Batik production in home industries needs support wastewater treatment in a limited space. Therefore, a modular-type, lab-scale wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) with a capacity of 87.75 liters and a dimension of 1.5 m × 0.75 m × 1 m has been constructed. The WWTP combines three significant processes: equalization, neutralization, and adsorption. This study focuses on the monitoring systems for the pH neutralization process. The system uses four microprocessors in a master/Slave architecture and the I2C protocols for data communication between processors. The measuring instruments include pH, temperature, turbidity, and flow rate sensors. The actuators consist of submersible and peristaltic pumps. The operating range of pH, temperature, turbidity, and flow rate sensors are 0-14, 25-81.44℃, 0-3000 NTU, and 6.49-20.84 ml/s respectively. The pumps work in Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) mode with an operating range of 125-225 PWM. All sensors and actuators operate linearly within the operating range with a correlation coefficient of 0.97-1. © 2023 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

To connect renewable energy sources (e.g. solar or wind) on the grid, an inverter or electronic converter is used. However, a traditional inverter has no inertia in the face of frequency changes. Unlike the inertia of the rotor of a synchronous generator. Frequency variations are a product of the imbalance between the energy generated and the grid loads. If the frequency is too far from its nominal value or if the rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) is high, it can affect the synchronism of the generators that feed the grid. Therefore, power cuts are made in sectors on the grid, thus preventing instability from spreading to other sectors on the grid, which translates into large economic losses. Solutions such as inverters with virtual inertia (or emulated inertia) are a good alternative due to their structural simplicity and low cost, compared to other solutions such as synchronous condensers, for example. For the virtual inertial control strategy, the grid frequency needs to be measured. This article compares the use of a phase-locked loop (PLL) or a frequency-locked loop (FLL) for frequency estimation and its effect on inertia emulation. This paper proposes a fractional-order PI controller for controlling the steam pressure in the steam drum of a bagasse fired boiler. The dynamics behavior of this process was experimentally identified. This identification procedure yielded an equivalent third order plus time delay model, and showed wide process static gain variations. We therefore propose a new methodology for the design of fractional-order robust controllers for this class of processes. It was shown that the attained controllers significantly outperformed the robustness achieved with current PI controllers. © IFAC.

A not stable mechanical movement transmission between systems produces equilibrium losses, such as a rotor of motors that are coupled in rotating machines. This can be studied as a disturbance "vibration" either as characteristic of the movement transmission due to controlled displacement over rotors, which transmits the movement. Therefore, in this research is presented an analysis for an optimal control of the rotor axis displacement that includes "vibration" as the part of the movement transmission. It implies mathematical modelling and specific sensors selections to correlate the vibration in this control task. Furthermore, in order to verify the proposed analysis, it was simulated and tested in a hybrid magnetic bearing system. © 2022, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). In this proposed research are analyzed general solutions and techniques to optimize the solar luminosity measurement by a designed smart system, as well as its usability by the solar energy conversion and its storing. However, many times, this kind of systems have not an optimal solar path tracker and as a consequence it can not be measured the full solar luminosity during all the day, therefore, in this work are designed optimal mathematical models and algorithms to enhance the solar path tracker according to measure solar luminosity and getting optimal solar energy conversion/storing, which is useful to study geographical conditions before to build solar energy conversion centers. As well as, in this research also is studied and suggested some techniques to get wireless data communication regarding the measured environmental variables, measured solar luminosity and stored electrical energy as a consequence of the solar energy conversion, which can be transmitted, so far away, to a central monitoring center by Radio Frequency (RF) waves. © 2024, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). The objective of this study was to compare and correlate the Portable Ultra Sound (US) measuring technique to the skinfold measuring technique (SF) to estimate body fat percentage (%F) in young adults. Sixty military were evaluated, all males, divided in two groups: Group 1 (normal) composed by 30 military with Body Mass Index (BMI) until 24.99 kg/m 2 and Group 2 (overweight) composed by 30 military with BMI >; 25 kg/m 2 . Weight, height, skinfolds and ultrasound were measured in 9 points (triceps, subscapular, biceps, chest, medium axillary, abdominal, suprailiac, thigh and calf). Body fat average values obtained by skinfold thickness and ultrasound measurements were 13.25 ± 6.32 % and 12.73 ± 5.95 % respectively. Despite significant differences in measurements of each anatomical site, it was possible to verify that the total final body fat percentage calculated by both techniques did not present significant differences and that overweight group presented greater similarity between the values obtained using caliper and ultrasound equipment.

Micro-inverters usually are used to connect photovoltaic panels (PV) to the electricity grid. If the energy provided by the panel is not enough to satisfy the demands, the system becomes dependent exclusively of the grid. This constraint demands the use of a battery bank, therefore it is necessary to add a third port to the micro-inverter to connect this energy backup. In this paper, a two stage micro-inverter is proposed, the first stage is a DC/DC Triple Active Bridge (TAB) converter that integrates a back-up battery and works in soft switching; and the second stage is a Voltage Source Inverter (VSl) that operates in both grid-connected mode (GCM) and Stand Alone Mode (SAM). The grid-multimode operation controller developed detects the islanding fault and maintains the energy quality for a typical nonlinear load. Reliability and robustness of Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS) are increased by the proposed control.

In the electronic engineering undergraduate program, Peruvian universities offer different theoretical courses of Automatic control that do not present enough practical approach to the algorithms that are studied during the progress of these courses; however, the approach to implementation is very important to achieve good performance in the industry and researching. In this work is presented XSpace, an innovative and friendly platform which consists of a robust hardware that allows the student to take it home; this way, the student is given the opportunity to implement digital control algorithms learned in the theoretical classes. The effectiveness of this platform is shown using a proposed methodology which evidences greater interest, efficiency and efficacy in students at the Automatic control area. This project was implemented in the “control Systems” course at Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (PUCP) from 2020 to 2022. Results are presented through a student survey and a history of average grades during the academic periods the platform was employed.

This paper considers the problem of the compensation of an unknown dead zone in the input of a plant. A new compensation method is presented based on the estimation of an equivalent input disturbance (EID). Unlike other methods, this method does not require the exact information of a dead zone. First, we consider the dead zone as an input-dependent disturbance and employ an EID estimator to estimate it. Then, we incorporate the estimate in the control input and compensate the effect of the dead zone almost completely. Simulation results demonstrate the validity of the method. This paper presents the dynamic modelling and end effector position control of a soft endoscope. Soft endoscope system under study consists mainly of a pneumatic driven soft actuator (PDSA) with four independently chambers. Recurrent neural network (RNN) and dynamic back propagation (DBP) training algorithm are used to obtain PDSA dynamic model. PDSA position controller is based on a feedforward neural network (FNN) and it is trained using PDSA closed loop system (CLS) and DBP training algorithm. CLS stability analysis concludes that it is not possible control PDSA end effector position using one position controller for different end effector initial and desired positions. Fuzzy logic methodology is used to integrate several positions controllers in a one controller valid for all operation range. The controller implementation and close loop system simulation are performed in MATLAB for different end effector desired position to validate system performance in all range of operation.
