This paper presents the design and implementation of an energy management system (EMS) for a renewable energy system using Matlab Simulink and Arduino Mega. The proposed renewable energy system is composed of an electrolyzer, a battery, photovoltaic modules, and fuel cells. The developed energy management is implemented on the Arduino board to control the connection of the different components to the load based on the load power consumption, the battery's charge state, and the energy produced by the photovoltaic modules. The energy management system inputs include the information on the amount of energy produced by the photovoltaic modules, the power used by the load, and the battery's charge state. When the produced energy exceeds the energy used by the load and the batteries are fully charged, the system allows the electrolyzer to connect to the photovoltaic modules to produce the hydrogen. Our proposed system is based on low cost technology that intends to extend the life of the batteries and enhance the efficiency of the renewable energy system by the production and using the hydrogen. The obtained experimental results show the effectiveness of the EMS in controlling the connection of the different components. © 2022 IEEE.

The integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into the smart grid has introduced new challenges and opportunities for optimizing power and energy management. This paper presents a simple method using a decision-tree to estimate allocation of electric vehicle grid interfaces (EVGIs) for EV charging/discharging, leveraging the nodal capabilities of a distribution system. The future distribution system will cater for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) transactions in addition to grid-to-vehicle (G2V) transactions, thus EVGIs allowing for bidirectional (G2V/V2G) power flows need to be deployed. The proposed decision-tree method is based on nodal power flow ratings and peak demand at the nodes assuming the nodal voltages are maintained within their stability envelopes by volt-var optimization and other voltage control methods. The allocation of EVGIs in the IEEE 34 test node feeder distribution system using the decision-tree method is illustrated. The EVGI allocation using decision-trees is a simple method that can provide insights of a typical distribution system's capability to support EV integration with emerging smart grid technologies.

Globally, the circular efficiency of biomass resources has become a priority due to the depletion and negative environmental impacts of fossil fuels. This study aimed to quantify the atmosphere-dependent combustion of Ganoderma lucidum (GL) biomass and its thermodynamic and kinetic parameters toward enhancing its circularity and transformability characteristics. The GL combustion occurred in the three stages of moisture removal, volatile release, and coke combustion. Combustion performance characteristics were more favorable in the N2/O2 atmosphere than in the CO2/O2 atmosphere under the same heating rates. The rising heating rate facilitated the release of volatiles. According to the model-free methods of Ozawa-Flynn-Wall and Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose, the activation energies essential for the primary reaction were 283.09 kJ/mol and 288.28 kJ/mol in the N2/O2 atmosphere and 233.09 kJ/mol and 235.64 kJ/mol in the CO2/O2 atmosphere. The gaseous products of the GL combustion included CH4, H2O, C = O, CO, CO2, NH3, C = C, and C–O(H). Ash prepared in both atmospheres exhibited a tendency for slag formation, with oxy-fuel combustion lowering its risk. This study thus provides a theoretical and practical basis for transforming GL residues into a sustainable energy source. This paper presents Artisan, an automated operational amplifier design framework using large language models (LLMs). We develop a bidirectional representation to align abstract circuit topologies with their structural and functional semantics. We further employ Tree-of-Thoughts and Chain-of-Thoughts approaches to model the design process as a hierarchical question-answer sequence, implemented by a mechanism of multi-agent interaction. A high-quality opamp dataset is developed to enhance the design proficiency of the Artisan-LLM. Experimental results demonstrate that Artisan outperforms state-of-the-art optimization-based methods and benchmark LLMs, in success rate, circuit performance metrics, and interpretability, while accelerating the design process by up to 50.1X. This paper proposes a multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MADRL) based algorithm for charging control of multiple electric vehicles (EVs) in an electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) with dynamic operations. By taking the uncertainties of EV users’ behaviors and charging prices into consideration, a Markov game with multiple objectives is first established, where the individual objective of reducing EV charging costs and the collective objective of mitigating charging load fluctuations are both studied. Then, a multi-agent actor-double-critic (MAADC) algorithm with a unified advantage actor-critic framework is proposed, where two advantage functions are designed as the local and global critics, and the integrated actor is employed to balance the learning towards the individual and collective objectives. In this paper, we propose an observer-based visual pursuit control integrating three-dimensional target motion learning by Gaussian Process Regression (GPR). We consider a situation where a visual sensor equipped rigid body pursuits a target rigid body whose velocity is unknown but dependent on the target's pose. We estimate the pose from visual information and propose a Gaussian Process (GP) model to predict the target velocity from the pose estimate. We analyse stability of the proposed control by showing that estimation and control errors are ultimately bounded with high probability. Finally, simulations illustrate the performance of the proposed control schemes even if the visual measurement is corrupted by noise. © 2021 The Author(s). The videoscope (VS) images have poor quality and low contrast. Hence, in this paper, three proposed frameworks to improve the quality of VS images are presented. The first framework depends on contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) with adaptive gamma correction. The second framework depends on homomorphic processing. The third framework is based on the homomorphic enhancement with histogram equalization. Energy storage systems (ESSs) are vital in various applications, including electric vehicles (EVs) and microgrids. In comparison, lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are widely used in ESSs, and challenges such as power density, thermal management, and cell voltage balance prompt the exploration of alternative solutions. Integrating supercapacitors (SCs) alongside batteries in hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) presents a promising solution. SCs can provide high bursts of power, extending battery lifespan and improving efficiency, especially during high-demand scenarios like acceleration and braking. Optimizing energy management strategies (EMS) is crucial to minimize operational costs and ensure practical battery usage within HESS. Different driving cycles, such as the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) and World Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), provide insights into real-world driving conditions. HESS configurations and operational modes, including traction and regenerative braking, are essential for efficient EV operation. This study uses simulation models to investigate EVs' performance with HESS under various driving conditions, highlighting the system's stability and adaptability.

Residential photovoltaic (PV) systems, which have become widely integrated into distribution systems, are typically installed behind-the-meter (BTM). However, accurate estimates of the BTM PV generation are necessary for load forecasting, network control, and demand response, so the measured net load data must be disaggregated into separate measurements of PV generation and pure load. This paper proposes a dictionary learning-based, customer-level PV disaggregation framework based on constructing customer-specific dictionary atoms. First, the observable data of a reference home is used to disaggregate the data of another fully observable home. The disaggregation is formulated as dictionary learning problem and solved via lasso regression. Then, synthetic dictionary atoms are constructed as a weighted linear combination of the PV generation and pure load profiles of the reference home, and the estimated profiles of the second observable home. The weights are optimized to minimize the disaggregation error of the known profiles of the second observable home. Finally, the data of the target home is disaggregated initially. Then, the optimized weights are used to construct synthetic exemplars using the reference home's data and the initial disaggregation estimates of the target home. The proposed method is compared to the case where synthetic exemplars are not used and is tested under a variety of weather conditions. Case study results show that the proposed framework reduces the disaggregation error by $3.27-81.01 \%$ , with a mean reduction of $\mathbf{2 0. 2 4 \%}$ across all test days.
