Dynamic Performance Prediction in Batch-Based Assembly System with Bernoulli Machines and Changeovers

Worldwide competition and diverse demand of customers pose great challenges to manufacturing enterprises. How to organize production to achieve high productivity and low cost becomes their primary task. In the mean time, the rapid pace of technology innovation has contributed to the development of new types of flexible automation. Hence, increasing manufacturing enterprises convert to multi-product and small-batch production, a manufacturing strategy that brings increased output, reduced costs, and quick response to the market. A distinctive feature of small-batch production is that the system operates mainly in the transient states. Transient states may have a significant impact on manufacturing systems. It is therefore necessary to estimate the dynamic performance of systems. As the assembly system is a typical class of production systems, in this paper, we focus on the problem of dynamic performance prediction of the assembly systems that produce small batches of different types of products. And the system is assumed to be characterized with Bernoulli reliability machines, finite buffers, and changeovers. A mathematical model based on Markovian analysis is first derived and then, the analytical formulas for performance evaluation of three-machine assembly systems are given. Moreover, a novel approach based on decomposition and aggregation is proposed to predict dynamic performance of large-scale assembly systems that consist of multiple component lines and additional processing machines located downstream of the assemble machine. The proposed approach is validated to be highly accurate and computationally efficient when compared to Monte Carlo simulation.

Distributed Nash equilibrium for pursuit-evasion game with one evader and multiple pursuers

This paper investigates the pursuit-evasion problem involving one evader and multiple pursuers with limited sensing capability, where the evader tries to maximize the distance with the pursuers, while the pursuers have different objectives based on whether they can receive the information of the evader. The subgroup of pursuers who can observe the evader(called leaders) tries to be close to the evader, and the other subgroup of pursuers(called followers) tries to synchronize with their neighbors. When the subgraph formed by all leaders is complete, sufficient conditions are given to guarantee that the pursuers capture the evader and the pursuit-evasion game composed of the evader and leaders reaches Nash equilibrium. Furthermore, for the incomplete subgraph case, the distributed observers are proposed to estimate the relative positions between the evader and all leaders. It is shown that the distributed control strategy based on the observers converges exponentially to the Nash equilibrium solution, and makes the pursuers capture the evader. Finally, simulation examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategies.

Accurate prediction of solar irradiance is crucial for the effective utilization of solar energy. However, in real-world scenarios, complex irradiance patterns and prevalent incomplete data pose challenges to precise forecasting, resulting in additional uncertainties and instability. To address these issues, this study proposes a novel irradiance forecasting model that integrates a Mask-Transformer data imputation module and a prediction module centered around the typical patterns representation mechanism. The Mask-Transformer leverages a mask modeling mechanism to model the context of missing data, facilitating accurate estimation of missing values and reducing noise and uncertainty in the input data. The typical patterns representation mechanism comprises a series decomposition module and a feature fusion module, providing the module with the capability to mitigate nonlinearity and nonstationarity in solar irradiance data. This enhancement leads to improved short-term forecasting performance while maintaining long-term forecasting capabilities. Experimental results on two datasets demonstrate that the proposed model exhibits sufficient robustness and accuracy, making it effective in scenarios with incomplete data. © 2005-2012 IEEE.

This paper explores the impact of the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) presence on distribution grid operations, highlighting the challenges they present to conventional pricing strategies due to their dual role as power consumers and suppliers, coupled with their energy storage capabilities. We propose an advanced real-time pricing model for the electricity market, employing a novel distributed bilevel optimization framework. This framework distinguishes between the distribution system operator (DSO) at the upper level and the EVs at the lower level, each aiming to optimize profit margins. The optimization includes power flow constraints at the upper level to ensure efficient operation within safe system limits, while model predictive control (MPC) is used to optimize lower-level EV responses. Additionally, we provide a rigorous convergence analysis of the proposed bilevel optimization method. Detailed convergence studies and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper investigates the optimal tracking performance (OTP) of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) discrete networked control systems (NCSs) under the influence of Denial of Service (DoS) attack, channel noise, and bandwidth constraints. The channel noise is assumed to be additive Gaussian white noise (AWGN). Due to the randomness of DoS attack, a Bernoulli distribution is used for DoS modeling. Utilizing frequency domain analysis methods, coprime factorization, all-pass decomposition, and Youla parameterization, an explicit expression for the optimal tracking performance (OTP) of the system under the two-degree-of-freedom (TDOF) controller is derived. The analysis indicates that non-minimum phase (NMP) zeros, unstable poles (UPs), DoS attack, and network constraints affect the OTP of NCSs. Finally, the theoretical results are validated through simulations of MIMO NCS and vehicle control system. © 2024 IEEE.

With the development of affective computing and computer science, electroencephalogram (EEG) based emotion recognition has attracted much more attention. In this paper, we collected EEG signals from fifteen healthy people and fifteen hearing-impaired people when they were watching five kinds of emotional pictures (fear, anger, sadness, happiness and neutral). The collected EEG signals are preprocessed to remove artifacts by independent component analysis (ICA). Then the differential power spectral density, entropy, and wavelet entropy features were extracted (PSD, DE, WE). The Deep Residual Shrinkage Networks (DRSNs) were composed of residual building units (RBU s) and an attention mechanism was used to capture the representative features, and then made a classification. The classification results prove that using DE as a feature for classification is better than other features, with an average accuracy being 76.35% and 80.47% for the hearing-impaired group and the normal group, respectively. Moreover, from the brain topography, we found that there are certain differences in brain function between hearing-impaired and healthy people. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of automation.

Honing is a finishing process used for the inner cylindrical surfaces of engine blocks or liners. The process involves abrasive particles bonded to the surface of a honing head, which come into contact with the inner bore surface, performing an oscillating and rotational motion. These motions follow a specific pattern, allowing for the creation of crosshatch patterns on the inner bore surface, thereby improving dimensional accuracy, form accuracy and reducing surface roughness. Common honing processes are divided into four distinct phases: material removal, crosshatching, finish honing, and plateau honing. Each phase corresponds to specific tasks such as material removal from the bore, creating crosshatch patterns, honing the peaks in the crosshatch, and final surface finishing. In computer numerical control (CNC)-based honing machine, individual control commands are typically used to manage each of these phases separately. The commands are combined according to process requirements to achieve the desired honing results. To enhance the efficiency of the honing process, this study focuses on the hydraulic feed of the abrasive strips on the honing head, specifically examining the automatic continuous switching between finish honing and plateau honing. The research analyzes the honing principles, develops a control algorithm for dual-process automatic switching, and validates the process through machining tests. Compared to single-process control, the proposed algorithm significantly improves processing efficiency. Additionally, this algorithm can be applied to other dual-process automatic switching controls, providing valuable insights for the design of CNC honing systems. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing.
