Synthesis of chitosan-based grafting magnetic flocculants for flocculation of kaolin suspensions

A series of novel chitosan-based magnetic flocculants FS@CTS-P(AM-DMC)was prepared by molecular structure *** characterization results showed that FS@CTS-P(AM-DMC)had a uniform size of about 21.46 nm,featuring a typical core-shell structure,and the average coating layer thickness of CTS-P(AM-DMC)was about 5.03 ***@CTS-P(AM-DMC)exhibited excellent flocculation performance for kaolin suspension,achieved 92.54% turbidity removal efficiency under dosage of 150 mg/L,pH 7.0,even at high turbidity(2000 NTU)with a removal efficiency of 96.96%.The flocculation mechanism was revealed to be dominated by charge neutralization under acidic and neutral conditions,while adsorption and bridging effects play an important role in alkaline *** properties of magnetic aggregates during flocculation,breakage,and regeneration were studied at different pH levels and *** the process of magnetophoretic,magnetic particles collide and adsorb with kaolin particles continuously due to magnetic and electrostatic attraction,transform into magnetic chain clusters,and then further form three-dimensional network magnetic aggregates that can capture free kaolin particles and other chain *** image velocimetry confirmed the formation of eddy current of magnetic flocs and experienced three stages:acceleration,stabilization,and deceleration.

Optimizing battery deployment: Aging trajectory prediction enabling homogenous performance grouping

As battery deployments in electric vehicles and energy storage systems grow, ensuring homogeneous performance across units is crucial. We propose a multi-derivative imaging fusion(MDIF) model, employing advanced imaging and machine learning to predict battery aging trajectories from minimal initial data, thus facilitating effective performance grouping before deployment. Utilizing a derivative strategy and Gramian Angular Difference Field for dimensional enhancement, the MDIF model uncovers subtle predictive features from discharge curve data after only ten cycles. The architecture includes a parallel convolutional neural network with lateral connections to enhance feature integration and *** on a self-developed dataset, the model achieves an average root-mean-square error of 0.047 Ah and an average mean absolute percentage error of 1.60%, demonstrating high precision and *** robustness is further validated through transfer learning on two publicly available datasets, adapting with minimal retraining. This approach significantly reduces the testing cycles required, lowering both time and costs associated with battery testing. By enabling precise battery behavior predictions with limited data, the MDIF model optimizes battery utilization and deployment strategies, enhancing system efficiency and sustainability.

Optimization design method for components parameter in space station ventilation system based on Flowmaster simulation

Due to the challenges of adjustment after installation and the elevated failure rate associated with the use of electric valves,which contributes to increased weight among other issues,single-hole restrictors(SHRs)are commonly employed within the ventilation system of the manned space *** restrictors are pre-configured with parameters to ensure that the airflow at the termination of the ventilation system meets the designated ***,given their inability to be modified post-installation,a preliminary optimization design process becomes *** solutions relying solely on experience are insufficient in precise and optimal *** computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations offer accurate results,they encounter difficulties in modeling larger systems and are time-intensive due to multiple iterative ***,an optimizing design method through quicker Flowmaster simulations is proposed in this *** the Functional Mock-up Interface(FMI)protocol,the ventilation system model established in Flowmaster could be exported as FMU files and fine-tuned within Python using a genetic algorithm(GA),swiftly achieving a well-balanced ventilation system design by adjusting the parameters of the *** findings from CFD calculations can corroborate the simulations conducted in *** vents’unbalanced factor and the pressure drops of the system are used as optimization *** optimization,the system unbalanced factor and total pressure drop were 5.51%and 5.99 Pa,respectively,both of which are better than the results obtained using CFD through empirical and trial-and-error methods,and the computation time was reduced by 99.16%.

Coalition formation problem: a capability-centric analysis and general model

Coalition formation(CF) refers to reasonably organizing robots and/or humans to form coalitions that can satisfy mission requirements, attracting more and more attention in many fields such as multirobot collaboration and human-robot collaboration. However, the analysis on CF problems remains *** provide a valuable study reference for researchers interested in CF, this paper proposed a capabilitycentric analysis of the CF problem. The key problem elements of CF are firstly extracted by referencing the concepts of the 5W1H method. That is, objects(who) form coalitions(what) to accomplish missions(why) by aggregating capabilities(how) in a specific environment(where-when). Then, a multi-view analysis of these elements and their correlation in terms of capabilities is proposed through various logic diagrams, structure charts, etc. Finally, to facilitate a deeper understanding of capability-centric CF, a general mathematical model is constructed, demonstrating how the different concepts discussed in this analysis contribute to the overall model.

Boosting oxygen vacancies by modulating the morphology of Au decorated In_(2)O_(3)with enhanced CO_(2)hydrogenation activity to CH_(3)OH

CO_(2)hydrogenation to methanol has become one of the most promising ways for CO_(2)utilization,however,the CO_(2)conversion rate and methanol selectivity of this reaction still need to be improved for industrial *** we investigated the structure-activity relationship for CO_(2)conversion to methanol of In_(2)O_(3)-based catalysts by modulating morphology and decorating *** different Au/In_(2)O_(3)catalysts were prepared,their activity follow the sequence of Au/In_(2)O_(3)-nanosphere(Au/In_(2)O_(3)-NS)>Au/In_(2)O_(3)-nanoplate(Au/In_(2)O_(3)-NP)>Au/In_(2)O_(3)-hollow microsphere(Au/In_(2)O_(3)-HM).Au/In_(2)O_(3)-NS exhibited the best performance with good CO_(2)conversion of 12.7%,high methanol selectivity of 59.8%,and large space time yield of 0.32 g CH_(3)OH/(hr·gcat)at 300℃.The high performance of Au/In_(2)O_(3)-NS was considered as the presence of *** contributes to the creation of more surface oxygen vacancies,which further promoted the CO_(2)adsorption and facilitated CO_(2)activation to form the formate intermediates towards *** work clearly suggests that the activity of In_(2)O_(3)catalyst can be effective enhanced by structure engineering and Au decorating.

Groupers and moray eels (GME) optimization: a nature-inspired metaheuristic algorithm for solving complex engineering problems

As engineering technology advances and the number of complex engineering problems increases, there is a growing need to expand the abundance of swarm intelligence algorithms and enhance their performance. It is crucial to develop, assess, and hybridize new powerful algorithms that can be used to deal with optimization issues in different fields. This paper proposes a novel nature-inspired algorithm, namely the Groupers and Moray Eels (GME) optimization algorithm, for solving various optimization problems. GME mimics the associative hunting between groupers and moray eels. Many species, including chimpanzees and lions, have shown cooperation during hunting. Cooperative hunting among animals of different species, which is called associative hunting, is extremely rare. Groupers and moray eels have complementary hunting approaches. Cooperation is thus mutually beneficial because it increases the likelihood of both species successfully capturing prey. The two predators have complementary hunting methods when they work together, and an associated hunt creates a multi-predator attack that is difficult to evade. This example of hunting differs from that of groups of animals of the same species due to the high level of coordination among the two species. GME consists of four phases: primary search, pair association, encircling or extended search, and attacking and catching. The behavior characteristics are mathematically represented to allow for an adequate balance between GME exploitation and exploration. Experimental results indicate that the GME outperforms competing algorithms in terms of accuracy, execution time, convergence rate, and the ability to locate all or the majority of local or global optima. © The Author(s) 2024.

Downstream characteristics of extended flat plate trailing edge on S809 wind turbine blade under various turbulent intensities

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effect of downstream characteristics of S809 wind turbine blade with various extended flat plate (EFP) configuration. Wind farms are recently modified to improve the power production through placing number of wind turbines and locations. Design/methodology/approach: A series of wind tunnel experiments were carried out to evaluate the downstream wake characteristics of the S809 airfoil attached with various EFP (EFP, A = 0.1C, 0.2C and 0.3C) at various angles of attack corresponding to free stream velocity Reynolds number (Re) = 2.11 × 105 and various turbulence intensity (TI = 5%, 7%, 10% and 12%). Findings: For the S809 wind turbine blade attached with EFP, the downstream velocity ratio decreases with increasing in angle of attack and the velocity deficit decrease with increasing turbulence intensity (TI) up to TI = 10%. The wake intensity for the S809 wind turbine blade and S809 airfoil with 10% of chord EFP performs the same for each downstream location. Practical implications: Placing the wind turbine in the wind park next to another wind turbine poses a potential challenge for the park power performance. This research addresses the characteristics of the downstream turbulence intensity profile modified with the EFP in the wind turbine blade which improves the downstream characteristics of the turbine in the wind park. Originality/value: The downstream velocity ratio decreases with increasing angle of attack and the velocity deficit decrease with increasing turbulence intensity (TI) up to TI = 10%. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Enhanced hydrolytic removal of tylosin in wastewater using polymer-based solid acid catalysts converted from polystyrene

Antibiotic production wastewater usually contains high concentrations of antibiotic residues,which can cause instability and deterioration of biological wastewater treatment units and also domestication and proliferation of antibiotic-resistance *** effective pretreatment on antibiotics production wastewater is expected to selectively reduce the concentration of antibiotics and decrease the toxicity,rather than mitigate organic and other contaminants before further *** this work,two polymer-based solid acids,PS-S and CPS-S bearing high concentrations of-SOH_(3)groups (up to 4.57 mmol/g),were prepared and successfully used for hydrolytic mitigation of 100 mg/L tylosin within 20 *** co-existence of high concentrations of COD and humic substances did not affect the mitigation of tylosin obviously,while more than 500 mg/L of nitrogenous compounds suppressed the hydrolytic *** and reuse experiments showed that the solid acids performed well in five cycles after *** transformation products (P1,P2 and P3)were identified using UPLC-QTOF-MS/*** moieties including mycarse,mycaminose,and mycinose detached and released simultaneously or in order from the 16-member lactone ring through desugarization,which led to a dramatic decrease in antibacterial activity as revealed by cytotoxicity evaluations using *** estimation indicated the acute toxicities of the hydrolyzed products to model species (e.g.,fish,daphnid and green algae) were classified as“not harmful”.This work suggested an effective and selective method to pretreat tylosin-contained production wastewater by using polymer-based solid *** results will shed light on effective elimination of antibiotics pollution from pharmaceutical industries through strengthening the pretreatments.
