Most energy exchanges take place through the building skin. The skin characteristics play a decisive role in the extent of these exchanges, but they are somewhat more varied in the double skin façade (DSF). Among these characteristics, cavity segmentation has a noticeable effect on the implementation of the DSF in different directions during the hot and cold seasons. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of DSF segmentation in energy consumption and natural ventilation of high-rise buildings in hot and dry climates. This study used DesignBuilder software to study sixty-four segmentation component scenarios in an eight-story residential building in Isfahan, Iran. Moreover, a proposed hybrid model utilizing the hybridization of the Hunger Game Search and Gradient Boosting (HGS-GB) algorithm was employed to estimate energy consumption in various scenarios involving lighting, heating, cooling, and total scenarios. The available outcomes revealed that the HGS-GB model had a better performance in comparison with other individual models, such as Gradient Boosting (GB), Random Forest (RF), and K-nearest neighbors (KNN). The R2 values for lighting, heating, cooling, and total energy estimation were 0.9993, 0.9958, 0.9991, and 0.9922, respectively. The findings of this study suggest the significance of DSF segmentation in energy consumption and natural ventilation in high-rise buildings in hot and dry climates. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

There are so many areas in Indonesia that are prone to landslides. Bogor is the regency with the most frequent landslides. Therefore, high community preparedness is needed to deal with the landslide, especially at the household level because it is the spearhead of preparedness and influence disaster risk. The objective of this research is to measure and analyze the level of household preparedness for facing landslide. The location of this research is in Cibadak Village, Bogor regency where a landslide disaster had happened. This is a quantitative research. The number of the samples were 100 household. Data collection was done by surveying samples and distributing questionnaires. The data would be analyzed with descriptive analysis, and the results of level of household preparedness would be categorized to five levels which were very prepared (80-100), prepared (65-79), almost prepared (55-64), less prepared (40-54), and not prepared (0-39). The results of the research are the average index value of Knowledge and Attitude (KA) parameter is 66.77, Emergency Planning (EP) parameter is 52.24, Warning System (WS) parameter is 64.80, Resources Mobilization Capacity (RMC) parameter is 51.25 and the level of household preparedness for facing landslide is 59.26 or and it is significant at the almost prepared level. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This study examines the application of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) in precast beam-column joints to improve structural performance. The studied joints included both adequately and inadequately reinforced conditions (strong and weak joints), constructed using UHPC and deformed rebars. The strong joints allowed the rebars to reach their yield strength under the design bending moment, effectively transferring loads and maintaining structural integrity during service conditions. These well-detailed joints exhibited ductile failure behavior, which is a desired characteristic in reinforced concrete design. In contrast, the weak joints experienced premature and brittle failures, underscoring the importance of proper detailing and reinforcement length. Finally, a practical design scheme was developed to determine the appropriate rebar lengths in UHPC connections to ensure structural integrity and safety. Overall, the integration of UHPC into precast concrete joints significantly enhanced bond performance, improved load transfer mechanisms, and contributed to more resilient and reliable construction practices. © 2025 The Authors

Wireless communication has connected millions of people across the world to internet to enable them to reap benefits of digital economy in present scenario. Almost all the sectors of economy including healthcare, agriculture and transportation nowadays rely largely upon wireless communications. In the present context, the sudden outbreak of Covid-19 has caused governments to impose restrictions on various activities and employees have been directed to work from their homes to ensure safety. In such a situation, wireless communication has made it possible to connect with each other via the internet. Apart from this, Smart healthcare-system has been developed through utilisation of wireless communication systems. During this pandemic situation, delivery of healthcare services in remote areas has gained huge momentum and wireless communication plays a vital role in this regard. Aim of current critical assessment is to provide an in-depth analysis of the role played by wireless communication in establishment of a well-structured digital economy in present scenario. In literature-review, different applications of wireless technology via ICT in various sectors and aspects of life have been discussed through a conceptual and a theoretical framework. The Method section of current study has provided an in-depth insight into the ways required information have been collected in this study. As found in the results and discussion section, a positive relation exists between wireless-communication and establishment of digital economy in current situation. This study has concluded that there are certain challenges associated with wireless communication;however, it has significant influence in making processes smarter and faster as compared to earlier. © 2022 IEEE.

Indonesia has a high tendency of having landslides. Bogor is one of regency which is very prone to landslide disaster due to high rainfall. Landslides are a very dangerous threat to public safety. The preparedness can build disaster resilient communities that can support the national resilience. Sociodemographic characteristic and disaster experience are determining factors for the success of preparedness. The purpose of this research is to develop a model of the influence of sociodemographic characteristics and disaster experience toward household preparedness for facing landslide. This research is done in Cibadak Village, Sukamakmur Bogor. This research uses a quantitative approach with 100 sample of households. Multiple linear regression technique is used for analyzing the model. The results of the research showed that household preparedness is significantly influenced by sociodemographic characteristics which is education (p = 0.000), meanwhile age, income and the number of family member don't significantly influence. Beside that the household preparedness is also greatly influenced by disaster experience too (p = 0.000). Education influence on household preparedness for facing landslide as much as 38.81% and the disaster experience is 52.85%. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

During the execution process of construction projects, supervision units often encounter sudden changes during the progress of construction. However, because general supervision man-hours are usually arranged in a flat manner, and it is normally without a response mechanism, it easily leads to final cost increases or surplus manpower. Using private projects as cases, this study adopts the concept of accumulated man-hours to establish a model that allows man-hours and construction progress to correspond with each other, so as to facilitate instant responses by the supervision units and manage the distribution of man-hour costs effectively. Finally, this research presents a Supervisory Strategy Model for Man-hours. This research is mainly divided into four parts. The first part defines the role of supervision according to laws, contracts, construction management systems and supervision unit organization. The second part divides types of supervision into four categories of continuous supervision, intermittent- inspection supervision, periodic supervision, and statutory-inspection supervision. The third part applies a case analysis to establish the corresponding relationship of the cumulative man-hours of supervision and the cumulative progress of a project, as well as to integrate the relationship between the man-hours and construction progress of the supervision business by merging the characteristics of the project timeline. The fourth part constructs a reasonable and safe strategy model that allows active control of the cumulative input ratio of man-hours, so as to facilitate the reasonable allocation and supervision of the total man-hours. © 2021, Chinese Institute of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering. Inner City communities have traditionally been overlooked and often forgotten in the satellite and ground-based remote sensing revolution. For too long, undergraduate minority students from these communities have been marginalized, ostracized, and unprepared to participate in the plethora of remote sensing applications that yet remain new, foreign, and mysterious. Even basic understanding of the amazing tool of remote sensing is unknown to them. These students lack the exposure, the awareness, the understanding, and the engagement in the foray of remote sensing and the unique lens it provides to probe and unearth new ways of gaining knowledge about the environment. To adequately prepare inner-city students to become members of the next generation of geoscientists, to empower and sustain underserved neighborhoods, and to assist in replenishing the geoscience workforce, unique paradigms of teaching and learning about remote sensing are *** the Center for Remote Sensing and Earth System Sciences (ReSESS) at the New York City College of technology (City Tech), remote sensing is being used as a catalyst to attract and to engage students from underserved communities in studying urban climate within their local neighborhoods. Results indicate that this approach of using remote sensing to attract students to urban climate increased awareness and understanding in the geosciences, and it motivated students to share their newfound knowledge in environmental sustainability initiatives with their fellow local citizens.

System conveyance efficiency of the canals is highly important in planning new irrigation development schemes. Enhancing the efficiencies directly influences sustainable agricultural practices. This study, conducted in 2022–2023, assessed conveyance losses in three major irrigation schemes in Sri Lanka: Maduru Oya, Hurulu Wewa, and Minipe Left Bank Canal. The research aimed to quantify current conveyance losses and identify factors influencing efficiency to inform rehabilitation efforts. Field measurements were taken using the float method to determine flow rates at multiple points along selected canals. Conveyance losses were calculated as the percentage difference in flow between measurement points. Results showed significant variations in losses across the three systems: Maduru Oya averaged 27.8% (standard deviation (SD) = 6.03%), Hurulu Wewa 26.5% (SD = 20.4%), and Minipe Left Bank Canal 33.1% (SD = 15.4%) for the D47 canal and 27.7% (SD = 23.7%) for the D32 canal. Factors observed to influence conveyance losses included canal lining condition, soil texture, and topographical features such as elevation differences between drainage and field canals. The study concludes that targeted rehabilitation efforts, particularly increased lining in high-loss areas and improved maintenance in tail-end sections, could substantially improve system efficiency. These findings provide crucial data for irrigation planners and policymakers in Sri Lankan agriculture. © 2025 The Authors.

Profenofos is a widely used organophophorous pesticide for several crops and is detected in drinking water sources. This study investigated the degradation of profenofos using vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) compared with ultraviolet (UV). The factors affecting the degradation performance including pH, profenofos concentration, bicarbonate, nitrate, nitrite, natural organic matter (NOM), and aeration were examined. Profenofos removal efficiencies were 84% and 52% by VUV and UV after 7 min of irradiation, respectively (Initial profenofos concentration of 2 mg/L). Degradation of profenofos by VUV were 3 times faster than UV. The degradation rates decreased with increasing initial profenofos concentration. Direct photolysis at 185 nm and OH • played major roles for profenofos removal by VUV. Aeration enhanced the profenofos degradation and mineralization by VUV but not UV. Bicarbonate inhibited the profenofos degradation while nitrate (≤50 mg-NO 3 - /L) acted as a photosensitizer enhancing profenofos degradation. NOM from groundwater and surface water sources also inhibited the profenofos removal by VUV as high as 39% compared to deionized water. However, NOM promoted the profenofos removal by UV because degradation by OH • formed via NOM photolysis became the main degradation mechanism. The result of profenofos degradation under isolated NOM fractions elucidated that hydrophobic fractions had less inhibition compared to hydrophilic fractions. Identified products suggested the pathway of profenofos photodegradation were the breaking of the O-P bond and reduction of Br. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Microwave synthesis of zeolite X from bituminous fly ash and its characterization

This research studied the synthesis of zeolite X from bituminous fly ash (BFA) using microwave heating process. The Si and Al was extracted from BFA using 3 M NaOH at 75 °C for 24 h and adjusted the molar ratio of Si/Al in the filtrate with Na 2 AlO 3 solution. The synthesis temperature of the filtrate (65–115 °C), time (10–90 min) and NaOH concentration (0–3 M) were investigated. QXRD results showed that zeolite X were obtained at the highest quantity of 91.8% under the microwave heating at 95 °C for 60 min without the addition of NaOH during the preparation of Na 2 AlO 3 solution. BET analysis showed that the surface area of the synthesized zeolite X was 288.9 m 2 /g with pore volume and size of 0.156 cm 3 /g and 2.16 nm, respectively. SEM images reveals the appearance of octahedral crystal of zeolite X with the presence of minimal amount of irregular shape of zeolite X.
