Spatial modulation (SM) is a low-complexity multiple-input/multiple-output transmission technique that combines index modulation and quadrature amplitude modulation for wireless communications. In this work, we consider the problem of link adaption for generalized spatial modulation (GSM) systems that use multiple active transmit antennas simultaneously. Link adaption algorithms require a real-time estimation of the link quality of the time-variant communication channels, e.g., by means of estimating the mutual information. However, determining the mutual information of SM is challenging because no closed-form expressions have been found so far. Recently, multilayer feedforward neural networks were applied to compute the achievable rate of an index modulation link. However, only a small SM system with two transmit and two receive antennas was considered. In this work, we consider a similar approach but investigate larger GSM systems with multiple active antennas. We analyze the portions of mutual information related to antenna selection and the IQ modulation processes, which depend on the GSM variant and the signal constellation. © VDE VERLAG GMBH · Berlin · Offenbach.

Noise suppression and understanding speech in a complex environment with the presence of numerous and dominant surrounding noise is very difficult for humans. To deal with this problem, microphone array, which exploit a priori information of designed geometry of microphone array, the direction of arrival (DOA) of interest signal or the properties of recorded situation, is used with aiming at preserving the desired speaker without speech distortion while reducing background noise. Generalized Sidelobe Canceller (GSC) beamformer has been installed in almost all acoustic equipment, hearing aids, mobile phones. Unfortunately, the performance of GSC beamformer is often corrupted in many scenarios, such as imprecise DOA, microphone mismatches or different microphone sensitivities. In this paper, a spectral mask - based suggested algorithm to reduce the speech leakage in the reference signal of GSC beamformer. The proposed method is evaluated for increasing the speech quality of dual - microphone systems. © 2023 IEEE.

An effective hands-free speech interface with an appropriate digital signal processing is essential for teleconference systems and control systems. Beamforming technique, which use a microphone array (MA) is an ideal solution for distant - talking speech acquisition, is one of the most attractive approaches for suppressing background noise and improving the speech intelligibility and speech quality of the processing system. Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) has the capacity of maximizing the sensitivity in a certain direction at aiming to extract the desired target speech while removing all total power of surrounding noise. However, in many complex recording environments, due to the error of direction of arrival of interest speaker, the difference of microphone sensitivities, imprecise designed geometry of MA, the performance of MVDR beamformer often degraded. In this contribution, the authors suggested an additive post-filtering to enhance the effectiveness of MVDR beamformer. © 2023 IEEE.

Traditional lithography techniques are currently facing challenges, including high costs and the susceptibility of mask plates to damage. This research aims to elucidate the feasibility and technical constraints of a novel diffraction lithography approach. This method can reduce the size and cost of lithography machines, break through existing technological barriers, and offer new possibilities for the future development of lithography machines. We have built a basic computational holographic lithography system utilizing a 405nm laser and validated the system using holograms obtained with both classical GS algorithm and a newly proposed method. With the GS holograms, patterns with 700nm features have been successfully exposed on the photoresist. With our new algorithms, multiple holograms for the same target pattern can be generated with different settings in the algorithm. Sequential exposure of those holograms resulted in continuous lines 500 nm wide with reduced speckle artifacts, which was about a 1.4-time improvement over the result from the GS algorithm. Future research will focus on optimizing and enhancing the experimental system and the hologram calculation methods to reduce the line widths further and improve the exposure pattern quality. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Anomaly detection from medical images is badly needed for automated diagnosis. For example, medical images obtained with several modalities, such as magnetic resonance (MR) and confocal microscopy, need to be classified for anomaly detection. The MR images may contain tumors that need to be detected with anomaly detection techniques. In MR imaging, brain tumors are represented as areas composed of abnormal cells that need to be detected. On the other hand, confocal microscopy can be used for retinal imaging. Hence, there is a need to apply classification techniques for diagnosing diseases of the eye, such as Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), which leads to exudates in different regions of the retina. The detection of exudates is necessary for the diagnosis of DR. In this paper, two models are presented for the classification of MR and retinal images. Much research has been done in this area, but it did not achieve high accuracy of classification in an acceptable time. In addition, the previous models did not consider both types of image modalities considered in this paper. The suggested models are Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (Conv-LSTM). They are used to classify normal and abnormal cases of both brain tumor and DR diseases. The CNN model is composed of six convolutional layers and six max-pooling layers. A soft-max activation function takes the classification decision. The proposed Conv-LSTM model is composed of three stages: pre-processing, feature extraction, and classification. The deep learning model performance is better than those of traditional networks. The CNN gives an accuracy of 94.26% for DR classification and 95.8% for brain tumor classification, while the Conv-LSTM gives the maximum accuracy of 96.41% for DR classification and 97.4% for brain tumor classification. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Speech processing devices such as mobile telephone, hearing aid, cochlear implant is commonly equipped with a designed microphone array (MA) to capture the acoustic environment. The MA signals often contain a mixture of desired speech component and unwanted surrounding noise (a combination of reverberation, different interferences, complex recording environment, third-party speaker). Minimum Distortionless Variance Response (MVDR) beamformer is one the most useful methods for reducing background noise and improving speech enhancement has been recently studied. MVDR beamformer merges the predefined constraints of response from a priori relative transfer function and the criteria of minimum total output noise power. Because of the microphone mismatches, the different microphone sensitivities, or the error of the direction of arrival of the interest signal, the output final signal of MVDR beamformer often corrupted. In this paper, the authors proposed an additive gain function for reducing speech distortion and enhancing MVDR beamformer's performance. © 2023 IEEE.

Monitoring the driver’s attention is an important task to maintain the driver’s safety. The estimation of the driver’s gaze direction can help us to evaluate if the drivers are not focusing their attention on the street. For an evaluation of this type, comparing the inside view and outside scenery of the vehicle is essential, therefore we decided to create a specific dataset for this task. In this work, we realize a machine-learning-oriented approach to driver’s attention evaluation using a coupled visual perception system. By analyzing the road and the driver’s gaze simultaneously it is possible to understand if the driver is looking at the traffic signs detected. We evaluate if a determined Region Of Interest (ROI) contains a road sign or not through YOLOv8. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

As IoT systems would have an economic impact, they are gaining growing interest. Millions of IoT devices are expected to join the internet of things, which will carny both major benefits and significant security threats to consumers. For IoT systems that secure data and preserve privacy of users, trust management is an essential component. IoT objects carry on the ownership settings of their owners, allowing them to interact with each other. Social relationships are believed to be important in confidence building. In this paper, we consider the analysis and control of continuous-time nonlinear systems to ensure universal shifted stability and performance, i.e., stability and performance w.r.t. each forced equilibrium point of the system. This "equilibrium-free" concept is especially beneficial for control problems that require the tracking of setpoints and rejection of persistent disturbances, such as input loads. In this paper, we show how the velocity form, i.e., the time-differentiated dynamics of the system, plays a crucial role in characterizing these properties and how the analysis of it can be solved by the application of Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) methods in a computationally efficient manner. Furthermore, by leveraging the properties of the velocity form and the LPV framework, a novel controller synthesis method is presented which ensures closed-loop universal shifted stability and performance. The proposed controller design is verified in a simulation study and also experimentally on a real system. Additionally, we compare the proposed method to a standard LPV control design, demonstrating the improved stability and performance guarantees of the new approach. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. This paper studies efficient algorithms for dynamic curing policies and the corresponding network design problems to guarantee fast extinction of epidemic spread in a Markov process-based susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS) model. We provide a computationally efficient curing algorithm based on the curing policy proposed by Drakopoulos, Ozdaglar, and Tsitsiklis (2014). Since the corresponding optimization problem is NP-hard, finding optimal policies is intractable for large graphs. We provide approximation guarantees on the curing budget of the proposed dynamic curing algorithm. To avoid the waiting period included in the original curing policy, we study network design problems to reduce the total infection rate by deleting edges or reducing the weight of edges. To this end, we provide algorithms with provable guarantees. In summary, the proposed curing and network design algorithms together provide an effective and computationally efficient approach that mitigates SIS epidemic spread in networks. © 2024 IEEE.
