The airborne Position and Orientation system (POS) is vital shared equipment, and plays an important role in aerial survey and remote sensing system. It achieves the ability to a direct georeferencing for typical optical camera flash imaging system, and to motion compensation for typical SAR integral imaging system, further improves image quality and efficiency of airborne imaging sensors. In this article, the components and operation principles of POS are summarized. The survey of airborne POS and the development trends of aerial survey and remote sensing system are introduced and analyzed. These analyses can provide reference for development of high-precision airborne POS technologies for aerial survey and remote sensing system. © 2017 IEEE.

We present a technique used for frontal collision warning in an intelligent vehicle. The system uses an image processing algorithm to detect taillights (red brake lights) of vehicles driving at night time. The area of red lights, the size of the largest brake lights, and the vehicle's speed are used to compute the rear-end collision risk, which can be used as an indicator to danger that potentially leads to frontal collision. Therefore, the driver can be warned, and he can perform brake action on time. The algorithm uses a threshold to detect red color on an RGB image. The thresholds are obtained from statistical collection of 50 sample images. From our experiment on real driving situation, the collision risk can predict the actual brakes with 90% accuracy. The result also indicates that the area of red lights detected has a close relationship with the brake applied.

Accurate strip speed measurement is desirable in certain manufacturing industries. This paper presents the recent development in the non-contact measurement of strip speed using electrostatic sensors in conjunction with correlation signal processing techniques. A pair of narrow strip electrodes is used to derive signals from a moving solid surface. The speed of the solid surface is then determined from the known spacing between the electrodes and the time delay between the two signals. Experimental tests were conducted on a motorized cable speed test rig under a range of conditions. An optical tachometer was used as a reference instrument to assess the accuracy of the new strip speed measurement system. Basic sensor design considerations and the advantages and limitations of the method are addressed. Results demonstrate that the technique is capable of measuring strip speed with a relative error no greater than ±1.5% and a repeatability of better than 2%.

We demonstrated that the regular behavior-based architecture can be used to control decentralized multiple robots on a tightly-coupled task. With carefully designed behaviors, the robots can work cooperatively and effectively. We divided the behaviors into two types: individual behaviors and group behaviors. Group behaviors, embedded as layers in the behavior-based architecture, act as a mechanism to induced coordination and synchronization among robots. The tightly-coupled task that we use as our testbed is the cooperative overhead transportation of a box, in which two robots have to carry a box over their tops. Little movement error will result in a fall of the box. The result illustrated the validity of the proposed method. The robots can move the box to a goal without falling down with a success rate of 80%.

We present an improvement of forward collision warning (FCW) by adding more layers of warning functionality based on five stages of crash timeline. Generally, FCW operates at stage 3, the critical moment before crash. The added functionality is the location-based warning (LW) which warns the driver when driving toward a dangerous spot with high speed. LW operates at stage 2, an open condition to crash which comes from bad driving habit. We propose the use of warning lag time as a performance indicator, which is appropriate for real driving experiment. The warning lag time is defined as the time period between the issue of warning and the execution of brake by a normal driver. We performed real driving experiments with normal drivers and compare their brake actions with warnings from our system. The system with FCW alone achieved an average time lag of 1.47 sec., while the system with both FCW+LW can warn the driver faster with average time lag of 1.32 sec. The accuracy of both systems was about the same at 79%.

This paper presents the fuzzy inference-based reinforcement learning algorithm of dynamic recurrent neural network, similar to the psychological learning scheme of the higher animals. The proposed method follows the way linguistic and conceptional expressions have an effect on human's behavior by reasoning reinforcement based on fuzzy rules. The intervals of fuzzy membership functions are found optimally by genetic algorithms. By using the recurrent neural network composed of dynamic neurons as action-generation network, not only the current state but also the past state is considered to make an action in dynamical environment. We show the validity of the proposed learning algorithm by applying it to the inverted pendulum control problem.

We propose a mobile camera system that can be installed on a moving. The system will automatically evaluate traffic levels in the area that the car has been driven through. Our system consists of two parts, the mobile probe and a stationary server. The mobile probe is operated by Android OS smartphone installed in a vehicle, which is used collect GPS data and image sequence of traffic scene from the front of the vehicle. The GPS and image data is periodically transferred to the stationary server via EDGE/3G cellular network. The GPS data is used to find an average space speed, which is used as an indicator to traffic status. The image data is used to recognize and filter out data from parking events, which do not represent traffic status. The level of traffic congestion is displayed in the format of three colors: red, yellow, and green.

This research describes the design and development of firmwares for microcontroller and computer (Matlab-Simulink) interfacing techniques. The firmwares are particularly designed and implemented for real-time measurement, analysis and control applications. They are developed with C language to archive better performance. A C-file of the microcontroller is compiled by the XC16 compiler to generate a HEX-file. While a C-file of the Matlab-Simulink is written as standard s-function of the Matlab and then compiled by Visual Studio 2013 using MEX command in Matlab workspace to generate a MEX-file. A Matlab-Simulink application uses the MEX-file as a core function for exchanging data with the microcontroller. Both of the firmwares are implemented based on Event-driven and Queue-driven techniques to maintain real-time ability and to guarantee that all data flowing over UART (RS-232) are transmitted, received and processed on time. To test and evaluate the firmwares, we develop 4-Channel Data Acquisition (DAQ) and 4-Channel PWM Signal Generator (PSG) running on the microcontroller. And in the Matlab-Simulink, an application for visualizing the signals of the DAQ and controlling the signals of the PSG is developed. The experimental results obviously show that the firmwares can be used for computer-based measurement, analysis and control applications properly.

This paper presents the development of control technique for an internal combustion engine which controls fuel injections for various gasoline/ethanol mixtures. Yamaha motorcycle, Spark 135i, is tested to find the injection timing for E0, E20, E85 and E100, respectivelty. The experiments are conducted with a speed upto 8000 rpm and working load between 0 - 95 percents of the full span in Engine Dynamometer. A signal from an oxygen sensor installed at the exhaust pipe are sent to the fuel injection system and served as a feedback signal, in order to maintain a complete combustion during a testing period. The result shows that the injection timing for E20, E85 and E100 are longer than the one for E0 8.0 percents, 34.2 percents and 44.8 percents. The approximate injection timing at different ethanol ratio can be determined by using these experiments with the error of -6.8 -7.3 percents. In addition, The results can be used to develop an injection control system for flexible fuel.

This paper proposes the design and analysis of repetitive control technique for tracking the output current of active filter. The proportional plus integral (PI) controller performs a feedback control task and the repetitive control law periodically adjusts the input command to the control system to achieve a desired trajectory. In this work, the repetitive control law is designed using optimization in the frequency domain. The method of finding minimum gains for the optimization cost function is also presented in this paper. Simulation results confirm here the performance of the proposed method.
