Magnetic fluids are nanocolloids made up of nanometer-sized ferromagnetic particles dispersing in a carrier liquid (typically comprises three parts: base carrier liquid, surfactant, and ferromagnetic particles). Since the particles are easier to agglomerate, ferromagnetic particles are typically coated with surfactants to prevent agglomeration. Magnetic nanoparticles are uniformly disseminated in the carrier liquid with the assistance of surfactants, which play a crucial role in the magnetic fluid composition. Li et al. systematically studied the coating state and colloidal stability of oleic acid (OA) and 3-(N,N-Dimethylmyristylammonio) propanesulfonate (DP) coated magnetite nanoparticles in the polar and apolar carrier liquid. The total Gibbs interfacial energy was analyzed based on Van Oss-Chaudhry-Good and DLVO theory to describe the behaviors of coated particles in solvents. Zang et al. studied the effect of different fatty acids as surfactants on the rheological properties of magnetic fluids. The results showed that the mixed fatty acids showed greater viscosity growth and a greater slope of the viscosity growth curve than the magnetic fluids dispersed with a single acid. This indicates that the mixed fatty acids have more stable rheological properties. The viscousity-temperature performance of kerosene-base magnetic fluids at low temperatures can be improved by adjusting the ratio of mixed fatty acids. The most typical application of magnetic liquids is sealing, which has the outstanding advantages of zero leakage, long life and low resistance. Magnetic fluid seals as a class of non-contact sealing technology have been a research focus. In order to solve the problem of the pole shoes in the ferrofluid seal are easily damaged under the situation of the large radial beating of the main shaft. Enhancing traffic efficiency and alleviating(even circumventing) traffic congestion with advanced traffic signal control(TSC) strategies are always the main issues to be addressed in urban transportation systems. Since model predictive control(MPC) has a lot of advantages in modeling complex dynamic systems, it has been widely studied in traffic signal control over the past 20 years. There is a need for an in-depth understanding of MPC-based TSC methods for traffic networks. Therefore, this paper presents the motivation of using MPC for TSC and how MPC-based TSC approaches are implemented to manage and control the dynamics of traffic flows both in urban road networks and freeway networks. Meanwhile, typical performance evaluation metrics, solution methods, examples of simulations,and applications related to MPC-based TSC approaches are reported. More importantly, this paper summarizes the recent developments and the research trends in coordination and control of traffic networks with MPC-based TSC approaches. Remaining challenges and open issues are discussed towards the end of this paper to discover potential future research directions.

Bridge the Present and Future: A Cross-Layer Matching Game in Dynamic Cloud-Aided Mobile Edge Networks

Cloud-aided mobile edge networks (CAMENs) allow edge servers (ESs) to purchase resources from remote cloud servers (CSs), while overcoming resource shortage when handling computation-intensive tasks of mobile users (MUs). Conventional trading mechanisms (e.g., onsite trading) confront many challenges, including decision-making overhead (e.g., latency) and potential trading failures. This paper investigates a series of cross-layer matching mechanisms to achieve stable and cost-effective resource provisioning across different layers (i.e., MUs, ESs, CSs), seamlessly integrated into a novel hybrid paradigm that incorporates futures and spot trading. In futures trading, we explore an overbooking-driven aforehand cross-layer matching (OA-CLM) mechanism, facilitating two future contract types: contract between MUs and ESs, and contract between ESs and CSs, while assessing potential risks under historical statistical analysis. In spot trading, we design two backup plans respond to current network/market conditions: determination on contractual MUs that should switch to local processing from edge/cloud services;and an onsite cross-layer matching (OS-CLM) mechanism that engages participants in real-time practical transactions. We next show that our matching mechanisms theoretically satisfy stability, individual rationality, competitive equilibrium, and weak Pareto optimality. Comprehensive simulations in real-world and numerical network settings confirm the corresponding efficacy, while revealing remarkable improvements in time/energy efficiency and social welfare. Introducing GyroSym: a single-wheel robot

In this paper, GyroSym, a compact highly-stable single-wheel robot is introduced. Symmetrical flywheels have been used as its stabilization mechanism to keep the wheel upright. Thanks to the type of the flywheel used, the dynamic equations of the robot is simplified, the torque needed to tilt the spin axis is reduced, and the space is drastically minimized. Besides, a centrifugal clutch is used to smooth the motion of the robot in forward motion. Two controllers, fuzzy and fuzzy-Padé, were implemented based on their ability to stabilize the robot. Although both prevented the GyroSym from falling over, neither can entirely cancel out the effects of nonlinear behaviors that is present in the response, represented as high-frequency low domain noise. However, fuzzy-Padé demonstrated more efficient functionality, response, and mathematical simplicity which made it a perfect choice for stabilizing the GyroSym. Experimental results of a prototype have validated that of the mathematical analysis and simulations. © 2019, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Data Augmentation and the Improvement of the Performance of Convolutional Neural Networks for Heart Sound Classification

The effective management and early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are crucial to bring down the mortality associated these diseases. Because detecting CVDs can be a difficult task, especially when no symptoms are present, developing systems that can detect CVDs or heart abnormalities automatically has attracted significant research attention in recent times. For this purpose, several convolutional neural networks (CNNs) learned using heart sound signals (i.e., the phonocardiogram or PCG) have been proposed. Generally, CNNs require a high volume of annotated training data to achieve high performance. However, annotated PCG (i.e., PCGs labelled as abnormal or normal) dataset is not sufficient for training CNNs. To address this issue, the classification performance of CNNs need to be improved, so that they can be trained even on an insufficient PCG database. In this study, we consider two data augmentation (DA) methods: window slicing with spectrogram, which slices a single PCG to generate multiple signals and transforms the signals into spectrogram data;the other is a synthetic spectrogram based generative adversarial network, which generates synthetic data. To demonstrate the validity of the two DA methods, we performed experiments concerning heart sound detection and discussed the results of the experiments in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. © 2022, IAENG International Journal of Computer Science. Dear Editor,Although effective vaccines and antiviral therapies are available,hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection is still a serious global health *** HBV infection remains the principal cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).HBV is a small DNA virus,owning a~3.2 kb genome that encodes several proteins:viral DNA polymerase,core antigen(HBcAg),E antigen(HBeAg),three surface antigens(PreS1/PreS2/HBsAg),and a regulatory X protein(HBx)(Lamontagne et al.,2016).X protein,named for its lack of homology with any known proteins,is a 154 aa protein that plays an essential role in HBV biology and regulates the development of HCC(Yang et al.,2022).Although previous studies have strongly expanded our understanding of HBx,the regulation of HBx is not completely elucidated.

Automatic program repair plays a crucial role in the software development and implementation. While deep learning-based approaches have made significant progress, one inherent challenge is the inefficiency in code representation, which hampers accurate patch generation. Furthermore, the training data used by these data-driven approaches may be limited, and they may not be able to capture the subtle differences between vulnerabilities and patches. To address these issues, FixGPT, we propose a three-tier deep learning model in the study. Specifically, a generative pre-trained transformer model is designed in the first tier to capture code characteristics and programming patterns. The second tier integrates a generation model based on the structure of neural machine translation, for the purpose of generating potential patches. Finally, a contrast model is introduced in the last tier to differentiate between the vulnerability and the patch. We also incorporate the Byte Pair Encoding approach to reduce the search space by converting identifiers into subwords. Detailed experimental studies have been carried out to evaluate the performance of FixGPT on two well-known benchmarking datasets: QuixBugs and Defects4J. The results demonstrated significant improvements in the effectiveness and accuracy in comparison with existing solutions. We complement these findings through the analysis of two case studies.

In this letter, we propose a control scheme for regulating the voltage in Direct Current (DC) power networks. In contrast with other works in the literature where the loads are assumed to be constant, we consider uncertain time-varying loads described as the outputs of nonlinear dynamical exosystems with uncertain parameters. Based on the output regulation methodology, the proposed control scheme ensures the robust stability of the overall network and achieves voltage regulation in presence of impedance (Z), current (I), and power (P) loads. The simulation results illustrate excellent performance of the proposed control scheme.
