Nowadays, the carpet quality analysis is determined in industry by human experts, because the automated assessment is not capable of matching the human expertise. Therefore, the carpet company demands a reliable and economic standardization of carpet wear level. This paper presents a new strategy for analyzing and classifying the texture of the wear carpet surface of 3D image, where 3D image is produced by 3D laser scanner. 2D image is obtained from 3D data resample on different grid sizes. The features extracted are based on Haralick descriptors of co-occurrence matrix. These features are used as inputs to a classifier system, which is based on support vector machine (SVM). Multi-class classification training based on SVM is applied. The performance of the new technique proposed gives an average of over 92% correct labeling.

control theory deals with disciplines and methods leading to an automatic decision process in order to improve the performance of a control system. The evolution of control engineering is closely related to the evolution of the technology of sensors and actuators, and to the theoretical controller design methods and numerical techniques to be applied in real time computing. New control disciplines, new development in the technologies will fertilize quite new control application fields. Based on the contributions of the Technical Committees within CC2 the status report gives an overview of the current key problems in control theory and design, evaluates the recent major accomplishments and forecasts some new areas. It points out some control fields, which could be challenges for future research.

Complex economic models often describe the agent's decisions, i.e. choice of some controlled variables in accordance with criteria set by agents. Unlike purely statistical ones, agent-based models allow to describe processes with different modes, in which the agent's behavior changes quali-tatively when the environment (including the actions of other agents) change. The practical use of mathematical models of complex systems with a number of interacting agents is limited by complexity of their construction and possible errors when dealing with multitude of expressions. Computer tools, such as the 'Ecomod' system discussed in the article, can substantially reduce the time spent on model creation and processing, and help to coordinate the work of several researchers on the model. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper describes an approach to the image borders detection that is based on the use of the weight model and the operation of the morphological gradient calculating. The proposed method relates to multiscale image segmentation methods that use the Haar orthogonal wavelet transform. The border detection procedure includes smoothing the original image, building the weight model of the image (weight image), smoothing the weight image, setting the threshold weight value, performing threshold transformation of the weight image to form a binary image, and performing gradient morphological processing of the binary image. The described method allows segmenting the original image to extract information about the borders. This information is used to calculate attributes and their analysis in computer vision systems. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper explores the impact of the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) presence on distribution grid operations, highlighting the challenges they present to conventional pricing strategies due to their dual role as power consumers and suppliers, coupled with their energy storage capabilities. We propose an advanced real-time pricing model for the electricity market, employing a novel distributed bilevel optimization framework. This framework distinguishes between the distribution system operator (DSO) at the upper level and the EVs at the lower level, each aiming to optimize profit margins. The optimization includes power flow constraints at the upper level to ensure efficient operation within safe system limits, while model predictive control (MPC) is used to optimize lower-level EV responses. Additionally, we provide a rigorous convergence analysis of the proposed bilevel optimization method. Detailed convergence studies and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm.

A MATLAB virtual laboratory to support learning of auto-tuning PID approaches

This paper presents a small number of MATLAB APPs and livescript files designed to help students both understand and implement PID tuning. The paper presents the thinking behind the use of MATLAB and the topic itself before then describing the proposed resources in detail. The resources split into files with detailed mathematical and coding background students can use for self-study and assignments, and a virtual laboratory which is more intuitive and interactive and useful for familiarisation with core concepts. The files were recently added to the control101 toolbox (Rossiter, 2023).

This letter is devoted to the concept of instant model predictive control (iMPC) for linear systems. An optimization problem is formulated to express the finite-Time constrained optimal regulation control, like conventional MPC. Then, iMPC determines the control action based on the optimization process rather than the optimizer, unlike MPC. The iMPC concept is realized by a continuous-Time dynamic algorithm of solving the optimization;the primal-dual gradient algorithm is directly implemented as a dynamic controller. On the basis of the dissipativity evaluation of the algorithm, the stability of the control system is analyzed. Finally, a numerical experiment is performed in order to demonstrate that iMPC emulates MPC and to show its less computational burden. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The vast majority of the software developers use the agile framework for project management. Agile approach provides more flexibility and adaption to the changes against classic software development approach. The key methodology of agile approach represents the scrum. The core of scrum management forms sprint, which represents a time shift activity and envelops all other events of scrum. The outcome of the sprint should be the increment in development of the project, which is possible to submit to the customers or the users. The paper maps the possibilities of visualization of the course of individual sprints at everyday meetings of the research team (stand up meetings), which have a decisive influence on the quality of communication of the research team and the overall success of the project. © 2019 VSB-Technical University of Ostrava. Heat exchange belongs to the class of basic thermal processes which occur in a range of industrial technologies, particularly in the energetic, chemical, polymer and rubber industry. The process of heat exchange is often implemented by through-flow heat exchangers. It is apparent that for an exact theoretical description of dynamics of heat exchange processes it is necessary to use partial differential equations. Heat exchange is namely a process with distributed parameters. It is also necessary to take into account its nonlinear and stochastic character. In spite of these facts, most of thermal equipment is controlled by digital modifications of PID controllers at present. This paper deals with identification of a dynamic behaviour of a through-flow heat exchanger and a design of a self-tuning predictive controller for its control. The designed controller was verified by a real-time control of an experimental laboratory heat exchanger.
