Available methods for identification of stochastic dynamical systems from input-output data generally impose restricting structural assumptions on either the noise structure in the data-generating system or the possible state probability distributions. In this paper, we introduce a novel identification method of such systems, which results in a dynamical model that is able to produce the time-varying output distribution accurately without taking restrictive assumptions on the data-generating process. The method is formulated by first deriving a novel and exact representation of a wide class of nonlinear stochastic systems in a so-called meta-state-space form, where the meta-state can be interpreted as a parameter vector of a state probability function space parameterization. As the resulting representation of the meta-state dynamics is deterministic, we can capture the stochastic system based on a deterministic model, which is highly attractive for identification. The meta-state-space representation often involves unknown and heavily nonlinear functions, hence, we propose an artificial neural network (ANN)-based identification method capable of efficiently learning nonlinear meta-state-space models. We demonstrate that the proposed identification method can obtain models with a log-likelihood close to the theoretical limit even for highly nonlinear, highly stochastic systems. © 2023, CC BY.

Reinforcement learning(RL) has roots in dynamic programming and it is called adaptive/approximate dynamic programming(ADP) within the control community. This paper reviews recent developments in ADP along with RL and its applications to various advanced control fields. First, the background of the development of ADP is described, emphasizing the significance of regulation and tracking control problems. Some effective offline and online algorithms for ADP/adaptive critic control are displayed, where the main results towards discrete-time systems and continuous-time systems are surveyed, ***, the research progress on adaptive critic control based on the event-triggered framework and under uncertain environment is discussed, respectively, where event-based design, robust stabilization, and game design are reviewed. Moreover, the extensions of ADP for addressing control problems under complex environment attract enormous attention. The ADP architecture is revisited under the perspective of data-driven and RL frameworks,showing how they promote ADP formulation ***, several typical control applications with respect to RL and ADP are summarized, particularly in the fields of wastewater treatment processes and power systems, followed by some general prospects for future research. Overall, the comprehensive survey on ADP and RL for advanced control applications has d emonstrated its remarkable potential within the artificial intelligence era. In addition, it also plays a vital role in promoting environmental protection and industrial intelligence.

To facilitate the coordination between transmission and distribution system operators, accurate equivalent models of power system components are required. Towards this objective, in this paper, a blackbox model is proposed for developing steady-state reduced-order equivalents of active distribution networks (ADNs) that host converter-interfaced renewable energy sources (CI-RES) and operate under various voltage control schemes. Droop-based and traditional voltage control schemes, such as on-load tap changer (OLTC) control strategies and the use of shunt capacitors, are considered. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated via simulations considering various load types and CI-RES penetration levels. Comparisons against the conventional polynomial and exponential models are also conducted, demonstrating the superior performance of the proposed black-box model. © 2024, The Authors. Growing demands in today’s industry results in increasingly stringent performance and throughput specifications. For accurate positioning of high-precision motion systems, feedforward control plays a crucial role. Nonetheless, conventional model-based feedforward approaches are no longer sufficient to satisfy the challenging performance requirements. An attractive method for systems with repetitive motion tasks is iterative learning control (ILC) due to its superior performance. However, for systems with non-repetitive motion tasks, ILC is generally not applicable, despite of some recent promising advances. In this paper, we aim to explore the use of deep learning to address the task flexibility constraint of ILC. For this purpose, a novel Task Analogy based Imitation Learning (TAIL)-ILC approach is developed. To benchmark the performance of the proposed approach, a simulation study is presented which compares the TAIL-ILC to classical model-based feedforward strategies and existing learning-based approaches, such as neural network based feedforward learning.

This paper proposes a decentralized excitation control method based on synchronized estimation using asynchronous measurements from voltage/current transformers (VT/CT), addressing the challenges of decentralized excitation control caused by asynchronous updates. Due to the high cost and limited use of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs), synchronized generator output measurements are often not feasible. The proposed method establishes a framework for decentralized excitation control that aligns with synchronized estimation in multi-machine power systems. It develops an estimation model for synchronized acquisition of excitation control feedback inputs, even under asynchronous sampling conditions. Simulation results using IEEE standard test systems demonstrate that synchronized estimated values offer a more accurate representation of the system’s status compared to asynchronous measurements, with better compatibility with the network structure. The findings show that decentralized excitation control based on synchronized estimation significantly enhances power system stability compared to traditional control methods that rely on asynchronous feedback. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2025.

Linear active disturbance rejection control(LADRC)is a powerful control structure thanks to its performance in uncertainties,internal and external disturbances estimation and *** extended state observer(ESO)based controller is the key to the LADRC *** this article,the LADRC scheme combined with a fractional-order integral action(FOILADRC)is proposed to improve the robustness of the standard *** the robust closed-loop Bode’s ideal transfer function(BITF),an appropriate pole placement method is proposed to design the set-point tracking controller of the FOI-LADRC *** simulations and experimental results on a cart-pendulum system will illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed FOI-LADRC scheme for the disturbance rejection,the set-point tracking and the improved *** illustrate the LADRC control schemes and to verify the performance of the proposed FOI-LADRC,compared to the standard LADRC and IOI-LADRC structures,two tests will be carried ***,simulation tests on an academic example will be presented to show the effect of the different parameters of the control law on the performance of the closed-loop ***,these three control structures are implemented on an experimental test bench,the cart-pendulum system,to show their efficiency and to show the superiority of the proposed method compared to the two other structures.

Traditional lithography techniques are currently facing challenges, including high costs and the susceptibility of mask plates to damage. This research aims to elucidate the feasibility and technical constraints of a novel diffraction lithography approach. This method can reduce the size and cost of lithography machines, break through existing technological barriers, and offer new possibilities for the future development of lithography machines. We have built a basic computational holographic lithography system utilizing a 405nm laser and validated the system using holograms obtained with both classical GS algorithm and a newly proposed method. With the GS holograms, patterns with 700nm features have been successfully exposed on the photoresist. With our new algorithms, multiple holograms for the same target pattern can be generated with different settings in the algorithm. Sequential exposure of those holograms resulted in continuous lines 500 nm wide with reduced speckle artifacts, which was about a 1.4-time improvement over the result from the GS algorithm. Future research will focus on optimizing and enhancing the experimental system and the hologram calculation methods to reduce the line widths further and improve the exposure pattern quality. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. The importance of proper data normalization for deep neural networks is well known. However, in continuous-time state-space model estimation, it has been observed that improper normalization of either the hidden state or hidden state derivative of the model estimate, or even of the time interval can lead to numerical and optimization challenges with deep learning based methods. This results in a reduced model quality. In this contribution, we show that these three normalization tasks are inherently coupled. Due to the existence of this coupling, we propose a solution to all three normalization challenges by introducing a normalization constant at the state derivative level. We show that the appropriate choice of the normalization constant is related to the dynamics of the to-be-identified system and we derive multiple methods of obtaining an effective normalization constant. We compare and discuss all the normalization strategies on a benchmark problem based on experimental data from a cascaded tanks system and compare our results with other methods of the identification literature.

In the human pose estimation task, on the one hand, 3-D pose always has difficulty in dividing different 2-D poses if the view is limited;on the other hand, it is hard to reduce the lifting ambiguity because of the lack of depth information, it is an important and challenging problem. Therefore, two-stage representation refinement based on the convex combination for 3-D human pose estimation is proposed, in which the two-stage method includes a dense-spatial-temporal convolutional network and a local-to-refine network. The former is applied to determine the features between each video frame;the latter is used to get the different scales of pose details. It aims to address the difficulty of estimating 3-D human pose from 2-D image sequences. In such a way, it can better use the relations between every frame in the sequence of the pose video to produce more accurate results. Finally, we combine the above network with a block called convex combination to help refine the 3-D pose location. We test the proposed approach on both Human3.6m and MPII datasets. The result confirms that our method can achieve better performance than improved CNN supervision, a simple yet effective baseline, and coarse-to-fine volumetric prediction. Besides, a robustness test experiment is carried out for the proposed method while the input is interrupted. The result verifies that our method shows better robustness. © 2024 IEEE.
