clarity within evolving domains or systems of interest. These needs are evident in most spheres of research involving complex systems, but they are particularly apparent in infrastructure and cities where traditionally siloed and sectoral approaches have dominated, undermining the potential for integration to solve societal challenges such as net zero, resilience to climate change, equity and affordability. This paper reports on findings of a literature review on infrastructure and city ontologies and puts forward some hypotheses inferred from the literature findings. The hypotheses are discussed with reference to the literature and provide avenues for further research on (a) belief systems that underpin non-top-level ontologies and the potential for interference from them, (b) the need for a small number of top-level ontologies and translation mechanisms between them and (c) clarity on the role of standards and information systems in the adaptability and quality of data sets using ontologies. A gap is also identified in the extent that ontologies can support more complex automated coupling and data transformation when dealing with different scales. © 2023 ICE Publishing: All rights reserved.

In recent years, China's high-speed railway has achieved rapid development, and has become the largest and fastest high-speed railway country in the world. By the end of 2023, the operating mileage has reached 159, 000 km, including 45, 000 km of high-speed railway. With the continuous expansion of high-speed railway development scale, the country also attaches more and more importance to railway operation safety. The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that we should accelerate the construction of a modern infrastructure system, transportation equipment system, transportation service system, and transportation governance system, promote the safe, intelligent, green and open development of transportation, and find a new road of transportation modernization with Chinese characteristics. Many scholars have successively proposed high-speed railway perimeter monitoring technology schemes based on various sensor devices. However, due to the diversity of monitoring equipment, uneven data interfaces and unified data standards, centralized testing of high-speed railway perimeter intrusion monitoring technology based on different types and models of sensing equipment has been unable to be carried out, and synchronous testing cannot be conducted in a unified test environment. In order to solve the above problems, this paper carried out research on device interface, data standardization, sample library construction methods and test methods, and compared various high-speed railway perimeter intrusion monitoring technology schemes based on multi-sensor fusion to verify the functional performance and environmental adaptability of various monitoring devices in actual operation scenarios. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

In the age of AI, mobile architectures such as smartphones are still "cold machines"; machines do not feel. If the architecture is able to feel users' feelings and runtime user experience (UX), it will accordingly adapt performance/energy to find the optimal system-operating state that consumes the least energy to satisfy users. In this paper, we will utilize users' facial expressions (FEs) to learn their runtime UX. We know that FEs are the natural and direct way for humans to convey their emotions and feelings. Our study reveals that FEs also reflect UX. Our research for the first time quantifies the link between FEs and UX. Leveraging this link, the architecture will be able to use the front camera to see FEs and feel users' UX. Based on UX, the architecture can appropriately provision computing resources. We propose Vi-energy system to realize the above idea. Our evaluation shows that Vi-energy reduces energy consumption by 52.9% at maximum and secures UX.

There are several definitions for user experience (UX). However, this study unveiled that there are missing components in those definitions. An analysis of user experience definitions shows that the definitions had the elements of time of use and context of use absent in them. These missing components limit and obscure the understanding of user experience. Nevertheless, the inclusion of these components improves the specificity, robustness, uniqueness, and meaningfulness of UX and will provide illumination for the conceptualization, design, evaluation, and modeling of UX. As UX is understood the way it is defined, an all-encompassing definition that comprises the components of time and context of use will therefore be worthwhile. This study reviewed extant related literature and unraveled these gaps and suggested their inclusion in user experience definitions. © 2022 IEEE.

Cooperative co-evolution (CC) is a promising direction in solving large-scale multiobjective optimization problems (LMOPs). However, most existing methods of grouping decision variables face some difficulties when searching in the huge search space. Specifically, the methods of grouping decision variables can be classified into two types, i.e., high-consumption grouping methods and non-consumption grouping methods. On the one hand, the former ones divide the decision variables into different groups based on the correlation analysis between variables, which consume much evaluation. This way may lead to premature convergence within limited computational resources. On the other hand, the later ones allocate the decision variables into sub-groups based on some metrics, e.g., order and size, which consume no evaluation while may cause the search fall into local optima. To alleviate the above issues, this paper proposes a CC-based algorithm with a variable-importance grouping (VIG) method, called VICCA. Firstly, the decision variables are classified into several subgroups according to their importance quantified by a meta-gene construction method. Secondly, a CC strategy is designed to simultaneously optimize all subgroups of decision variables formed by VIG using the differential evolution operator, which aims to accelerate the convergence speed. Thirdly, a global evolutionary strategy is proposed to optimize original decision variable space by the competitive swarm optimizer, aiming to maintain the diversity. Finally, the experiments demonstrate that our proposed VICCA has the significant advantage in solving LMOPs when compared with state-of-the-art evolutionary algorithms.

Indoor positioning is a thriving research area, which is slowly gaining market momentum. Its applications are mostly customized, ad hoc installations;ubiquitous applications analogous to Global Navigation Satellite System for outdoors are not available because of the lack of generic platforms, widely accepted standards and interoperability protocols. In this context, the indoor positioning and indoor navigation (IPIN) competition is the only long-term, technically sound initiative to monitor the state of the art of real systems by measuring their performance in a realistic environment. Most competing systems are pedestrian-oriented and based on the use of smartphones, but several competing tracks were set up, enabling comparison of an array of technologies. The two IPIN competitions described here include only off-site tracks. In contrast with on-site tracks where competitors bring their systems on-site - which were impossible to organize during 2021 and 2022 - in off-site tracks competitors download prerecorded data from multiple sensors and process them using the EvaalAPI, a real-time, web-based emulation interface. As usual with IPIN competitions, tracks were compliant with the EvAAL framework, ensuring consistency of the measurement procedure and reliability of results. The main contribution of this work is to show a compilation of possible indoor positioning scenarios and different indoor positioning solutions to the same problem. © 2023 CCBY.
