DC microgrids are becoming more and more popular, however there are still difficulties involving ongoing instability that are mostly caused by imbalances in energy supply and demand, particularly in situations with pulse load or variable pulse load patterns. Innovative solutions are required since these disruptive load dynamics significantly decrease the effectiveness of conventional PV-Battery control systems. conventional Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers, although widely employed, may encounter limitations when confronted with the unique challenges posed by specific load patterns, notably pulse load scenarios. These dynamic load profiles, characterized by rapid and unpredictable changes. The inherent non-linearity and variability in such load conditions can result in suboptimal control performance, potentially leading to voltage instability and transients within the microgrid. To overcome these issues and improve control performance, the introduction of Neural Network (NN) controllers promises to be a potential approach. NN controllers have a remarkable capacity to learn and adapt from data, making them particularly well-suited for situations characterized by non-linear and dynamic load behavior. In this study, a hybrid PI-NN (Proportional-Integral Neural Network) controller is introduced to reduce load effects, especially pulsed loads, in PV systems with batteries and supercapacitors. This method efficiently optimizes energy storage. For voltage control, it utilizes a PI system, which divides the reference current into low and high-frequency components for battery and supercapacitor control. For enhanced sensitivity and dynamic responsiveness, neural network control replaces conventional PIs. The performance of the hybrid PI-NN controller is evaluated in this work, with an emphasis on its potential to improve PV system efficiency in severe load circumstances. © 2023 IEEE.

Emerging advanced and innovative Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), automation strategies, and associated algorithms in the traditional power system have transformed it into a Cyber-Physical Power System (CPPS). Energy management and control are crucial in the Shipboard Power System operation. For instance, to meet the ship's energy and other ancillary demands, especially the mission-critical loads that require practical and secure network communication. Therefore, a comprehensive modeling and testing and validation approach was developed in this paper. This enables flexible system-level aspect evaluation through numerous experiments, including virtual, real, and mixed lab settings. This paper presents a scalable and flexible three-layer cyber-physical co-simulation platform implemented in the FIU smart grid testbed. This includes real-time power system simulation using OPAL-RT, ns3 for communication network emulation, and MATLAB/SIMULINK for implementing various applications. To demonstrate the platform's effective operation, energy management with a central controller for SPS was configured and implemented to test the communication network performance by creating tools to characterize the network latency for this application. © 2023 IEEE.

Lithium-ion batteries are playing a critical role in many applications nowadays, from small-scale electronic devices to grid-scale storage systems. To maintain its continuous operation and increase its life span, the state of charge of the battery should be determined to ensure safe operating conditions. Among the existing charge estimation methods, data-driven models are flourishing these days. This work presents a state of charge estimation for the eFlex 52.8V/5.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack at the Energy systems Research laboratory (ESRL) at FIU. Three different machine learning models were implemented and trained through Python code to achieve the most accurate SoC estimation. Although the three proposed models can efficiently estimate the battery's SoC with an acceptable error percentage, the random forest regression model has proven its outperformance among the selected models with a percentage mean square error less than 0.01. © 2023 IEEE.

With the extensive penetration of distributed renewable energy and self-interested prosumers,the emerging power market tends to enable user autonomy by bottom-up control and distributed *** paper is devoted to solving the specific problems of distributed energy management and autonomous bidding and peer-to-peer(P2P)energy sharing among prosumers.A novel cloud-edge-based We-Market is presented,where the prosumers,as edge nodes with independent control,balance the electricity cost and thermal comfort by formulating a dynamic household energy management system(HEMS).Meanwhile,the autonomous bidding is initiated by prosumers via the modified Stone-Geary utility *** the cloud center,a distributed convergence bidding(CB)algorithm based on consistency criterion is developed,which promotes faster and fairer bidding through the interactive iteration with the edge ***,the proposed scheme is built on top of the commercial cloud platform with sufficiently secure and scalable computing *** results show the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed We-Market,which achieves 15%cost reduction with shorter running *** analysis indicates better scalability,which is more suitable for largerscale We-Market implementation.

AC microgrids may be a target of cyber-attacks such as False Data Injection attack (FDIA) or Denial of Service attacks due to the use of communication technologies. These types of attacks target the communication infrastructure or the control system itself. For instance, FDIAs aim to inject false data into AC microgrids to disrupt the control system. Techniques that detect and mitigate the effect of such attacks are needed. This paper presents an AC microgrid that is structured by parallel inverters and controlled by distributed consensus control strategies to control the frequency and voltage magnitude through active and reactive power. We will investigate the FDIAs effect on the AC microgrid operation. A viable solution to address the FDIA attacks in AC microgrids is developed using an ANN-based reference tracking application to detect and mitigate the attack. The simulation results proved that the proposed strategy could detect and mitigate FDIA attacks especially if the ANN is well trained. © 2023 IEEE.

Power system dynamics have significantly changed with the global integration of renewable energy sources (RESs). Traditionally, the stored kinetic energy is used for compensating the generation mismatch using the rotating mass of the Synchronous Generators (SGs). With the increase in RESs penetration, SGs are being replaced by inverter-based RESs generation systems which are decoupled from the power systems through power converters. Therefore, the total inertia of the system has decreased, and the system's stability is significantly impacted as the value of the rate of change of frequency (ROCOF) and frequency deviations will be increased. To overcome these challenges, inertia emulation from various energy storage systems (ESS) is used to act as a virtual source of inertia power. This work presents an isolated microgrid (MG) that includes conventional power generation sources and RESs, and an optimal virtual inertia (VI) control loop is proposed for frequency stability enhancement. Supercapacitors (SC) bank with a PID controller presents the VI control loop and acts as a supplementary source for inertia power to support the frequency stability of the system. A genetic algorithm (GA) is used as an optimization technique to get the optimal values of the PID controller gains. The performance of the islanded MG with the proposed optimal control scheme is examined under different operating conditions with varying levels of RESs penetration and system parameters uncertainties. The proposed technique showed its effectiveness and robustness over the system's operation without VI control for keeping the system stable under different operating conditions. © 2023 IEEE.

controlled islanding plays an essential role in preventing the blackout of power *** there are several studies on this topic in the past,no enough attention is paid to the uncertainty brought by renewable energy sources(RESs)that may cause unpredictable unbalanced power and the observabilit>T of power systems after islanding that is essential for back-up black-start ***,a novel controlled islanding model based on mixed-integer second-order cone and chance-constrained programming(MISOCCP)is proposed to address these ***,the uncertainty of RESs is characterized by their possibility distribution models with chance constraints,and the requirements,e.g.,system observability,for rapid back-up black-start measures are also ***,a law of large numbers(LLN)based method is em-ployed for converting the chance constraints into deterministic ones and reformulating the non-convex model into convex ***,case studies on the revised IEEE 39-bus and 118-bus power systems as well as the comparisons among different models are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed *** results show that the proposed model can result in less unbalanced power and better observability after islanding compared with other models.

Despite the increasing prevalence of DC microgrids, they encounter instability issues due to imbalances in supply and demand, especially when dealing with specific loads such as pulse load or variable pulse load. The system faces severe changes which reduce the effectiveness of typical PV-Battery control systems. The solution to this problem frequently involves the use of energy storage devices such as supercapacitors SCs. When exposed to transients, batteries risk having their lifespans shortened and are challenged in keeping the stability of DC bus voltage and reducing overall transients. In order to increase the stability of DC microgrids and thereby increase their reliability and resilience, it is possible to combine the advantages of batteries and supercapacitors. Integrating both batteries and supercapacitors effectively enables DC microgrids to manage both steady-state and transient conditions. The main goal of this research paper is to investigate how the hybrid energy storage system (HESS) improves the stability of DC microgrids. According to sets of results, the proposed scheme has successfully reduced DC bus voltage variations regardless of variations in solar irradiance and the different pulsed load profiles. © 2023 IEEE.

In order to carry out risk warning for high-voltage cable transmission system and realize differentiated operation and maintenance decision-making, it is necessary to carry out time series prediction for online monitoring state quantities of high-voltage cables such as load current, partial discharge, and grounding circulating current. Therefore, a joint prediction method for multi-state variables of high-voltage cables based on Gate Recurrent Unit (GRU) is proposed. Taking the online monitoring state quantities of a certain area in central China in May as the analysis data set, a GRU network is built to predict the sequence of multi-state quantities, compared with different models. Taking the phase A load current of a node of the cable as an example to carry out state prediction, the results show that compared with the Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) neural network, back-propagation neural network (BPNN), and Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model, the accuracy of the sequence prediction model based on GRU is Higher. When predicting for 5 min, the MAE and RMSE are 1.94 and 2.65 A, respectively, with the MAPE of 0.54%. When predicting for 30 min, the MAE and RMSE are 9.81 and 15.36 A, respectively, with the MAPE of 2.89%. When predicting for 1 h, the MAE and RMSE are 17.05 and 27.47 A, respectively, with the MAPE of 4.91%. The GRU model performs better due to the suppression on over-fitting of training data with simpler model structure. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Co., Ltd. 2023.
