Region-Aware Grasping for Stacked Workpieces: A 6D-Wise Label Self-Generation Method and Robust Evaluation Strategy

The high-quality datasets and generalized network model combined with robust evaluation strategies serve as a significant benchmark for developing new policies for industrial bin-picking. In this paper, we propose the concept of region-aware grasping, a sim2real cutting-edge system to generate and evaluate 6D poses for robots to pick up novel workpieces from stacked environments. It consists of Region-Aware-Dataset, a large-scale synthetic point cloud grasp dataset; and Semantic-Graspnet, a 6D-wise affordance policy that predicts full 6D grasp pose for stacked workpieces. The introduced Semantic-Graspnet transforms the 6D pose prediction problem into semantic categorization via point cloud encoding and decoding. Meanwhile, we propose a robust evaluation strategy based on pose evaluation and mechanical grasping evaluation, which enhances the robot’s grasping success rate and sorting efficiency. In real industrial tasks, the robot achieves a grasp completion rate of 91.3% in cluttered scenes and 89.2% in densely stacked scenes, demonstrating state-of-the-art results in robotic picking-and-placing applications. Note to Practitioners—This work is inspired by the robotic universal AI technique, which holds an indispensable position in industrial as bin-picking tasks. Leveraging this technology, the robot can proficiently perform picking-and-placing for diverse workpieces. The prior robot grasping policies primarily centered on maximizing the optimization of grasp detection to ensure successful grasping. Nevertheless, limitations still exist regarding efficient datasets, generalized network models, and robust evaluation strategies. Therefore, in order to effectively curtail the development cycle of robot picking-and-placing applications, this paper puts forward a novel region-aware grasping policy for stacked workpieces. Automated wood defect detection is of great significance for improving wood utilization. However, the stains on the wood surface resemble defect features and it is difficult to distinguish the appearance of wane from defect-free regions. Relying solely on machine vision for extracting surface features of wood makes it difficult to achieve accurate defect detection. To address these challenges, we propose MMDNet, a multimodal detection network that combines point cloud and image data. By adaptively fusing point cloud and image features at multiple stages, the network effectively highlights wood surface defect regions. Additionally, we introduce an Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) module into the network, which expands the network's receptive field and enables a comprehensive perception of the defects. Furthermore, we employ a deep supervision strategy to encourage the network to learn discriminative feature representations, enhancing the model's ability to differentiate defect regions. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of our method in detecting defects that are similar to the background and reducing interference from stains.

One of the key concerns in today's steel business is how to effectively save energy and reduce emissions, since the concepts of green environmental preservation, energy conservation, and emission reduction are deeply ingrained in people's hearts. Fuel ratio is a key parameter in blast furnace steelmaking. Identifying the factors that influence the fuel ratio and being able to model and predict it can greatly help in guiding the stable operation of the blast furnace, reducing fuel ratio, saving energy, and cutting emissions. In this paper, the fuel ratio mechanism of blast furnace is analyzed, and the parameters affecting the fuel ratio are initially selected. Subsequently, the parameters with the highest correlation to the fuel ratio are identified using the maximum correlation coefficient method. A CNN-LSTM-Attention-based fuel ratio prediction model was developed, and its accuracy and efficacy were demonstrated through comparison with three other models.

In this paper, flatness-based control theory is developed to enhance the dynamic performance of a multiport energy router. The energy router integrates multiple power sources and sinks, including photovoltaic systems, battery storage, the grid, and various loads. Consequently, any sudden change in a subsystem can induce dynamic conditions across the entire system. The presented method controls the grid-side inverter and regulates the de link voltage. To implement this control approach, the system equations have been established, and it has been demonstrated that the system is differentially flat. Afterward, the controller design has been addressed. The simulation results confirm the proper performance of this method, and the comparisons made validate the high speed and accuracy of the system responses compared to conventional solutions.

Accurate rehabilitation assessments are essential for designing effective rehabilitation methods and helping patients recover better. It's well known that commonly used scale assessment methods for neurorehabilitation suffer from the issue of subjectivity, thus investigation of objective assessment methods is very necessary. Muscle synergy analysis can be uesd to assess limb motor functions from the perspective of neuromuscular control. In this paper, a method for evaluation of human lower limb motor functions based on muscle synergy analysis is presented. Muscle synergy modules are designed using surface electromyography (sEMG) signals of the subjects' lower limbs by non-negative matrix factorizations (NMF). By comparing the cosine similarities of these synergy modules, it can be seen that muscle synergies of healthy subjects and patients are significantly different, while they are similar among healthy subjects. Therefore, a reference synergy module (RSM) is designed by averaging the muscle synergy modules for healthy subjects, and the similarities can be calculated by comparing the synergy modules for healthy subjects or patients with the RSM. In the experiment carried out in this study, average similarities of the three synergy modules for healthy subjects are respectively 0.97166, 0.87368 and 0.84932, and on the other hand, the average similarities for the three synergy modules for patients are respectively 0.59979, 0.56426 and 0.69042. Therefore, the similarities for healthy subjects are much higher than those for SCI patients, which denotes that the similarity between an individual synergy module and the RSM can be used as an objective assessing index for evaluating patients' motor function. © 2022 IEEE.

The research on coherent direction of arrival (DOA) estimation is of great significance for high-precision DOA estimation in complex electromagnetic environments. However, existing coherent DOA estimation methods do not consider the issue of sensor failure that is prone to occur under harsh environments. In this paper, we propose a tensorial Hankel reconstruction method for coherent DOA estimation with sensor failure. Specifically, by analyzing the tensorial Hankel property of complete incoherent covariance tensor, we design the tensorial Hankel mapping rule to reconstruct a Hankel tensor from a slice of incomplete coherent covariance tensor. Meanwhile, the fiber-missing elements caused by sensor failure are dispersed to higher dimensions in the reconstruction process, ensuring the effectiveness of conventional low-rank tensor completion algorithm. Then, the completed Hankel tensor is proven to admit the canonical polyadic model, which can be decomposed to obtain DOA estimations. Simulation results confirm the advantage of the proposed tensorial Hankel reconstruction method. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, a system security problem is studied based on a two-person non-cooperative dynamic game. Security of the system is regarded in the context of observability. Namely a system is secure if it is not observable. Both the defender and attacker are assumed to have means to modify the dimension of unobservable subspace, which is set as the value function. The strategies and algorithms to minimize or maximize the value function are given respectively. Finally, examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms and show some interesting game results, including accumulation mode, loop mode and locked mode.

Currently, the advanced geological prediction for the main tunnel from the parallel tunnel often employs parallel deduction of detection conclusions, which faces issues such as a lack of diverse geological exploration information, a lack of analysis of geological structures and poor accuracy. In this paper, an integrated prediction method for unfavorable geology in main tunnel considering the geological conditions of parallel tunnel is proposed, which consists of three stages. In the first stage, based on the forecast mileage range and tunnel excavation conditions, the process is divided into four specific cases. In the second stage, it deduces the geology of the main tunnel along the orientation of rock strata occurrence or joint to parallel tunnel and selects the results of the rock strata occurrence or joint deduction according to the distance of the deduction. In the last stage, it deduces the geological conditions of parallel tunnel face and the integration of geophysical and drilling information for predictive conclusions based on the four specific cases. The proposed method offers higher prediction accuracy for rock mass integrity and surrounding rock grades compared to parallel deduction method.

The performance of dynamic control is intimately tied to modeling accuracy. However, traditional estimation methods and friction models, such as the least squares method and the Coulomb plus viscous model, fail to reflect the actual characteristics accurately. Particularly, the linear nature of the Coulomb plus viscous model overlooks the nonlinear static features of joint friction at slower velocities. To improve the rationality of the model structure, we integrate the Stribeck friction model into the Coulomb plus viscous model. However, introducing such nonlinearities compromises the applicability of the least squares method. As a countermeasure, we propose a new strategy that combines the least square method and the Quasi-Newton iterative method to identify the parameters of the modified nonlinear model. Additionally, the design of the excitation trajectory is critical to achieve high identification accuracy. We utilized the inverse of the smallest singular value of the observation matrix as the objective function. By minimizing it with the interior point method, we generate the excitation trajectory well-suited to stimulate dynamic characteristics. Then we leverage the discrepancies between the measured and estimated torques to assess the precision of the dynamic parameters of the manipulator. Remarkably, our proposed algorithm reduces the mean absolute error of the estimated torque by over 20.40%. Finally, an experiment of the industrial manipulator by hand guiding grab and drag is performed and shows that the proposed approach can provide the manipulator with comprehensive torque compensation. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper addresses the secure distributed control problem of spacecraft formation flying systems, which are susceptible to malicious eavesdropping attacks from hostile adversaries. A novel secure implementation framework of distributed control is proposed. Firstly, the uniform quantizer is decomposed, and an encoder is developed to convert system states and intermediate control parameters into integers. Then, the sensitive system states are pre-encrypted using the Paillier cryptosystem. Subsequently, an encrypted distributed control scheme is presented, incorporating the encoded and encrypted data. Notably, all data transmitted via the communication network are encrypted. Moreover, the encrypted distributed control law is directly evaluated using the received information from neighboring spacecraft, which maintains data security even when the controller devices are wiretapped. Following this secure implementation framework, the proposed encrypted distributed control law protects the data security of each spacecraft, while enabling effective control coordination.
