Dear editor,RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are involved in both transcriptional and post-transcriptional gene regulation, such as RNA splicing and localization. In addition, their dysregulations are closely associated with many diseases [1]. For example, mutations in the RBPs FUS and TDP-43that can cause amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [2].

Personalized and Demand-Based Education Concept: Practical Tools for control Engineers

This paper presents a personalized lecture concept using educational blocks and its demonstrative application in a new university lecture. Higher education faces daily challenges: deep and specialized knowledge is available from everywhere and accessible to almost everyone. University lecturers of specialized master courses confront the problem that their lectures are either too boring or too complex for the attending students. Additionally, curricula are changing more rapidly than they have in the past 10–30 years. The German education system comprises different educational forms, with universities providing less practical content. Consequently, many university students do not obtain the practical skills they should ideally gain through university lectures. Therefore, in this work, a new lecture concept is proposed based on the extension of the just-in-time teaching paradigm: Personalized and Demand-Based Education. This concept includes: 1) an initial assessment of students’ backgrounds, 2) selecting the appropriate educational blocks, and 3) collecting ongoing feedback during the semester. The feedback was gathered via Pingo, ensuring anonymity for the students. Our concept was exemplarily tested in the new lecture"Practical Tools for control Engineers" at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. All-optical analog-to-digital conversion is a paramount issue in modern science. How to implement real-time and ultrafast quantization to optical pulses with different intensities in an all-optical domain is a central problem. Here, we report a realtime demonstration of an all-optical quantization scheme based on slicing the supercontinuum in a nonlinear fiber. In comparison with previous schemes through off-line analysis of the power of different optical spectral components in the supercontinuum, this, to the best of our knowledge, is the first demonstration of such functionality online in the time ***, the extinction ratio among the quantized outputs can exceed 10 d B, which further confirms the feasibility of the proposed quantization scheme. The current 3 bit resolution in the proof-of-principle experiment is limited by the current experimental condition, but it can be expected to be greatly enhanced through improving both the spectral width of the generated supercontinuum and the number of filtering channels used.

We present a simple approach based on photonic reservoir computing(P-RC)for modulation format identification(MFI)in optical fiber *** an optically injected semiconductor laser with self-delay feedback is trained with the representative features from the asynchronous amplitude histograms of modulation *** simulations are conducted for three widely used modulation formats(on–off keying,differential phase-shift keying,and quadrature amplitude modulation)for various transmission situations where the optical signal-to-noise ratio varies from 12 to 26 d B,the chromatic dispersion varies from-500 to 500 ps/nm,and the differential group delay varies from 0 to 20 *** these situations,final simulation results demonstrate that this technique can efficiently identify all those modulation formats with an accuracy of>95%after optimizing the control parameters of the P-RC layer such as the injection strength,feedback strength,bias current,and frequency *** proposed technique utilizes very simple devices and thus offers a resource-efficient alternative approach to MFI.

The article considers a mathematical analysis and computer simulation of total harmonic distortion (THDf)in CMOS differential difference amplifiers (DDA). We have presented THDf's dependence and sensitivity of output voltage in typical DDA circuit to input differential stages (DS)limiting voltage and their static current mode. We have found, that DDA typical circuit's THDf is significantly worse at microamp currents of input CMOS transistors. © 2019 IEEE.

We consider the approach to development of AIS (automated information system) using declarative specifications of database applications (SDA). The specifications of database applications contain all the information about database structure, which is required to build a typical AIS. The information is represented in its pure form, so the specifications are rather concise. The AIS’es are implemented using general algorithms, which are directed by the specifications. We have developed algorithms for such tasks as: user interface generation, query building, report generation, GIS interaction. Using the specifications of database applications and the algorithms the software system GeoARM was implemented. The technology considered was well-tried by use of the system GeoARM for development of several dozens of true-life AIS for different purposes. In this article we’ll describe the approach, that we use for creation of several versions of the GeoARM engine, which use different data access libraries, from the common source code base. The resulting versions of the GeoARM engine allow us to create problem-oriented AIS’es for all the supported platforms from the single SDA. Copyright © 2019 for this paper by its authors.

The paper is devoted to the problem of an end-to-end table transformation from untagged portable documents (PDF) to linked data. It covers the issues of the table extraction from documents, the reconstruction of logical table structure, the conceptualization of their natural-language content, and the linking of extracted data with external vocabularies. We consider some perspective approaches for the deep-learning-based table detection, heuristic-based table structure recognition, rule-based table analysis, and knowledge-based table interpretation. They can be used as a basis to develop a consistent solution for this problem. Our application experience confirms that such solutions are demanded for populating databases and generating ontologies with tabular data being extracted from weakly and semi-structured documents. Today, the operating TAIGA (Tunka Advanced Instrument for cosmic rays and Gamma Astronomy) experiment continuously produces and accumulates a large volume of raw astroparticle data. To be available for the scientific community these data should be well-described and formally characterized. The use of metadata makes it possible to search for and to aggregate digital objects (e.g. events and runs) by time and equipment through a unified interface to access them. The important part of the metadata is hidden and scattered in folder/files names and package headers. Such metadata should be extracted from binary files, transformed to a unified form of digital objects, and loaded into the catalog. To address this challenge we developed a concept of the metadata extractor that can be extended by facility-specific extraction modules. It is designed to automatically collect descriptive metadata from raw data files of all TAIGA formats. © 2019 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.
