Efficient and simple noise filtering for stabilization tuning of a novel version of a model reference adaptive controller

For the adaptive control of imprecisely and partially modeled nonlinear systems a novel class of "Model Reference Adaptive controllers" (MRAC) using "Robust Fixed Point Transformation" (RFPT) was recently proposed. It applies convergent iterative "learning sequence" of a local and bounded region of convergence. To make it competitive with the Lyapunov function based techniques, which normally guarantee global stability, this new approach was complemented with additional parameter tuning keeping the iterative sequence in the vicinity of the solution of the control task. For an "n-th order system" the novel controller also observes the n-th time-derivatives of the controlled coordinates that may make the adaptive tuning sensitive to measurement noises. To reduce this effect a simple noise filtering method is recommended. Extended simulation results are presented for the adaptive control of a pendulum of an indefinite mass center point determined by the presence of dynamic coupling with an internal degree of freedom that is only approximately modeled by the controller. It is neither observable nor directly controllable. It was found that the simple filtering recommended considerably reduced the sensitivity of the novel method proposed and substantiated the expectations that it could be applied in practice. © 2012 Springer London.

The increasing demands on quality of power, emissions and overall performance of combustion engines lay new goals for the hardware and the software development of control systems. High-performance embedded controllers open the possibilities for application of numerical methods to solve the problems of modeling and control of combustion engines. Algorithms for estimation of state and parameters are essential components of many advanced control, monitoring and signal processing engine applications. A widely applicable estimator is given by the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) which defines a finite memory recursive algorithm suited for real-time implementation, where only the last measurement is used to update the state estimate, based on the past history being approximately summarized by the a priori estimate of the state and the error covariance matrix estimate. The proposed EKF uses an augmented air-path state-space model to estimate unmeasurable mass flow quantities. The EKF algorithm based on the augmented state-space model considerably reduces the modeling errors compared to the open loop estimator simulation and compared to the EKF without the augmentation which is demonstrated on a standard production Diesel engine data. The experimental validation of the observed state quantities is performed against the measured pressures and turbocharger speed data. The estimated mass flow quantities are indirectly validated through the air compressor flow that is directly validated against air mass flow sensor data. Two two-sensor setups are considered in this study. In the first experiment the intake manifold pressure and the turbocharger speed is used. The second experiment uses the intake manifold pressure and the exhaust manifold pressure as the measurement information for the EKF. The second experiment gives more precise mass flow estimate in term of less bias on the estimates, but more variance due to the high frequency exhaust manifold pressure variations caused by the

Thanks to development of information technology, the so-called virtual software environments offer wide possibilities for the estimation of time-space dynamical characteristics of energy systems, including modeling, control and design of distributed parameter systems. Based on these advances, we present a novel approach to control energy systems as lumped-input and distributed-parameter-output systems. An adaptive-predictive controller is deployed to control temperature fields to ensure optimal conditions for the desulphurization process in a coal-burning fluidized bed furnace, demonstrating the potential of the proposed methodology.

To investigate the genetic basis of type 2 diabetes (T2D) to high resolution, the GoT2D and T2D-GENES consortia catalogued variation from whole-genome sequencing of 2,657 European individuals and exome sequencing of 12,940 individuals of multiple ancestries. Over 27M SNPs, indels, and structural variants were identified, including 99% of low-frequency (minor allele frequency [MAF] 0.1-5%) non-coding variants in the whole-genome sequenced individuals and 99.7% of low-frequency coding variants in the whole-exome sequenced individuals. Each variant was tested for association with T2D in the sequenced individuals, and, to increase power, most were tested in larger numbers of individuals (>80% of low-frequency coding variants in ~82 K Europeans via the exome chip, and ~90% of low-frequency non-coding variants in ~44 K Europeans via genotype imputation). The variants, genotypes, and association statistics from these analyses provide the largest reference to date of human genetic information relevant to T2D, for use in activities such as T2D-focused genotype imputation, functional characterization of variants or genes, and other novel analyses to detect associations between sequence variation and T2D.

We introduce notions of ordinary and standard products of a-finite measures and prove their existence. This approach allows us to construct invariant extensions of ordinary and standard products of Haar measures. In particular, we construct translation-invariant extensions of ordinary and standard Lebesgue measures on R∞ and Rogers-Fremlin measures on l∞, respectively, such that topological weights of quasi-metric spaces associated with these measures are maximal （i.e., 2c）. We also solve some Fremlin problems concerned with an existence of uniform measures in Banach spaces.

In this paper an anti-slip predictive controller is designed and implemented in order to control the rear wheels of a V-PRA (Variable Powered Rear Axle) vehicle. The control algorithm is EPSAC, a Model based Predictive control (MPC) strategy. It uses explicitly a model of the system for the prediction of the future system output, in order to calculate the optimal control input which will bring the system to a required setpoint. The main goals of this predictive controller were setpoint trajectory following, disturbance rejection and maintain overall the stability of the V-PRA vehicle. Although the process is nonlinear, being influenced by several parameters, linear discrete-time ARX models could be obtained based on system linearization around an operating point. An initial SISO controller was developed and tested, based on a Simulink model of the process. The control performances were tested successfully in presence of all kind of disturbances, denoting a robust controller. © 2011 IFAC.

In this paper, is presented one software development and implementation of an algebraic method for XML data processing, which accelerates XML parsing process. Therefore, the proposed in this article nontraditional approach for fast XML navigation with algebraic tools contributes to advanced efforts in the making of an easier user‐friendly API for XML transformations. Here the proposed software for XML documents processing (parser) is easy to use and can manage files with strictly defined data structure. The purpose of the presented algorithm is to offer a new approach for search and restructuring hierarchical XML data. This approach permits fast XML documents processing, using algebraic model developed in details in previous works of the same authors. So proposed parsing mechanism is easy accessible to the web consumer who is able to control XML file processing, to search different elements (tags) in it, to delete and to add a new XML content as well. The presented various tests show higher rapidity and low consumption of resources in comparison with some existing commercial parsers.

In this paper, are presented some possibilities for application of an algebraic method which handles XML hierarchical data structures and makes faster the XML search mechanism. The article briefly presents the concepts of Web Services, Service-Oriented Architecture and other modern software paradigms for organization of the processes over internet. The accelerating techniques for XML navigation through linear algebra tools are also discussed. Web Services use the internet as the communication medium and focus on the internet-based standards, which include the Simple Object Access Protocol for transmitting data, Web Services Description Language for defining services, and other message interactions. The presented paper offers one different point of view concerning the building of an algebraic formalism for navigation over XML hierarchy. This nontraditional approach, based on the linear algebra theory, leads to easier interface for XML search techniques that could eliminate some existing language constructions. © 2010 IEEE.

Real-time applications should timely deliver synchromzed data-sets, minimize latency in their response and meet theIr performance specifications in the presence of disturbances and faults. The fault tolerant behavior in mobile robots refers to the possibility to autonomously detectt and identify faults as well as the capability to continue operating after a fault occurred. This paper introduces a real-time distributed control application with fault tolerance capabilities for differential wheeled mobile robots, named ARTEMIC. Specific design, development and Implementation details will be provided in this paper. © 2010 IEEE.
