This paper considers the problem of constrained stabilization of a two-input buck-boost DC/DC converter by linear state-feedback. It is demonstrated that, via an appropriate change of coordinates, a recent synthesis technique for constrained bilinear discrete-time systems can be applied to an averaged nonlinear model of the converter. Moreover, it is proven that the synthesis method yields a polyhedral constrained control invariant set for the converter model in the original coordinate system. The synthesis algorithm requires solving a single linear program off-line. An extensive simulation case study along with a preliminary, successful real-time experiment, demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

A higher-order model-free adaptive control scheme is proposed for a class of discrete-time SISO nonlinear systems. The control scheme consists of the adaptive control law, parameter estimation law and reset mechanism. The controller design depends merely on the input and the output measurement data of the controlled plant. The proposed scheme can improve the control performance by using more error information derived from previous sampling time instants. The theoretical analysis shows that the proposed control scheme can guarantee the bounded input and bounded output (BIBO) stability. The simulation results further verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract In this paper a modeling method and a control approach is proposed for minimising both travel times and traffic emission on freeways. A simulation-based investigation among emission models is performed to determine the model to be engaged for a model-based control. The chosen model is imposed on a second-order macroscopic traffic model. A constrained LQ control is proposed for optimization. An emission-optimal control and a multicriteria (travel time and emission) optimization are compared to conventional, solely travel-time optimal control. Simulations prove that ramp metering can be used to reduce both emission and travel times on motorways.

A discrete-time adaptive iterative learning control approach (DAILC) is presented for improving the permanent magnet linear motor velocity tracking performance. The learning gain can be updated iteratively along the learning axis and pointwisely along the time axis. When the initial states are random and the reference trajectory and disturbance are iteration-varying, the DAILC can achieve the pointwise convergence over a finite time interval asymptotically along the iterative learning axis. The theoretical analysis and simulation results further verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

In this paper, a new method is proposed to determine parameters of some types of fractional order models to represent a system dynamics using its step response. The model structure is assumed to have rational commensurate order as α=M/N. By this assumption infinite terms of the model step response is converted into finite terms limited to N. The proposed method is practically applicable on all fractional order model structures due to the order approximation imposed by the limited precisions in available computational tools.

controller switching algorithms used for Unfalsified Adaptive control are investigated. The concept of interfalsification, a generalization of the existing ε-hysteresis algorithm, is defined; the concept of self-falsification is introduced; and the two concepts are compared. New controller switching algorithms are designed based on the idea of self-falsification. These algorithms relax the assumption that the cost function be monotonically nondecreasing in time, and are thus more flexible than the existing inter-falsification algorithm. Simulations illustrate that the self-falsification algorithms can be used with non-monotone cost functions.

Evolutionary game theory on dynamical networks has received much attention. Most of the work has been focused on 2×2 games such as prisoner's dilemma and snowdrift, with general n×n games seldom addressed. In particular, analytical methods are still lacking. Here we generalize the stochastic linking dynamics proposed by Wu, Zhou, Fu, Luo, Wang, and Traulsen [PLoS ONE 5, e11187 (2010)] to n×n games. We analytically obtain that the fast linking dynamics results in the replicator dynamics with a rescaled payoff matrix. In the rescaled matrix, intuitively, each entry is the product of the original entry and the average duration time of the corresponding link. This result is shown to be robust to a wide class of imitation processes. As applications, we show both analytically and numerically that the biodiversity, modeled as the stability of a zero-sum rock-paper-scissors game, cannot be altered by the fast linking dynamics. In addition, we show that the fast linking dynamics can stabilize tit-for-tat as an evolutionary stable strategy in the repeated prisoner's dilemma game provided the interaction between the identical strategies happens sufficiently often. Our method paves the way for an analytical study of the multiple-strategy coevolutionary dynamics.
