Thermal analysis of three stator iron-core-less PMBLDC motors considering winding eddy and circulating current losses is investigated. First, the effects of strand diameter, permanent magnet (PM) magnetization and rotating speed on the above mentioned two winding losses and thermal characteristics are investigated by 3D finite element method (FEM). It is found that both strand diameter and rotating speed have great impacts on the temperature rise, Additionally, the temperature rise results for parallel and radial magnetizations are almost identical. Then, influence of eddy and circulating current losses on the thermal characteristics of the three PMBLDC motors are further studied separately. Furthermore, comprehensive study of the two winding losses on the thermal characteristics is carried out. Results show that thermal analysis considering both winding eddy and circulating current losses in parallel thin strands is vital during motor primary design process considering the limited insulation level of wires and PMs. Finally, three prototypes with different combinations of strand diameters and parallel numbers are selected for the temperature rise experiment. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed 3D FEM models and validate the obtained simulation results.

In the field of computer-aided medicine, automated surgical gesture recognition is an important research direction. Its main applications include automated skills assessment, intraoperative guidance, and education and training systems. Current research has focused on robotic surgery, and there is less research on surgical gestures for open surgery. Therefore, in this study, a new simulated open surgery dataset was developed, and a series of surgical gestures for open surgery were defined for closure the abdomen surgery with the cooperation of professional doctors. In addition, this paper uses the classical algorithm 3DCNN and SlowFast model in the field of action recognition to perform offline recognition of surgical gestures for open surgery on the dataset. 3DCNN uses R3D and R(2+1)D models. The experimental results show that on the self-built open surgical dataset, the R3D model has the best surgical gesture recognition results, with an accuracy rate of 90.4%, a precision rate of 90.5%, and a recall rate of 90.0%.

Linear motor has promising application prospects because of its direct motion and thrust output. Linear oscillating motor, whose mover is inserted with a high stiffness spring, can provide high frequency reciprocating motion with high working efficiency. Former research indicates that combination strategy of feedforward control and feedback control has unique advantages on close loop control of high stiffness system. control law of model predictive consists of feedforward and feedback to cope with the high stiffness control system with limited sample time. In this paper, model predictive control (MPC) is introduced to linear oscillating motor (LOM) based state observer. According to the law of MPC, stability analysis is proved and simulation results show that MPC can provide excellent dynamic performance with high control accuracy for LOM. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. In this paper, a novel multi-input multi-output nonlinear model of proton exchange membrane fuel cells air supply subsystem under port-Hamiltonian framework is proposed-based on the segmentation of the cathode flow channel. The model consists of inlet valve, cathode flow channel, and back pressure valve to regulate the air supply. In this model, the valve openings are regarded to be inputs to the air-supply subsystem, and the valve orifices are modeled as a linear approximation from the characteristics curves of the solenoid valves. In addition, the developed model’s energy balance, dissipativity, and passivity properties are proved and discussed in details in this work. Furthermore, a passivity-based control action is designed to track the desired pressures trajectories in port-Hamiltonian framework with explicit stability analysis. Finally, the designed control action can minimize the tracking error of distributed pressures in the segments and also prove the effectiveness of the proposed model, as depicted with simulation results.

This paper introduces a new linear parameterization to the problem of visual inertial simultaneous localization and mapping (VI-SLAM)—without any approximation—for the case only using information from a single monocular camera and an inertial measurement unit. In this problem set, the system state evolves on the nonlinear manifold SE(3)×3n, on which we design dynamic extensions carefully to generate invariant foliations, such that the problem can be reformulated into online constant parameter identification, then interestingly with linear regression models obtained. It demonstrates that VI-SLAM can be translated into a linear least squares problem, in the deterministic sense, globally and exactly. Based on this observation, we propose a novel SLAM observer, following the recently established parameter estimation-based observer (PEBO) methodology. A notable merit is that the proposed observer enjoys almost global asymptotic stability, requiring neither persistency of excitation nor uniform complete observability, which, however, are widely adopted in most existing works with provable stability but can hardly be assured in many practical scenarios. © 2023, CC BY.

Boolean networks, as logical dynamical systems whose system states are Boolean variables, arise from applications in biology, computer networks, and social networks etc. The representation and control of Boolean networks have attracted a lot of attention in recent years. On a parallel line of research, Koopman developed an operator view of nonlinear dynamical systems in early 1930s, which shows that using observable functions all nonlinear dynamics can be represented as (infinite dimensional) linear systems. In this paper, we present a framework for representing Boolean networks via Koopman approach. First of all, we construct addition and scalar multiplication operations over the set of logical functions over the binary field, defining a linear Boolean function space. Then associated with any Boolean mapping, the induced Koopman operator is defined as an operator over such Boolean function space. Next, we show that if there exists a set of logical functions that are invariant in the Koopman sense, a Boolean network can be represented by a finite-dimensional linear system. This Koopman perspective for Boolean networks is also extended to controlled Boolean networks.

Feedback Shaping for Boolean Networks

Boolean networks, as logical dynamical systems where the system states are Boolean variables, arise from applications in biology, computer networks, and social networks etc. In this paper, we present a framework to evaluate whether and how the closed-loop dynamics of a controlled Boolean network can be shaped into any prescribed form by state-feedback control. We refer to this problem as to the feedback shaping for Boolean networks. First of all, based on the linear representation of Boolean networks, we establish a necessary and sufficient rank condition for a controlled Boolean network to be feedback shapable or not. Next, we design an algorithm for the synthesis of closed-loop dynamics for a feedback shapable Boolean network, such that for any given controlled Boolean network and a desired closed-loop dynamics, one can always find a feedback control law so that the closed-loop dynamics is precisely realized.

Several data compressors have been proposed in distributed optimization frameworks of network systems to reduce communication overhead in large-scale applications. In this paper, we demonstrate that effective information compression may occur over time or space during sequences of node communications in distributed algorithms, leading to the concept of spatio-temporal compressors. This abstraction classifies existing compressors as spatio-temporal compressors, with their effectiveness described by constructive stability criteria from nonlinear system theory. Subsequently, we apply these spatio-temporal compressors to standard continuous-time consensus flows and distributed prime-dual flows, establishing conditions ensuring convergence. Additionally, we introduce a novel observer-based distributed primal-dual continuous flow integrated with spatio-temporal compressors, which provides broader convergence conditions. These continuous flows achieve exponential convergence to the global optimum when the objective function is strongly convex and can be discretized using Euler approximations. Finally, numerical simulations illustrate the versatility of the proposed spatio-temporal compressors and verify the convergence of algorithms. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
