As well-known, model predictive control is closely related to optimal control. This paper studies relationships between them and provides a unified framework for optimality analysis of model predictive controllers (MPC). The optimality is evaluated by comparing total performance of MPC with finite and infinite horizon optimal cost. Based on relaxed value iteration method, upper and lower bounds of optimality evaluation functions are expressed explicitly in terms of optimization horizon. These results reveal detailed characteristics on performance of closed-loop MPC systems due to using “receding horizon optimization” implementation style.

This paper studies the robust consensus problem for second-order multi-agent systems with nonuniform time-delays and switching topologies in the presence of external disturbances, where each agent has a self-delay and each delay is independent of each other. A neighbor-based rule is used for the agents with nonuniform time-delays and external disturbances. A sufficient condition is derived under which all agents achieve consensus while satisfying desired H ∞ performance. Finally, the effectiveness of the obtained theoretical results is demonstrated through numerical simulations.

On the basis of the introduction to basic theory of Minkowski sum, we analyze the procedure of constructing the boundary of Minkowski sum and present a new method that can compute Minkowski sum of the polyhedra based on redundant information filtering. The method can filter the edges and facets that can be processed in the next computational stage, and reduce the number of the edges and facets that must be computed to improve the computing performance. The experiments show that the presented method has better performance including computing efficiency, accuracy and degeneration problems and fits for application domains that require high efficient and accurate computation. © 2014 ICIC International.

The main objective of this paper is to describe the application of Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) estimation algorithm to the problem of fault detection and estimation of the sensor failures in the heat exchanger systems. The proposed fault detection is based on innovation sequence implementing UKF which is used to generate residuals when a sensor fault is presented. By evaluating the generated residual, it is possible to see if any problems of sensor have occurred. And the estimated state and decision function are built; the indication of sensor malfunction is achieved by UKF, so makes it possible for us to see where the fault is. Experiments in a heat exchanger have demonstrated the power of this method. The proposed algorithm has evident advantages such as less computation, easy programming, easy application and generalization and so on.

The Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) has attracted a lot of interests for its ability to recover low-grade heat and the possibility to be implemented in decentralized low-capacity power plants. In this paper, a new optimal temperature control method is proposed for ORC systems with non-Gaussian disturbances which influence the quality of exhaust gas. The objective here is to control the speed of the pump so that the superheated vapor temperature follows a target one. It means that the error between those two temperatures is minimized both in magnitude and randomness, which are characterized by mean value and entropy, respectively. Therefore, the proposed control strategy is regarded as a multi-objective optimization problem. To solve this problem, a Multi-Objective Estimation of Distribution Algorithm (MOEDA) is adopted to obtain all the possible optimal control inputs. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

In this paper, the fault classification problem for waste heat recovery system based on support vector machine (SVM) is investigated. Firstly, two-class SVM classification algorithm is reviewed. Then the model and six kinds of faults in waste heat recovery systems (WHRSs) are briefly described. In order to effectively isolate these faults in WHRSs, key features are extracted using principal component analysis (PCA), the multi-class classification problem is then decomposed into five two-class classifiers by using improved one-against-rest approach. Consequently, the SVM classifiers are designed to train and test samples by using collected process variables. The comparison between SVM and back-propagation neural networks applied to a WHRS is discussed. Simulation results demonstrate that SVM can obtain better fault diagnosis performance.

This paper deals with the synthesis of fuzzy controller applied to the induction motor with a guaranteed model reference tracking performance. First, the Takagi-Sugeno （T-S） fuzzy model is used to approximate the nonlinear system in the synchronous d-q frame rotating with field-oriented control strategy. Then, a fuzzy state feedback controller is designed to reduce the tracking error by minimizing the disturbance level. The proposed controller is based on a T-S reference model in which the desired trajectory has been specified. The inaccessible rotor flux is estimated by a T-S fuzzy observer. The developed approach for the controller design is based on the synthesis of an augmented fuzzy model which regroups the model of induction machine, fuzzy observer, and reference model. The gains of the observer and controller are obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs）. Finally, simulation and experimental results are given to show the performance of the observer-based tracking controller.

In this study, the consensus problem for a class of second-order multi-agent systems with nonuniform time delays is investigated. A linear consensus protocol is used to make all agents reach consensus and move with a constant velocity. By a frequency-domain analysis, a simplified sufficient condition is given to guarantee the consensus stability of the dynamic system. Finally, the effectiveness of the obtained theoretical results is illustrated through numerical simulations.

To deeply understand the emergence of cooperation in natural,social and economical systems,we present an improved fitness evaluation mechanism with memory in spatial prisoner's dilemma game on regular *** our model,the individual fitness is not only determined by the payoff in the current game round,but also by the payoffs in previous round bins.A tunable parameter,termed as the memory strength(μ),which lies between 0 and 1,is introduced into the model to regulate the ratio of payoffs of current and previous game rounds in the individual fitness *** μ = 0,our model is reduced to the standard prisoner's dilemma game;while μ = 1 represents the case in which the payoff is totally determined by the initial strategies and thus it is far from the realistic *** numerical simulations indicate that the memory effect can substantially promote the evolution of *** μ < 1,the stronger the memory effect,the higher the cooperation level,but μ = 1 leads to a pathological state of cooperation,but can partially enhance the cooperation in the very large temptation *** current results are of great significance for us to account for the role of memory effect during the evolution of cooperation among selfish players.

Parity space-based fault diagnosis of CCBII braking system

Fault diagnosis is a key issue of the CCBII(computer controlled brake II) braking system, because the CCBII braking system is very complicated and nonlinear, which may exhibit isolated and multi-component coupled faults. A parity space-based method was proposed for fault diagnosis of CCBII braking systems. Firstly, the mathematical models were established according to three function modules of CCBII braking systems where the air fluid theory was utilized. Then, parity vector and threshold function were designed for each output of the system so as to identify more system faults. Fault character matrix was built based on the causal relationship between the output and the fault according to the system function and internal structure. Finally, fault detection and isolation can be realized by the comparison of the observed system output and the fault character matrix. Simulation results show that the proposed method is entirely feasible and effective.
