We demonstrated that the regular behavior-based architecture can be used to control decentralized multiple robots on a tightly-coupled task. With carefully designed behaviors, the robots can work cooperatively and effectively. We divided the behaviors into two types: individual behaviors and group behaviors. Group behaviors, embedded as layers in the behavior-based architecture, act as a mechanism to induced coordination and synchronization among robots. The tightly-coupled task that we use as our testbed is the cooperative overhead transportation of a box, in which two robots have to carry a box over their tops. Little movement error will result in a fall of the box. The result illustrated the validity of the proposed method. The robots can move the box to a goal without falling down with a success rate of 80%.

The aim of this paper is to give a solution to unbalance problem of the input DC voltages of the nine-level NPC-VSI in dq synchronous frame. For that, we used in high voltage and great power applications, one two-level PWM current rectifier-nine-level NPC VSI cascade. In the first part, we develop a knowledge model of the nine-level NPC VSI and propose a space vector modulation of this converter using eight bipolar carriers. After that, this study shows particularly the problem of the stability of the DC voltages of the inverter. Then, we propose a solution to the problem by employed closed loop regulation using classic PI regulator mode in d-q synchronous frame. We add a clamping bridge to stabilise the multi DC input voltages of the nine-level NPC VSI. This cascade found applications in great power and high voltage fields as electrical traction.

The paper represents a method to develop an automatic speech recognition system for Thai esophageal speaker. Using model adaptation approach, a speech recognition built by normal speech corpus is modified by esophageal speech model based on Hidden Markov Models (HMMs). The aim of the paper is to improve the recognition rate of esophageal speech using two different approach;model adaptation technique and three cepstral normalization technique. The experimental results show that the model adaptation technique can significantly improve the recognition rate of esophageal speech from 12.6% up to 78.1%. Moreover, the recognition rate is raised up to 93.0% when a cepstral normalization technique (CMMN) is combined to the model adaption.

The main objective of this research is to develop a portable speech enhancement device that would sequentially estimate clean speech and re-synthesis a more intelligible speech output for esophageal speaker. To resolve a real time processing problem, we propose a noise reducing algorithm called Adaptive Line Enhancement (ALE) [3][7] with bias model. [8] The method simultaneously reduces noises both from environment (or external noises) and from his/her voice (or internal noises) such as breathing noise, esophageal utterance noise. Incorporating a weighting coefficient bias into a conventional ALE filter, the filter has been proved empirically to perform better than the conventional one. In addition, the method can be applied without neither a laborious pre-training process nor a priori time consuming noise-power estimation.

We combined a rotary machine with a reflecting optical sensor to built a machine that automatically calibrate ruler scales. The optical sensor is mounted on a linear motion rail along the ruler scales It identifies the marked lines on a metal ruler by detecting reflecting light intensity from the lines. Our system then finds distances between lines and counts the number of lines. The measured results were compared with the a reference length obtaining from an encoder of a precise stepping motor to measure the precision of the ruler scale. From the experiment results, the machine is shown to be capable of standard rulers grade 2 calibration. Lastly, the measurement uncertainty of the machine was analyzed.

This paper proposes a single-phase grid-connected inverter for Photovoltaic (PV) systems using a Boost Two-Cell Switching (BTCS) converter based on a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique. Due to nonlinear I-V characteristic of PV cells, the system must include an algorithm to obtain the maximum power from PV cells at any atmospheric condition. The method used in this paper is the incremental conductance (INC) algorithm. The BTCS converter is selected as a power stage with the two-cell semiconductor switching devices controlled to obtain a maximum power from PV cells. The H-bridge inverter provides a sinusoidal current and synchronizes with the grid voltage. The control of the inverter is based on ramp comparison control with constant switching frequency and zero crossing voltage detectors. The experimental results in a test lab showed the effectiveness of the proposed PV system in both constant and rapidly changing in atmospheric conditions.

This research studies the proof of concept to road traffic estimation based on the position and velocity of cellular phones. The positioning technique, received signal strength method, was applied to obtain road traffic data. The two algorithms: Linear interpolation of position from signal strength and centroid of signal strength were implemented to identify the positions and velocity of a mobile phone in cars. Successfully estimated results, position and speed, showed that both of two methods have the potential to estimate traffic congestion while the first method is more efficient than another. According to the first method, it yielded an average error of 190.8 m, while the velocity estimation yielded an average error of 10.38 km/hr. The errors from another are 195.29 m and 10.39 km/hr respectively.

The problem of vehicle detection and segmentation in outdoor scenes is tackled. Vehicle shadows pose problems in vehicle segmentation step. In this paper, it is proposed to employ temporal edge density information as prior knowledge to distinguish moving vehicle from moving shadow and background in a traffic surveillance system. Experimental results showed good moving vehicle segmentation performance. The proposed approach is currently limited to free-flowing traffic scenes.
