Accidents such as fires and chemical leakage, which occur from time to time, seriously endanger public safety. The use of robot to discover and track the source of gas/chemical plume can replace traditional manual search, greatly reducing the risk and cost of search and improving efficiency. Most of the existing gas leakage source search methods are applied in two-dimensional environments, and for the scenarios where the plume is visible, the efficiency of searching and the success rate of source localization only relying on the olfaction is usually low. To this end, this paper proposes a plume finding and tracing method based on olfaction and vision with a drone in 3D outdoor environments. In the plume finding phase, olfactory information is combined with visual object detection in the 3D Spiral algorithm to improve plume finding efficiency. During the plume tracing phase, the drone performs a 3D Zigzag motion to rapidly approach the source of the gas leakage. If the plume is lost during tracing, the 3D Spiral algorithm, which combines olfactory and visual information, is used again in local area with a view to find the plume again. Experimental and simulation results show that the efficiency of plume finding can be significantly improved by using visual object detection for the plume, and the proposed plume finding and tracing method combining olfactory and visual information has high search efficiency and success rate. © 2024 IEEE.

A Novel Approach for Image Encryption with Chaos-RNA

In today’s information society,image encryption technology is crucial to protecting Internet ***,traditional image encryption algorithms have problems such as insufficient chaotic characteristics,insufficient randomness of keys,and insecure Ribonucleic Acid(RNA)*** address these issues,a chaos-RNA encryption scheme that combines chaotic maps and RNA encoding was proposed in this *** initial values and parameters of the chaotic system are first generated using the Secure Hash Algorithm 384(SHA-384)function and the plaintext ***,the Lühyperchaotic system sequence was introduced to change the image’s pixel values to realize block scrambling,and further disturbance is achieved through spiral index sequence to enhance encryption ***,to obtain the final encrypted image,the diffusion is accomplished through different RNA encoding rules and operation rules corresponding to the chaotic sequence generated by an improved one-dimensional chaotic map(1DCM).Here innovatively propose four new RNA operation rules,increasing the difficulty of *** results demonstrate that the normalized pixel change rate(NPCR)and the unified average changed intensity(UACI)values of the tested encrypted images were 99.61%and 33.46%,*** average ciphertext entropy value in the Red Green Blue(RGB)channels were 7.9986,7.991,and ***,this algorithm exhibits a low correlation coefficient and enhanced *** encryption method effectively improves the security and reliability of image encryption compared to other similar techniques.

Output-Feedback Adaptive Neural Network control for Uncertain Nonsmooth Nonlinear Systems With Input Deadzone and Saturation

Nonsmooth nonlinear systems can model many practical processes with discontinuous property and are difficult to be stabilized by classical control methods like smooth nonlinear systems. This article considers the output-feedback adaptive neural network (NN) control problem for nonsmooth nonlinear systems with input deadzone and saturation. First, the nonsmooth input deadzone and saturation is converted to a smooth function of affine form with bounded estimation error by means of the mean-value theorem. Second, with the help of approximation theorem and Filippov's differential inclusion theory, the given nonsmooth system is converted to an equivalent smooth system model. Then, by introducing a proper logarithmic barrier Lyapunov function (BLF), an output-feedback adaptive NN strategy is set up by constructing an appropriate observer and adopting the adaptive backstepping technique. A new stability criterion is established to guarantee that all the signals in the closed-loop system are semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded (SGUUB). Finally, comparative simulations through Chua's oscillator are offered to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm. © 2013 IEEE.

Strain gauge plays vital roles in various fields as structural health monitoring,aerospace engineering,and civil ***,traditional flexible strain gauge inevitably brings the pseudo-signal caused by the substrate temperature effect and determines its ***,we present an anisotropic composite substrate designed to modify the thermal expansion performance via Micro-electro-mechanical System(MEMS)technology,which facilitates the development of strain gauges that are minimally affected by substrate temperature-induced *** to the isotropic flexible substrate,the simulated expansion displacement in the thermal insensitive direction is reduced by 53.6%via introducing an anisotropic thermal expansion *** developed strain gauge exhibits significantly reduced sensitivity to temperature-induced effect,with a temperature coefficient of resistance decreasing from 87.3%to 10%,along with a notable 47.1%improvement in TCR *** addition,the strain gauge displays a sensitivity of 1.99 and boasts a wide strain operational range of 0-6000μe,while maintaining excellent ***,stress response conducted on a model of an aircraft wing illustrates the rapid monitoring of the strain gauge,which can detect strain as low as 100μ*** study strongly highlights the potential applicability of the developed strain gauge in the aircraft,ships,and bridges for monitoring stress.

On Differentiation Among Pilot Signals of Multiple Mobile Targets in Retro-Reflective Beamforming for Wireless Power Transmission

An experimental study is conducted on several retro-reflective beamforming schemes for wireless power transmission to multiple wireless power receivers(referred to herein as“targets”).The experimental results demonstrate that,when multiple targets broadcast continuous-wave pilot signals at respective frequencies,a retro-reflective wireless power transmitter is capable of generating multiple wireless power beams aiming at the respective targets as long as the multiple pilot signals are explicitly separated from one another by the wireless power ***,various practical complications are identified when the pilot signals of multiple targets are not appropriately differentiated from each other by the wireless power ***,when multiple pilot signals are considered to be carried by the same frequency,the wireless power transmission performance becomes heavily dependent on the interaction among the pilot signals,which is highly undesirable in *** conclusion,it is essential for a retro-reflective wireless power transmitter to explicitly discriminate multiple targets’pilot signals among each other.

Near-field Beam Training with Sparse DFT Codebook

Extremely large-scale arrays (XL-arrays) have emerged as one promising technology to improve the spectral efficiency and spatial resolution in future sixth generation (6G) wireless systems. The drastic increase in the number of antennas renders the communication users more likely to be located in the near-field region, which requires a more accurate spherical (instead of planar) wavefront propagation modeling. However, this also inevitably incurs unaffordable beam training overhead when performing a two-dimensional (2D) beam-search in both the angular and range domains. To address this issue, we first introduce in this paper a new sparse discrete Fourier transform (DFT) codebook, which exhibits the angular periodicity in the received beam pattern at the user. This thus motivates us to propose a three-phase beam training scheme. Specifically, in the first phase, we utilize the sparse DFT codebook for beam sweeping in an angular subspace and estimate candidate user angles according to the received beam pattern. Then, a central subarray is activated to scan specific candidate angles for resolving the issue of angular ambiguity for identifying the user angle. In the third phase, the polar-domain codebook is applied in the estimated angle to search the best effective user range. Finally, numerical results show that our proposed beam training scheme enabled by the sparse DFT codebook achieves 98.67% beam training overhead reduction as compared to the exhaustive-search scheme, yet without compromising rate performance in the high signal-to-ratio (SNR) regime. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

The iM2DCT features high scalability and modularity, making it a key component in DC distribution networks. A critical challenge in controlling the iM2DCT is balancing the submodule (SM) capacitor voltages. However, the traditional methods cannot effectively balance the SMs' voltage under non-unity voltage conversion ratio scenarios. To facilitate the iM2 DCT's operation range with balanced SMs' voltage, this paper proposes a novel SM capacitor voltage balancing strategy by assigning the group signal pulses with the negative charge value in the descending order of SM voltage, followed by the distribution of phase-shift pulses with the positive charge value. The effectiveness and feasibility of this strategy are verified using a full-power MATLAB/Simulink model. © 2024 IEEE.

Epoxy resin is widely used in the support,insulation,and packaging components of electrical equipment owing to their excellent insulation,thermal,and mechanical ***,epoxy-resin insulation often suffers from thermal and mechanical stresses under extreme environmental conditions and a compact design,which can induce electrical tree degradation and insulation failure in electrical *** this study,the photoelastic method is employed to investigate the thermal-mechanical coupling stress dependence of the electrical treeing behavior of epoxy *** electrical tree growth morphology and stress distribution were observed using the photoelastic *** correlation between the tree length and overall accumulated damage with an increase in mechanical stress is *** results show that compressive stress retards the growth of electrical trees along the electric field,while tensile stress has accelerating *** proves that the presence of thermal stress can induce more severe accumulated damage.

In robotic-assisted surgery(RAS),traditional surgical instruments without sensing capability cannot perceive accurate operational forces during the task,and such drawbacks can be largely intensified when sophisticated tasks involving flexible and slender arms with small end-effectors,such as in gastrointestinal endoscopic surgery(GES).In this study,we propose a microelectromechanical system(MEMS)piezoresistive 3-axial tactile sensor for GES forceps,which can intuitively provide surgeons with online force feedback during robotic *** MEMS fabrication process facilitates sensor chips with miniaturized *** fully encapsulated tactile sensors can be effortlessly integrated into miniature GES forceps,which feature a slender diameter of just 3.5 mm and undergo meticulous calibration procedures via the least squares *** experiments,the sensor's ability to accurately measure directional forces up to 1.2 N in the Z axis was validated,demonstrating an average relative error of only 1.18%compared with the full-scale *** results indicate that this tactile sensor can provide effective 3-axial force sensing during surgical operations,such as grasping and pulling,and in ex vivo testing with a porcine *** compact size,high precision,and integrability of the sensor establish solid foundations for clinical application in the operating theater.
