A discrete-time looped functional approach and its application to discrete-time systems with cyclically varying delays

This paper investigates the stability analysis problem of discrete-time systems with cyclically varying *** previous studies, the delay investigated in this paper cyclically alternates between increasing and decreasing changes within its upper and lower bounds. First, to reasonably describe the cyclic variation characteristics of the delay, a discretetime looped functional(DTLF) approach and a refined allowable delay set(ADS) are proposed. Then, based on the constructed DTLF with delay-product terms and using matrix-separation-based inequality to estimate its forward difference,delay-variation-interval-dependent stability conditions considering two different ADSs are derived. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the obtained conditions are demonstrated through two numerical examples.

Soft manipulators are known for their superiority in coping with high-safety-demanding interaction tasks, e.g., robot-assisted surgeries, elderly caring, etc. Yet the challenges residing in real-time contact feedback have hindered further applications in precise manipulation. This paper proposes an end-to-end network to estimate the 3D contact force of the soft robot, with the aim of enhancing its capabilities in interactive tasks. The presented method features directly utilizing monocular images fused with multidimensional actuation information as the network inputs. This approach simplifies the preprocessing of raw data compared to related studies that utilize 3D shape information for network inputs, consequently reducing configuration reconstruction errors. The unified feature representation module is devised to elevate low-dimensional features from the system's actuation signals to the same level as image features, facilitating smoother integration of multimodal information. The proposed method has been experimentally validated in the soft robot testbed, achieving satisfying accuracy in 3D force estimation (with a mean relative error of 0.84% compared to the best-reported result of 2.2% in the related works). © 2024 IEEE.

Fast Hybrid Far/Near-Field Beam Training For Extremely Large-Scale Millimeter Wave/Terahertz Systems

In this paper, we consider the problem of downlink beam training for extremely large-scale millimeter wave (mmWave)/Terahertz (THz) systems, where the far-field assumption which treats wavefronts as planar waves may not hold valid. For such hybrid far/near-field channels, beam training needs to identify the best beam alignment on a two-dimensional angle-range domain. An exhaustive search scheme sequentially scanning the entire angle-range space incurs a high training overhead. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose an efficient hybrid far/near-field beam training method. By utilizing the approximate orthogonality of near-field steering vectors of the same effective distance, we devise a multi-directional beam training sequence which can more efficiently scan the entire angle-range space. Based on the devised beam training sequence, we develop a simple estimation method at the receiver that can simultaneously identify the angle and the range associated with the dominant path. Simulation results show that the proposed method achieves better performance than the exhaustive search scheme, while with a much lower overhead cost. The proposed method also presents a clear advantage over other existing state-of-the-art hybrid far/near-field beam training methods in terms of performance and generality. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Pulsed electromagnetic (EM) field signal transfer from a general EM source distribution to a transmission line (TL) is analyzed with the aid of Lorentz's reciprocity theorem. In this fashion, the transient voltage induced by the impulsive EM source is expressed through the EM fields as radiated by the TL. These transmitted EM fields are expressed in closed form using an analytical procedure that resembles the Cagniard-DeHoop (CdH) technique. The validity of the proposed reciprocity-based methodology is verified with the aid of an alternative analytical solution describing the EM field signal transfer excited by an impulsive vertical electric dipole (VED). Illustrative numerical examples are presented. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Deep learning plays increasingly important role in future wireless network management and optimization. Existing training methods such as label-based supervised learning and label-free learning have inherent limitations. The performance of supervised learning is limited by labels, while label-free training methods require extensive exploration. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel mixture of gradients (MoG) method, which integrates gradients from different sources within the training process in order to improve the convergence performance of neural networks (NNs). Particularly, MoG is a modular, plug-and-play solution requiring no structural modifications to existing NNs. Its implementation necessitates only minor modifications to the loss function, where the label-based supervised loss is combined with a label-free loss through weighted summation. The label-free loss can be either unsupervised loss or reinforcement learning loss. This flexibility allows seamless integration into nearly all NN-based methods, making it applicable to a wide range of wireless optimization problems with minimal implementation cost. Extensive simulations across multiple classic wireless scenarios demonstrate that MoG can significantly enhance the performance of NN decision-making, leading to higher transmission rates. © 2014 IEEE.

In this paper, the temperature rise in the longitudinal direction, the heat release rate (HRR), the endless area temperature under the ceiling of the utility tunnel, and the root of HRR (oil and fuel type), cable type, number of cable layers and and cables per layer. The effects of airtightness, natural ventilation, and longitudinal ventilation on the fire characteristics of cable compartments were compared. The results showed that the effects of enclosed cable tunnels and natural ventilation on fire behavior near walls in cable tunnels were compared. Compared with the natural ventilation state, when placing RVVR type cables, the fire duration of the enclosed cable compartment was shorter, the ceiling temperature rise was greater. And the time that was necessary to increase the ceiling temperature to its maximum value was shorter. The HRR inside the enclosed cable compartment was very high and could almost reach its peak quickly. The contribution of this article is to reduce the social and economic costs of utility tunnels by preventing tunnel fires. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). All Rights Reserved.

A survey on hyperspectral image restoration: from the view of low-rank tensor approximation

The ability to capture fine spectral discriminative information enables hyperspectral images(HSIs) to observe, detect and identify objects with subtle spectral discrepancy. However, the captured HSIs may not represent the true distribution of ground objects and the received reflectance at imaging instruments may be degraded, owing to environmental disturbances, atmospheric effects, and sensors' hardware limitations. These degradations include but are not limited to complex noise, heavy stripes, deadlines,cloud/shadow occlusion, blurring and spatial-resolution degradation, etc. These degradations dramatically reduce the quality and usefulness of HSIs. Low-rank tensor approximation(LRTA) is such an emerging technique, having gained much attention in the HSI restoration community, with an ever-growing theoretical foundation and pivotal technological innovation. Compared to low-rank matrix approximation(LRMA),LRTA characterizes more complex intrinsic structures of high-order data and owns more efficient learning abilities, being established to address convex and non-convex inverse optimization problems induced by HSI restoration. This survey mainly attempts to present a sophisticated, cutting-edge, and comprehensive technical survey of LRTA toward HSI restoration, specifically focusing on the following six topics: denoising, fusion,destriping, inpainting, deblurring, and super-resolution. For each topic, state-of-the-art restoration methods are introduced, with quantitative and visual performance assessments. Open issues and challenges are also presented, including model formulation, algorithm design, prior exploration, and application concerning the interpretation requirements.

Franson interference can be used to test the nonlocal features of energy-time entanglement and has become a standard in quantum ***,most of the previous Franson interference experiments were demonstrated in the time domain,and the spectral properties of Franson interference have not been fully ***,we theoretically and experimentally demonstrate spectrally resolved Franson interference using biphotons with different correlations,including positive correlation,negative correlation,and *** is found that the joint spectral intensities of the biphotons can be modulated along both the signal and idler directions,which has potential applications in generating high-dimensional frequency entanglement and time-frequency grid *** work may provide a new perspective for understanding the spectral-temporal properties of the Franson interferometer.

Synthesis of lignite-derived carbon materials for fast sodium-ion storage in a wide temperature range by ultrafast Joule heating

The advancement of sodium-ion batteries is hindered by the imperative to reconcile extreme environmental conditions and high-rate demands, posing challenges in the synthesis of cost-effective and high-performance anode materials. Among the potential candidates, lignite-based soft carbon materials stand out due to their abundant resources and low cost. An ultrafast approach using high-temperature thermal shock pulses is reported for the synthesis of soft carbon anode from lignite, and the mechanism of “adsorption-intercalation-pore filling” is proposed. Based on structure analysis, in/ex-situ electrochemically characterization, and calculation/simulation,high concentration of defects and C=O contents, along with abundant closed pore structures, contribute to enhancing the sodium storage capabilities of the material. The optimized sample demonstrates a substantial reversible capacity of 300.6 m Ah g-1at 0.1C and outstanding high-rate capability at 10.0C, which also maintains proper functionality in a wide temperature range（-40～80°C）. This performance surpasses that of previously reported lignite-based soft carbon materials. Additionally, the assembled full-cell maintains a high-energy density of 235.8 Wh kg-1. This work provides valuable insights into developing anode materials for coal-based SIBs at high-rate current densities in a wide range of temperatures.
