This paper highlights the importance of the wake-up receiver in applications using WSN while offering a brief description of this element. In this work, the design of a low-power envelope detector for wake-up receiver applications is presented. By using RF-TSMC CMOS 0.18μm, the proposed envelope circuit is designed for 52 GHz frequency. The forward body biasing method is employed to decrease the circuit energy consumption. The proposed circuit can achieve 152MHz cut-off frequency over the operating frequency range and has power dissipation of 87.5μW under 1V. © 2023 IEEE.

Semiconductor design houses rely on third-party foundries to manufacture their integrated circuits (ICs). While this trend allows them to tackle fabrication costs, it introduces security concerns as external (and potentially malicious) parties can access critical parts of the designs and steal or modify the intellectual property (IP). Embedded field-programmable gate array (eFPGA) redaction is a promising technique to protect critical IPs of an ASIC by redacting (i.e., removing) critical parts and mapping them onto a custom reconfigurable fabric. Only trusted parties will receive the correct bitstream to restore the redacted functionality. While previous studies imply that using an eFPGA is a sufficient condition to provide security against IP threats like reverse-engineering, whether this truly holds for all eFPGA architectures is unclear, thus motivating the study in this article. We examine the security of eFPGA fabrics generated by varying different FPGA design parameters. We characterize the power, performance, and area (PPA) characteristics and evaluate each fabric's resistance to Boolean satisfiability (SAT)-based bitstream recovery. Our results encourage designers to work with custom eFPGA fabrics rather than off-The-shelf commercial FPGAs and reveals that only considering a redaction fabric's bitstream size is inadequate for gauging security. © 1993-2012 IEEE.

Pneumonia is an infectious disease of the lungs, caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi. Pneumonia is distinguished by acute inflammation of the lung tissue, causing the consolidation of the terminal bronchioles and alveoli. According to the WHO (the World Health Organization), this disease causes about 4 million deaths. Among the methods of diagnosing pneumonia uses a chest X-ray. This is widely used to visualize pulmonary abnormalities. This work aims at the detection and characterization of pneumonia by the development of computer-assisted diagnosis systems (DAOC). We use deep learning algorithms and chest X-ray images from a pneumonia database to examine the classification of pneumonia. To improve the accuracy, we compare several deep learning models. This research contributes to meeting the growing demand for medical personnel by addressing the global incidence of chest disorders. © 2024 IEEE.

Learn to Bid as a Price-Maker Wind Power Producer

Wind power producers (WPPs) participating in short-term power markets face significant imbalance costs due to their non-dispatchable and variable production. While some WPPs have a large enough market share to influence prices with their bidding decisions, existing optimal bidding methods rarely account for this aspect. Price-maker approaches typically model bidding as a bilevel optimization problem, but these methods require complex market models, estimating other participants’ actions, and are computationally demanding. To address these challenges, we propose an online learning algorithm that leverages contextual information to optimize WPP bids in the price-maker setting. We formulate the strategic bidding problem as a contextual multi-armed bandit, ensuring provable regret minimization. The algorithm’s performance is evaluated against various benchmark strategies using a numerical simulation of the German day-ahead and real-time markets. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. The integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into the electric power distribution system poses numerous challenges and opportunities for optimizing energy management and system operations. Electric vehicle grid interfaces (EVGIs), essentially bidirectional power converters, allow for charging/grid-to-vehicle (G2V) and discharging/vehicle-to-grid (V2G) power transfers. A power dispatch estimation (PDE) model for V2G, based on availability of EVs in a distribution system and capabilities of the distribution system, is needed to assist in grid operations. This paper presents the development of a PDE model based on nodal power flows to capture the complex spatiotemporal dependencies inherent in G2V and V2G patterns. The hierarchical structure of a distribution system, feeder to EVGI node, is taken into consideration for PDE. Typical PDE estimation results are presented for the IEEE 34 test node feeder distribution system allocated with EVGIs.

The growth of hydrogen infrastructure is expected to aid in the integration of fluctuating renewable energy in distribution systems. To leverage the hydrogen system flexibility, this work presents a mixed-binary quadratic program (MBQP) model for synergistic operations of hydrogen and power distribution systems, wherein truck-mounted mobile hydrogen storage facilities are modeled for the schedule of their routes and loading/unloading quantities. A quantum-assisted combinatorial Benders' decomposition algorithm is designed for our MBQP model to deploy the solving of master and sub-problems on a quantum processing unit (QPU) and a classical CPU, respectively. The master problem is reformulated as a quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) problem, which can be efficiently solved by quantum annealers. The proposed approach was tested on a hybrid quantum annealing and classical computing platform. Results show a trend to outperform the CPU-based commercial solvers as the problem scale increases. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

The upcoming 6G mobile wireless networks are expected to support massive ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (mURLLC), which is an emerging service that demands more stringent requirements than the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks on delay and error-rate bounded quality-of-services (QoS) with massive connectivity. Finite blocklength coding (FBC) techniques based short packets communication techniques have been shown to be able to support both the statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning. Rate splitting (RS) multiple access schemes have been proposed to address the sum degree-of-freedom loss problem over massive multiple-input and multiple-output channels when massive mobile users request to access the network. However, how to support the statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning using FBC among massive mobile users to enable the massive access has not been sufficiently studied. In this paper, we propose to integrate FBC with RS techniques to achieve mURLLC transmissions. First, we define the ∊-effective capacity to measure the performance of statistical delay and error-rate bounded provisioning, and obtain a closed-form ∊-effective capacity under the RS scheme. Then, we maximize the aggregate ∊-effective capacity over all mobile users by deriving an optimal transmit power allocation strategy for the RS scheme. Finally, using numerical analyses, we validate and evaluate our proposed RS schemes to support statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning over 6G communication networks in the non-asymptotic regime.
