Classification of histology sections from large cohorts, in terms of distinct regions of microanatomy (e.g., tumor, stroma, normal), enables the quantification of tumor composition, and the construction of predictive models of the clinical outcome. To tackle the batch effects and biological heterogeneities that are persistent in large cohorts, sparse cellular morphometric context has recently been developed for invariant representation of the underlying properties in the data, which summarizes cellular morphometric features at various locations and scales, and leads to a system with superior performance for classification of microanatomy and histopathology. However, the sparse optimization protocol for the calculation of sparse cellular morphometric features is not scalable for large scale classification. To improve the scalability of systems, based on sparse morphometric context, we propose the predictive sparse morphometric context in place of the original implementation, which approximates the sparse cellular morphometric feature through a non-linear regressor that is jointly learned with an over-complete dictionary in an unsupervised manner. Experimental results indicates over 50 times speedup compared to our previous implementation with the help of non-linear regressor; while producing competitive performance.

:The suitability of samples for a given research depends on many variables, among which, the best preanalytical conditions for the type of test that should be carried out. Thus, standardization and harmonization of processing conditions for samples entering a particular study should be highly pursued to facilitate research collaborations among different institutions and biological banks, allowing specimen comparison both for sample sharing and for the development of large-scale clinical trials. In this study, we review some issues and scenarios related to the adoption of the Sample PREanalytical Code, which deserve attention for a proper management of the samples and, ultimately, for maximizing the efficiency of the consistent investments required to set up biobanking resources.

It is well known that vertical take-off and landing(VTOL) aircraft system is a complex multi-variable nonlinear system with large disturbances. In order to control the VTOL aircraft system ef ciently, it is necessary to explore new optimal control methods to stabilize the system states. In this paper, we apply dual heuristic programming(DHP) to design the optimal controller for VTOL aircraft system. As a framework of approximate dynamic programming(ADP) algorithm, DHP consists of three modules: model, critic and actor. The critic module output partial derivatives of cost function with respect to state. It has many advantages such as good dynamics, fast convergence rate, and high control resolution. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of optimal controller for VTOL aircraft system based on the DHP algorithm.

This work proposes a policy iteration procedure for the synthesis of optimal and globally stabilizing control policies for Linear Time Invariant (LTI) Asymptotically Null-controllable with Bounded Inputs (ANCBI) systems. This class includes systems with eigenvalues on the imaginary axis (possibly repeated) but no pole with positive real part. The proposed policy iteration relies on a class of piecewise quadratic Lyapunov functions which is non-differentiable, but continuous, and polynomial in both the state and the deadzone functions of the input signals. The second step of the policy iteration is based on a piecewise control policy improvement. An important aspect of the proposed piecewise policy is that at each step of the iteration the computed policy is globally stabilizing and the existence of an improving value function is guaranteed as well. The solution to the inequalities which is required to hold at each step of the policy iteration, is obtained by solving Sum-of-Squares Programs (SOSP) that can be efficiently implemented with semidefinite programming (SDP) solvers.
