Brain networks typically exhibit characteristic synchronization patterns where several synchronized clusters coexist. On the other hand, neurological disorders are considered to be related to pathological synchronization such as excessive synchronization of large populations of neurons. Motivated by these phenomena, this paper presents two approaches to control the cluster synchronization of Kuramoto oscillators. One is based on the use of pacemakers to the clusters, and the other is based on feeding back the mean phases to the clusters. We first show conditions on the pacemaker weights and the feedback gains for the network to achieve cluster synchronization. Then, we propose a method to find optimal feedback gains through convex optimization. A numerical example demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed methods. © 2024 IEEE.

The most valuable resource on the planet is no longer oil,but *** transmission of this data securely over the internet is another challenge that comes with its ever-increasing *** order to transmit sensitive information securely,researchers are combining robust cryptography and steganographic *** objective of this research is to introduce a more secure method of video steganography by using Deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA)for embedding encrypted data and an intelligent frame selection algorithm to improve video *** the previous approach,DNA was used only for frame *** this DNA is compromised,then our frames with the hidden and unencrypted data will be *** the frame selected in this way were random frames,and no consideration was made to the contents of *** data in this way introduces visible artifacts in *** the proposed approach rather than using DNA for frame selection we have created a fakeDNA out of our data and then embedded it in a video file on intelligently selected frames called the complex *** chaotic maps and linear congruential generators,a unique pixel set is selected each time only from the identified complex frames,and encrypted data is embedded in these random *** results demonstrate that the proposed technique shows minimum degradation of the stenographic video hence reducing the very first chances of visual ***,the selection of complex frames for embedding and creation of a fake DNA as proposed in this research have higher peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR)and reduced mean squared error(MSE)values that indicate improved *** proposed methodology has been implemented in Matlab.

Cyber attacks have increased in tandem with the exponential expansion of computer networks and network applications throughout the world. Fortunately, various machine/deep learning models have demonstrated excellent accuracy in predicting network attacks in the literature;nonetheless, having simple and understandable models might be a big benefit in network monitoring systems. In this study, we evaluate four feature selection algorithms to find the minimal set of predictive features of network attacks, seven classical machine learning algorithms, and the deep learning algorithm on one million random instances of the CSE-CIC-IDS2018 big data set for network intrusions. The feature selection algorithms highlighted the importance of features related to forwarding direction (FWD) and two flow measures (FLOW) in predicting the binary traffic type;benign or attack. Furthermore, the results revealed that not all features are required to build efficient ML/DL in detecting network attacks, four features unanimously selected by the feature selection algorithms were enough to build comparable ML models to those trained on all features. This might lead to models that are more suitable for deployment in terms of complexity, explainability, and scalability. Moreover, by selecting four unanimity features instead of all traffic features, the training time may be decreased by 10% to 50%. © 2022. All Rights Reserved.

Finding a barrier-free accessible path through the built environment is necessary for wheelchair users. Researchers have identified the effect of surface vibration on the health of wheelchair users and proposed various solutions to identify and annotate mobility barriers. However, the effects of surface-induced vibration on accessibility are yet to be investigated. In order to address this problem, we present the WheelShare system, which uses machine learning to identify surfaces and curbs from vibration captured by accelerometer and gyroscope sensors (both smartphone and wearable device). WheelShare allows users to share their collected data via crowdsourcing. Based on this surface-specific vibration, we recognize 32 different surfaces found across the built environment (in Austria, China, France, Germany, India, and the USA for 32 human subjects) with an accuracy of 97.5%. The recognized surfaces are then grouped into different categories based on their characteristics. Our novel contributions in this article include the following. 1) We have developed a machine-learning-enabled surface recognition system that uses sensor data to capture surface-induced vibration patterns. 2) We have tested the robustness of the system for devices with only accelerometer data (such as low-end smartphones) and achieved an accuracy of 91.6%. 3) We have deployed our prototype WheelShare system for real-time surface classification in new sites that are unseen in training and testing and successfully recognized the surface characteristics. © 2020 IEEE.

The level of digital transformation is a crucial requirement in all advanced countries, serving as an indicator for evaluation and competition among them. Smart cities and electronic government services are considered key digital transformation outcomes and applications. This research introduces an enhanced and supportive concept for digital transformation and smart cities by transforming physical locations and objects into smart entities. The research proposes providing a digital identity and card for each landmark or place within the city. Additionally, it presents the idea of a smart application that allows individuals to interact with these entities, read information about them, and engage with them. Furthermore, the application can provide data, statistics, and brochures specific to these locations, including visitation numbers, nature, and operating hours. This data significantly supports government decisions in developing these places within the cities. Moreover, the research supports these locations with the concept of smart or digital gates through unique QR codes for each place. A case study is presented to apply the proposed ideas within a dedicated application for the city of Al-Madinah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, focusing on its religious, historical, and touristic landmarks. © 2024 Bharati Vidyapeeth, New Delhi.

Currently, we witness a significantly increased understanding, that disaggregation of data is the key to better-informed decision-making and enactment. The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development prominently stresses the importance of disaggregated data for achieving its goals. We argue that the key benefit of data disaggregation is the increased potential to understand confounding effects. Unfortunately, in today’s tool landscape, it lacks systematic support for understanding confounders. Therefore, in this paper, we contribute as follows. We integrate a means of confounder adjustment, i.e. multiple linear regression adjustment, as a new feature into the data analysis tool GrandReport, which works in mixed mode, i.e. for both numerical and categorical data in parallel. Next, we conduct experiments on an extended air pollutants dataset from several cities. We utilize the tool GrandReportl to investigate the correlation between standardized air quality indices and CO2 levels before and after confounder adjustment in regard with additional city data. Online learning has gained traction over recent years, especially since online education has become more widespread. However, it comes with its own set of challenges of which high dropout is still a major one. Identifying at-risk learners at an early stage is pivotal to offering personalized attention that can potentially prevent them from dropping out from the online courses. This work proposes two methods to analyze students' progress in an online course and subsequently identify dropout prone students. The first method performs fusion of course activity features by concatenating previous weeks' features before training. The second method extracts course activity features from the start date of the courses to a current week instead of concatenating as the first method does. A set of machine learning models and an ensemble framework were trained and tested on these two types of feature sets. On evaluating the models, the benchmark dataset KDDCup15 has been used, where the first method yielded an F1-score 91% while the second method yielded a score 92%. It was observed that both feature fusion methods produce comparable results although we expected that the concatenation of the features over time would produce better results. We also found that using features over a longer duration of time can help in achieving better performance. Further, ensemble model consistently outperformed the base classifiers. © 2022 IEEE.
