The Internet of Things (IoT) revolutionizes smart city domains such as healthcare, transportation, industry, and education. The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is gaining prominence, particularly in smart hospitals and Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM). The vast volume of data generated by IoMT devices should be analyzed in real-time for health surveillance, prognosis, and prediction of diseases. Current approaches relying on Cloud computing to provide the necessary computing and storage capabilities do not scale for these latency-sensitive applications. Edge computing emerges as a solution by bringing cloud services closer to IoMT devices. This paper introduces SmartEdge, an AI-powered smart healthcare end-to-end integrated edge and cloud computing system for diabetes prediction. This work addresses latency concerns and demonstrates the efficacy of edge resources in healthcare applications within an end-to-end system. The system leverages various risk factors for diabetes prediction. We propose an Edge and Cloud-enabled framework to deploy the proposed diabetes prediction models on various configurations using edge nodes and main cloud servers. Performance metrics are evaluated using, latency, accuracy, and response time. By using ensemble machine learning voting algorithms we can improve the prediction accuracy by 5% versus a single model prediction.

Agriculture stands as India's most crucial industry, despite grappling with a 35% annual loss in crop yield attributed to plant diseases. Traditionally, the detection of plant diseases has been a laborious process, hampered by insufficient laboratory infrastructure and expert knowledge. Plant disease detection methods that are automated provide a useful way to expedite the labor-intensive process of keeping an eye on large-scale agricultural fields and recognizing disease symptoms as soon as they appear on plant leaves. Current developments in deep learning (DL) and computer vision have highlighted the benefits of creating autonomous models for plant disease identification based on visible symptoms on leaves. In this study, we propose a novel method for detecting and classifying plant diseases by combining the Emperor Penguin Optimizer (EPO) with a Region Convolutional Neural Network (RCNN). The suggested methodology uses EPO to improve the discriminative power of features extracted from plant pictures, allowing for a more robust and accurate classification procedure. The Classification Region Convolutional Neural Network (RCNN) is used to leverage spatial correlations within the image, allowing for exact disease region localization. The goal of this integration is to increase the overall efficiency and dependability of plant disease detection systems. The investigations made use of the well-known PlantVillage dataset, which comprises 54,305 data of different plant disease types in 38 categories. Furthermore, an analysis was carried out in comparison with similar advanced investigations. According to the experiment results, RCNN-EPO outperformed in terms of classification accuracy, achieving 94.552%. © 2024 IEEE.

In this modern era, traffic congestion has become a major source of negative economic and environmental impact for urban areas worldwide. One of the most efficient ways to mitigate this issue is through traffic prediction. This research field has evolved greatly ever since its inception in the late 70s. Recently, deep neural network models have gained popularity thanks to its predictive power, but despite this, literature surveys of such methods are rare; making it difficult to ascertain the progress of this research field. In this work, we address this issue by presenting an up-to-date survey of deep neural network for traffic prediction. We provide detailed explanations of popular deep neural network architectures used in the traffic flow prediction literatures, categorize and describe the literatures themselves, present an overview of the commonalities and differences among different works, and finally provide a discussion regarding the challenges and future directions for this field.

Manipulator path planning refers to planning the movement trajectory of a manipulator through algorithms and techniques to realize accurate and efficient *** is widely used in industrial production lines,medical surgeries,and other *** sampling-based rapid exploration random tree(RRT) algorithm has been widely used in high-dimensional manipulators due to its probabilistic completeness and outstanding ***,the algorithm is purely random in the sampling session,which leads to the existing RRT planning algorithms still having low planning efficiency and poor path *** solve these problems,this paper proposes a new and improved method,which assigns a cost value to the sampling points and bases the selection of sampling points on the cost value,so that the growth of the path tree can be oriented to the goal point more quickly.A new evaluation metric,i.e.,the average angle of each node in the path,is also designed to evaluate the quality of the path,and the smoother the path is,the more the metric converges to 180°.By comparing our improved RRT algorithm with the original algorithm in several different scenarios,the results show that our improvement possesses shorter running time,shorter path length,and larger average angle of path.

The Impact of Human Aspects on the Interactions Between software Developers and End-Users in software Engineering: A Systematic Literature Review

Context: Research on human aspects within the field of software engineering (SE) has been steadily gaining prominence in recent years. These human aspects have a significant impact on SE due to the inherently interactive and collaborative nature of the discipline. Objective: In this paper, we present a systematic literature review (SLR) on human aspects affecting developer-user interactions. The objective of this SLR is to plot the current landscape of primary studies by examining the human aspects that influence developer-user interactions, their implications, interrelationships, and how existing studies address these implications. Method: We conducted this SLR following the guidelines proposed by Kitchenham et al. We performed a comprehensive search in six digital databases, and an exhaustive backward and forward snowballing process. We selected 46 primary studies for data extraction. Results: We identified various human aspects affecting developer-user interactions in SE, assessed their interrelationships, identified their positive impacts and mitigation strategies for negative effects. We present specific recommendations derived from the identified research gaps. Conclusion: Our findings suggest the importance of leveraging positive effects and addressing negative effects in developer-user interactions through the implementation of effective mitigation strategies. These insights may benefit software practitioners for effective user interactions, and the recommendations proposed by this SLR may aid the research community in further human aspects related studies. © 2024, CC BY.

Towards Gradient Equalization and Feature Diversification for Long-Tailed Multi-Label Image Recognition

Multi-label image recognition with convolutional neural networks has achieved remarkable progress in the past few years. However, most existing multi-label image recognition methods suffer from the long-tailed data distribution problem, i.e., head categories occupy most training samples, while tailed classes have few samples. This work firstly studies the influence of long-tailed data distribution on existing multi-label image recognition methods. Based on this, two crucial issues of the existing methods are identified: 1) severe gradient imbalance between head and tailed categories, even though re-balancing strategies are adopted;2) the lack of diversity of tail category training samples. To tackle the first issue, this paper proposes a group sampling strategy to create group- wise balanced data distribution. Meanwhile, a dynamic gradient balancing loss is proposed to equalize the gradient for all categories. To tackle the second issue, this paper proposes a diversity enhancement module to fuse the information across all categories, preventing the network from overfitting tail classes. Furthermore, it also balances the gradient, promoting the discriminability of learned classifiers. Our method significantly outperforms the baseline method and achieves competitive performance with state-of-the-art methods on VOC-LT and COCO-LT datasets. Extensive ablation studies are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the essential proposals. © 1999-2012 IEEE.

Next, the owl searchalgorithm (OSA)-based feature selection (OSA-FS) model is used to derivefeature subsets. Then, beetle swarm antenna search (BSAS) algorithm withIterative Dichotomiser 3 (ID3) classification method was implied for ASDdetection and classification. The design of BSAS algorithm helps to determinethe parameter values of the ID3 classifier. The performance analysis of theASDC-OSAML model is performed using benchmark dataset. An extensivecomparison study highlighted the supremacy of the ASDC-OSAML modelover recent state of art approaches.

Emotions play a crucial role in our daily lives, influencing how we face challenges throughout the day and shaping our behavior, even when we are not consciously aware of them. Detecting emotional states in others relies on comprehending the collective impact of a variety of actions that emotions can produce, such as facial expressions, posture, tone of voice, or speech. To address this challenge, we propose a multimodal transformer-based model designed to recognize the emotional moods of individuals using video data, including audio and text transcriptions. Consequently, our model extracts the most relevant information from each modality to make a final prediction. Throughout this work, different fusion architectures have been integrated with transformer-based models to determine the optimal combination. This study examines the performance of individual modalities and their combinations using the CMU-MOSEI dataset. This dataset encompasses preprocessed video, audio, and text data. Our best model achieves a weighted accuracy of 85.59% on this dataset, surpassing previous works for this task.
