—Large-scale centralized development of wind and solar energy and peer-to-grid transmission of renewable energy source (RES) via high voltage direct current (HVDC) has been regarded as one of the most promising ways to achieve goals of peak carbon and carbon neutrality in China. Traditionally, large-scale thermal generation is needed to economically support the load demand of HVDC with a given profile, which in turn raises concerns about carbon emissions. To address the issues above, hydrogen energy storage system (HESS) and ammonia energy storage system (AESS) are introduced to gradually replace thermal generation, which is represented as a multi-stage expansion planning (MSEP) problem. Specifically, first, HESS and AESS are established in the MSEP model with carbon emission reduction constraints, and yearly data with hourly time resolution are utilized for each stage to well describe the intermittence of RES. Then, a combined Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition (DWD) and column generation (CG) solution approach is proposed to efficiently solve the large-scale MSEP model. Finally, a real-life system in China is studied. The results indicate that HESS and AESS have the potential to handle the intermittence of RES, as well as the monthly imbalance between RES and load demand. Especially under the goal of carbon neutrality, the contribution of HESS and AESS in reducing levelized cost of energy (LCOE) reaches 12.28% and 14.59%, respectively, which finally leads to a LCOE of 0.4324 RMB/kWh. This paper presents an interactive motion control method based on reinforcement learning, designed to assist children with autism who have social motor impairments through a mirror game intervention. The virtual teacher uses the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) algorithm to optimize its actions, guiding the participant to follow a Lissajous trajectory. To ensure safety, a motion-correction mechanism was developed, which automatically adjusts actions when the predicted trajectory surpasses predefined safety boundaries. The reward function considers both the distance between the virtual teacher and the target trajectory, as well as the distance between the virtual teacher and the participant, with dynamic adjustments applied by the motion-correction mechanism. Experimental results demonstrate that the virtual teacher effectively guides the participant towards the target trajectory while adhering to safety constraints.

NASA has titled its 2020 thrust for the Moon, Artemis. The increased focus on the Moon as a destination for future human and robotic expeditions necessitates general purpose navigational and communications infrastructure reducing their complexity to help establish a sustained presence. A framework through which Lunar missions can relay communications and localize their positions shifts the burden from the individual mission and enables resource allocation tailored to mission-specific goals. During the summer of 2020, student interns under the Innovation to Flight (i2F) program at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration s (NASA) Jet Propulsion laboratory (JPL) in collaboration with the University of Colorado Boulder designed, built, and tested a prototype framework capable of providing surface assets with communication and positioning services. The team utilized the existing i2F CubeSat bus in addition to developing several CubeSat engineering development units (EDUs), a ground vehicle, and a ground station to simulate a scenario in which a lunar surface mission is supported by these services. A primary goal of the summer was to develop a method for localizing the ground vehicle through trilateration. Distances are inferred from the round-Trip time of flight (ToF) of radio signals between an asset and several elements. Signals were sent and received using LimeSDR software defined radios on-board both the ground vehicle and the EDUs;ToF and trilateration were calculated on a Qualcomm Snapdragon development board located within the LA MOON payload data system. The ModalAI chipset on the Qualcomm was instrumental in executing visual based position estimation. Communications was facilitated through a bent-pipe approach addressing the NASA requirement to provide solutions for in communication denied locations. control of systems with operating condition-dependent dynamics, including control moment gyroscopes, often requires operating condition-dependent controllers to achieve high control performance. The aim of this paper is to develop a frequency response data-driven linear parameter-varying control design approach for single-input single-output systems, which allows improved performance for a control moment gyroscope. A stability theory using closed-loop frequency response function data is developed, which is subsequently used in a synthesis procedure that guarantees local stability and performance. Optimal Sizing of Isolated Renewable Power systems with Ammonia Synthesis: Model and Solution Approach

Isolated renewable power to ammonia (IRePtA) has been recognized as a promising way to decarbonize the chemical industry. Optimal sizing of the renewable power system is significant to improve the techno-economic of IRePtA since the investment of power sources exceeds 80% of the total investment. However, multi-timescale electricity, hydrogen, and ammonia storages, minimum power supply for system safety, and the multiyear uncertainty of renewable generation lead to difficulties in planning. To address the issues above, an IGDT-MILFP model is proposed. First, the levelized cost of ammonia (LCOA) is directly formulated as the objective, rendering a mixed integer linear fractional programming (MILFP) problem. Information gap decision theory (IGDT) is utilized to handle the multiyear uncertainty of renewable generation. Second, a combined Charnes-Cooper (C&C) transformation and Branch-and-Bound (B&B) method is proposed to efficiently solve the large-scale IGDT-MILFP model, giving robust and opportunistic planning results. Then, Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling-based posteriori analysis is leveraged to quantify the long-run performance. Finally, a real-life system in Inner Mongolia, China, is studied. The results indicate that the proposed methods could reduce the computational burden by orders of magnitude for solving a large-scale MILFP problem. Moreover, the proposed IGDT-MILFP model is necessary and accurate to obtain an optimal capacity allocation with the lowest expected LCOA (3610 RMB/t) in long-run simulations. Visual-based object detection has become a crucial component in the realm of autonomous vehicles. However, conducting reliable testing for such systems remains unresolved. In this paper, we advocate for the application of causal inference to investigate the pivotal environmental factors influencing detection accuracy. Through the integration of diffusion models, we address the specialized conditional generalization of hazardous testing images. Our approach involves the construction of observational data to attribute key factors and fine-tune the diffusion model. Additionally, we introduce an optimal prompt words search method that strikes a balance between test coverage and level of challenge. Subsequently, leveraging these optimal prompts, we propose a cost-effective testing image generation through both "Text2Scene" and "Image2Scene" fashions. The experimental results indicate that, on the generalized dataset, the performance of object detection algorithms is the poorest, with the average detection accuracy decreasing from 0.81 to 0.285. Moreover, retraining object detection models on our generalized critical test cases can ultimately enhance algorithm performance, achieving a median accuracy improvement of up to 8.13%. Overall, our research proposes a novel approach to generalize test cases, thereby contributing to the advancement and deployment of safer autonomous vehicles.

Spatial frequency (SF) is a characteristic of an image that could dissociate course and fine shape information. Physiological and psychophysical studies widely investigated the role of various SF contents in image processing. Inspired by the primate brain structure, deep neural networks improved various computer vision tasks such as image classification. Physiological studies show that low SF (LSF) contents of an image could be processed faster to provide feedback to facilitate object recognition. However, this knowledge has not been considered in designing neural network structures. This study introduces SFNet, a new neural network structure that employs an LSF-based feedback mechanism. SFNet is a two-stream structure where one stream is used for LSF processing to provide feedback for image classification. The other stream combines the LSF-based feedback and the HSF processing to form the final decision. The role of the proposed LSF-based feedback in image classification is investigated utilizing the CIFAR100 dataset. The results show that SFNet improves the performance in the presence of SF filtering compared to the equivalent structures.

A Multi-population Integrated Approach for Capacitated Location Routing

The capacitated location-routing problem involves determining the depots from a set of candidate capacitated depot locations and finding the required routes from the selected depots to serve a set of customers whereas minimizing a cost function that includes the cost of opening the chosen depots, the fixed utilization cost per vehicle used, and the total cost (distance) of the routes. This paper presents a multi-population integrated framework in which a multi-depot edge assembly crossover generates promising offspring solutions from the perspective of both depot location and route edge assembly. The method includes an effective neighborhood-based local search, a feasibility-restoring procedure and a diversification-oriented mutation. Of particular interest is the multi-population scheme which organizes the population into multiple subpopulations based on depot configurations. Extensive experiments on 281 benchmark instances from the literature show that the algorithm performs remarkably well, by improving 101 best-known results (new upper bounds) and matching 84 best-known results. Aiming at the truck scheduling problem in the open-pit mine scenario, a truck scheduling model based on real-time ore blending is established, and an adaptive evolution algorithm for truck scheduling based on DCNSGA-III is proposed. In the established scheduling model, the real-time grade variance of the crushing plant is minimized as one of the optimization objectives, and the Q-learning algorithm is introduced to adaptively select one of the most effective operators during the search process. Experiments show that the proposed method can effectively control the grade fluctuation of the ore flow and better scheduling schemes are obtained in comparison with algorithms equipped with the traditional search operator selection methods.

To facilitate responsive and cost-effective computing resource scheduling and service delivery over edge-assisted mobile networks, this paper investigates a novel two-stage double auction methodology via utilizing an interesting idea of resource overbooking to overcome dynamic and uncertain nature from edge servers (sellers) and demand from mobile devices (as buyers). The proposed auction integrates multiple essential factors such as social welfare maximization and decision-making latency (e.g., the time for determining winning seller-buyer pairs) reduction, by introducing a stagewise strategy: an overbooking-driven pre-double auction (OPDAuction) for determining long-term cooperations between sellers and buyers before practical resource transactions as Stage I, and a real-time backup double auction (RBDAuction) for handling residual resource demands during actual transactions. In particular, by applying a proper overbooking rate, OPDAuction helps with facilitating trading contracts between appropriate sellers and buyers as guidance for future transactions, by allowing the booked resources to exceed supply. Then, since pre-auctions may cause risks, our RBDAuction adjusts to real-time market changes, further enhancing the overall social welfare. More importantly, we offer an interesting view to show that our proposed two-stage auction can support significant design properties such as truthfulness, individual rationality, and budget balance. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate good performance in social welfare, time efficiency, and computational scalability, outstripping conventional methods in dynamic edge computing settings.
