In an effort to increase the functional dependence for the visually impaired people, have identified the disadvantages and drawbacks in the present existing solutions and have tried to include the loopholes in the existing systems. Identified and addressed the problems like: object recognition, identification of packaged goods, identification of currency coins and notes, ability to read texts recognize people and faces. This paper provides complete support to the visually impaired friends. The idea of this paper is an augmented reality wearable spectacle along with a wearable smart vision band on the wrist. The Spectacles are equipped with camera, earphones, GPS module and Internet connection (Wi-Fi &4G). The wearable smart vision system contains ultrasonic sensors, IR sensors to recognize the objects that are present before/behind the visually impaired person and can alert using a vibration. The Spectacles and the band are connected using Bluetooth. The outcome of the assistive device should be in the form of audible signal received using the earphones, that can be clearly usable for a visually impaired friend. The strength of the Cold Formed Steel Members (CFS-M) assembly with screws connection has governed the global behavior of CFS Shear Wall Panel (CFS-SWP). Hence, the development of a Finite Element Modeling (FEM) with a reliable simulation taking into account the strength performances of these member assemblies strongly relies on experimental data. In this paper, the strength performances of Cold Formed Steel Member (CFS-M) assemblies in terms of failure modes, strength capacity and nonlinear force–displacement response is investigated through a rigorous experimental program. The results show that varying the thickness and the steel grade results in several failure modes, including CFS-M bearing, tilting and shear screw. Furthermore, increasing the number of screws assembly from one to two screws did not double the strength capacity of the assembly. In addition, a Finite Element Model (FEM) of the CFS-M assembly is developed to simulate and reproduce the assembly’s strength. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The lack of a direct map between control fields and desired control objectives poses a significant challenge in applying quantum control theory to quantum technologies. Here, we propose an analytical framework to precisely control a limited set of quantum states and construct desired coherent superpositions using a well-designed laser pulse sequence with optimal amplitudes, phases, and delays. This theoretical framework that corresponds to a multilevel pulse-area theorem establishes a straightforward mapping between the control parameters of the pulse sequence and the amplitudes and phases of rotational states within a specific subspace. As an example, we utilize this approach to generate 15 distinct and desired rotational superpositions of ultracold polar molecules, leading to 15 desired field-free molecular orientations. By optimizing the superposition of the lowest 16 rotational states, we demonstrate that this approach can achieve a maximum orientation value of |〈cosθ〉|max above 0.99, which is very close to the global optimal value of 1 that could be achieved in an infinite-dimensional state space. This work marks a significant advancement in achieving precise control over multilevel subsystems within molecules. It holds potential applications in molecular alignment and orientation, as well as in various interdisciplinary fields related to the precise quantum control of ultracold polar molecules, opening up considerable opportunities in molecular-based quantum techniques.

Efficient communication between stakeholders is key to successful project planning in the AEC industry. The workflow proposed in the research project BIMFlexi enables interdisciplinary exchange already at the early stages of industrial building planning by using building Information Modeling for integral design of the future production and the building structure. Communication in BIMFlexi is supported by a Virtual Reality platform, BIMFlexi-VR, that provides a multi-user virtual environment in which architects, structural engineers, production planners and production owners can collaboratively change parameters of the planned building and see the resulting changes in the building geometry and various fitness metrics in real-time. This paper discusses the results of the evaluation of BIMFlexi-VR by interdisciplinary teams of professionals from the AEC industry, which identified a strong potential of our platform for interdisciplinary presentation and communication.

The objective of this paper is to provide the low-cost assistive device with localization and mapping of the visually-impaired people. This can be used as plug and play device low power consumption and economical solution to visually-impaired. Further, the smart assistive device will be an integration of computer vision techniques and sensors network which can be validate the sturdiness and consistency of the obstacle recognition and detection modules. Need to test the obstacle detection data and the module is reliant on the collected data from both the smartphone camera and ultrasonic sensors, which will be nourished to the recognition unit to categorize the existing things of the scene. The field of adversarial textual attack has significantly grown over the past few years, where the commonly considered objective is to craft adversarial examples (AEs) that can successfully fool the target model. However, the imperceptibility of attacks, which is also essential for practical attackers, is often left out by previous studies. In consequence, the crafted AEs tend to have obvious structural and semantic differences from the original human-written text, making them easily perceptible. In this work, we advocate leveraging multi-objectivization to address such an issue. Specifically, we reformulate the problem of crafting AEs as a multi-objective optimization problem, where the attack imperceptibility is considered as an auxiliary objective. Then, we propose a simple yet effective evolutionary algorithm, dubbed HydraText, to solve this problem. HydraText can be effectively applied to both score-based and decision-based attack settings. Exhaustive experiments involving 44,237 instances demonstrate that HydraText consistently achieves competitive attack success rates and better attack imperceptibility than the recently proposed attack approaches. A human evaluation study also shows that the AEs crafted by HydraText are more indistinguishable from human-written text. Finally, these AEs exhibit good transferability and can bring notable robustness improvement to the target model by adversarial training. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

This paper presents a distributed software framework for drone swarm applications, focusing on the OWL-Swarm framework. The framework addresses challenges in task allocation and coordination inherent in swarm robotics. It introduces a modular architecture based on the Robot Operating System (ROS), enabling seamless integration of various algorithms and functionalities. The Captain service acts as the central orchestrator, managing mission execution, task allocation, and data sharing among drones. The framework supports both single-drone and collaborative tasks, with mechanisms for distributed scheduling and dynamic task re-allocation. The effectiveness of the framework is demonstrated through use cases involving cooperative obstacle avoidance, coordinated search and target tracking. This study aims to develop a structural health monitoring model that autonomously assesses breathing-type debonds between the base plate and stiffener in lightweight composite structures. The approach utilizes a specifically designed deep learning architecture that employs nonlinear ultrasonic signals for automatic debond assessment. To achieve this, a series of laboratory experiments were conducted on multiple composite panels with and without base plate-stiffener debonds. A network of piezoelectric transducers (actuators/sensors) was used to collect time-domain guided wave signals from the composite structures. These signals, representing nonlinear signatures such as higher harmonics, were separated from the raw signals and transformed into time-frequency scalograms using continuous wavelet transforms. A convolutional neural network-based deep learning architecture was designed to extract discrete image features automatically, enabling the characterization of composite structures under healthy and variable breathing-debond conditions. The proposed deep learning-assisted health monitoring model exhibits promising potential for autonomous inspection with high accuracy in complex structures that experience breathing-debonds. © 2023 by DEStech Publi cations, Inc. Fused silica is an optical glass employed in several industries, which is grinded and polished to obtain ultra-smooth surface by using α-alumina abrasives. Scratch testing is a powerful technique to assess the process conditions that provoke the process induced damages. Applied normal load and velocity on abrasive grain are main influential parameters under consideration. Previously studies on scratching of this glass are mainly focused on mechanical mechanisms, its chemical mechanisms have not been well analysed. In this paper, the Reaxff molecular dynamic simulation is used to study both mechanical and chemical mechanisms in scratching processes under various velocities and forces. The results reveal three distinct phenomena (penetration, penetration with dragging and dragging) in scratching processes. Under the conditions of lower force and velocity, the scratching depth presented small, and the temperature and potential energy were stable during scratching. The chemical interaction between the grain and glass appears as adhesion. Copyright © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

In the context of digitalization in the industry, a variety of technologies has been developed for system integration and enhanced team collaboration in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. Multidisciplinary design requirements are characterized by a high degree of complexity. Early design methods often rely on implicit or experiential design knowledge, whereas contemporary digital design tools mostly reflect domain-specific silo thinking with time-consuming iterative design processes. Yet, the early design stages hold the greatest potential for design optimization. This paper presents a framework of a multidisciplinary computational integration platform for early design stages that enables integration of AEC domain-specific methods from architecture, engineering, mathematics and computer science. The platform couples a semantic integrative mixed reality sketching application to a shape inference machine-learning based algorithm to link methods for different computation, simulation and digital fabrication tasks. A proof of concept of the proposed framework is presented for the use case of a freeform geometry wall. Future research will explore the potential of the framework to be extended to larger building projects with the aim to connect the method into BIM-processes. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
