The problem of first order differentiation, when an estimation of an upper bound of the second derivative is available on-line, is studied in this paper. The proposed method include two approaches: Second Order Sliding Mode and High-Gain algorithms, and consider the differentiator gain as a continuous time varying function. This scheme provides chattering attenuation, increasing at the same time the overall performance. Experimental results, realized over an Industrial Hydraulic System, confirm the efficiency of the methodology.

A problem of position control of a forestry crane is studied. Several features of industrial hydraulic systems are pointed out, namely a nonlinearity of a valve and a pressure compensator. A novel model of a hydraulic system with the pressure compensator is presented and analyzed, a static nonlinearity inversion and a velocity feedforward control term are introduced. Real-time experiments with controllers which use only position measurements illustrate utility of these terms.

The paper presents a new systematic analysis method in order to estimate the total absorbed power and energy in linear electric and magnetic circuits with modifiable parameters. The relation between the variation in one or all the resistances and reluctances of the networks and the variation of total absorbed power and energy are discussed using the Lagrange's method. For the considered applications the results are obtained with Mathematica and Maple useful for establishing the variation limits of absorbed power and energy.

The main issue of this paper is social machine, analyzed as united system of computers and people. Here proposed analysis presents the social machines as a class of relationships between individual and social behavior on one hand, and between hardware and software systems on the other hand. The emergence of social machines can be expected to fundamentally change the way in which such properties and functions of the social systems are built. In this context, the concept about social machines appears as a contemporary model for unifying both computational and social processes. Providing social machines engineers with the appropriate modern tools to create corresponding system functions is a problem, which needs to be addressed to future scientists in this new area.

The paper is focused on systems with delay terms at the left (and the right) side of differential equations. Analysis and synthesis of delay systems can be conveniently studied through a special ring of RQ-meromorphic functions. The control methodology is based on a solution of Diophantine equations in this ring. Final controllers result in the Smith predictor like structure. controller parameters are tuned through a pole-placement problem as a desired multiple root of the characteristic closed loop equation. The methodology is illustrated by a stable second order transfer function with a dead-time term. Then the paper brings an autotuning method as a combination of biased-relay feedback estimation and the proposed algebraic control design. The developed approach is illustrated by examples in the Matlab and Simulink environment.

In this paper, authors introduce PHP5's XML implementation and show how to read, parse, and write a short and uncomplicated XML file using Simple XML in a PHP environment. The possibilities for mutual work of PHP5 language and XML standard are described. The details of parsing process with Simple XML are also cleared. A practical project PHP-XML-MySQL presents the advantages of XML implementation in PHP modules. This approach allows comparatively simple search of XML hierarchical data by means of PHP software tools. The proposed project includes database, which can be extended with new data and new XML parsing functions.

This paper describes methods and the obtained results for objective evaluation of software architectures in the automotive embedded domain. Software architecture is the key factor for influencing and fulfilling non-functional requirements that are addressed to a software system. Among others scalability, extensibility and portability are to be mentioned as major criteria. Until today however there is no approach that allows evaluating and measuring the quality of such software architectures objectively and quantitatively. The approach described here tries to close this gap and offers software architects methods and tools to be applied automatically to any existing architecture draft measuring an objective 'quality value'. Initially a quality model is developed which consists of several quality characteristics and quality attributes which are highly adapted and specialized to the specific needs of the automotive embedded software domain. After the identification of relevant quality attributes eight objective architecture metrics are developed and presented. The whole methodology is fully integrable into existing development processes. The suggested steps and artifacts can be added as optional upgrade. For a better understanding of the surrounding environment the current development process and necessary extensions are also explained. All metrics have been implemented in a fully functioning prototypical tool which can be operated via a graphical user interface (GUI) on any Java compliant system without further requirements. The user can freely configure which metrics shall be applied and how they are weighted to do an individual evaluation according to the software's specific needs or requirements. To prove its benefit for automotive applications and long-term establishment in the software development process the approach is evaluated. This is done in two consecutive steps.
