DeepLeaf: an optimized deep learning approach for automated recognition of grapevine leaf diseases

Plant diseases can cause severe losses in agricultural production, impacting food security and safety. Early detection of plant diseases is crucial to minimize crop damage and ensure agricultural sustainability. Manual monitoring is often impractical due to the complexity and time involved, making automated disease recognition essential. This study presents a new Plant Disease Detection Algorithm (PDDA) called DeepLeaf focused on identifying four common grapevine diseases: leaf blight, black rot, stable, and black measles. The PDDA integrates three key modules: an Image Preprocessing Module, a Feature Extraction Module, and an Optimized Convolutional Neural network (OCNN)-based Classification Module. The OCNN forms the core of the classification system, with its hyperparameters fine-tuned using fuzzy optimization to enhance performance. Preprocessing techniques are applied to analyze diseased leaves, and a logistic regression algorithm is used to downsample the features for better analysis. The CNN is trained on images from the Plant Village dataset, allowing it to detect and classify grapevine leaf diseases accurately. The proposed model's efficiency in the automated diagnosis of grapevine diseases is demonstrated by its remarkable 99.7% accuracy rate. This high accuracy indicates that the PDDA may help with more effective and scalable plant disease monitoring, which will ultimately allow better agricultural practices. © The Author(s) 2025.

Electric Vehicles (EVs) become very important issue and gained attention due to many reasons like its economic price, saving environment and more reliable. In this study, controlling speed for EV is utilized by tracking the desired speed using Fractional Order Proportional Derivative (FOPD) controller with a smart tuning algorithm named Sunflower Optimization (SFO) algorithm to satisfy robust and efficient controlled speed. The numerical analysis is obtained using Matlab program in two steps, controlling the system to reach the desired value in best and stable response then apply two undesired signals (disturbance signals) to test system robustness and finally compare the suggested controller with different conventional controllers(Normal PD controller-Optimal PD controller). © 2024 IEEE.

Multiagent coordination research tends to focus on strategies such as Multiagent Reinforcement Learning which makes extensive use of inter-agent communication. This works well in abstracted simulations, but may be challenging or non-feasible to implement in real-world environments because many problems of interest can have sparse, intermittent, or contested communication frameworks. This paper extends the Hierarchical Auctions for the Coordination of Heterogeneous Agents (HACHA) approach to investigate hierarchical auctions and machine learning to facilitate teaming between agents in a system where some agents enter and leave the communication graph at regular intervals, akin to a satellite. Results presented in the paper show that the method is able to identify, distribute, and monitor tasks despite communication challenges. This paper shows that allowing multiple children to propagate auctions results in lower average search times and higher success rates. © 2025, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. Three new modifications of second-order low-frequency discrete analog filters (DAFs) based on switched capacitors have been developed and studied. A distinctive feature of the DAFs under consideration is the presence of two resistors in the general feedback circuit. This allows, at constant values of the capacitances of the frequency-setting capacitors and a fixed switching frequency of electronic switches, to control the frequency of the DAF pole by changing the resistance ratio of these resistors. The basic equations for the low-pass filter gain at zero frequency, the low-pass filter gain at the pole frequency, as well as formulas for calculating the pole frequency and pole attenuation are given. In the Micro-Cap environment, computer simulation of the proposed modifications of the DAF was performed, which shows that the considered circuit solutions perform the functions of a low-pass filter. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a look-ahead vehicle control scheme for efficient traffic management at signalized intersections. The proposed scheme predicts future driving states with a look-ahead approach as an extended adaptive cruise control (ACC) model. It maintains car-following behavior similar to human driving while predicting future states of traffic flow to minimize intersection clearing time and aggressive braking independently, similar to model predictive control (MPC) approaches. In contrast to MPC models that are computationally demanding and have limited practical applications due to real-time constraints, the proposed scheme uses a modified Intelligent Driver Model (IDM) with predictive adjustments. The efficiency of the control scheme is evaluated through simulations with multiple vehicles in intersection traffic scenarios, focusing on maintaining safe time headway within a traffic flow and ensuring efficient flows with higher intersection throughput. Comparative results indicate improvements in intersection clearance, human-like vehicle headway management, and enhanced traffic flow performance. © 2025 The Society of Instrument and control Engineers.

This paper presents an approach for incorporating a priori knowledge into Markov Parameter based system identification approaches such as the Eigensystem Realization Algorithm. The assumption of full state feedback measurements in the derivation of the weighting sequence description for the Eigensystem Realization Algorithm yields an alternative definition of the system Markov Parameters. This new Markov Parameter definition permits the use of an Equation Error approach which allows the user to implement a priori knowledge and generate confidence bounds on the individual elements in the state and control influence matrices. This approach is then extended to the Observer/Kalman Filter Identification algorithm input/output description which allows for estimation of the matrix elements using both system Markov Parameters and observer gain Markov Parameters. A first order truncation of the series expansion of the discrete-time state and control matrices is introduced to allow for the computation of parameters in the continuous state-space matrices rather than performing a discrete to continuous-time computation. The developed approach is demonstrated on flight data of a small Unmanned Air System, and is shown to identify a model of similar quality to a model generated by the Observer/Kalman Filter Identification algorithm in terms of the averaged Theil Inequality Coefficient. © 2025, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. This paper presents an analysis of the effectiveness of blood vessel segmentation in human retinal images. The segmentation process was carried out for three-dimensional optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans using the author's publicly available CAVRI-C database. A 3D version of the U-Net artificial neural network was used. Various dimensions of the input blocks were investigated to determine their influence on the segmentation process. The effectiveness of the proposed solutions was evaluated using various metrics and the results obtained were compared with the 2D solution, also based on neural networks. The use of the proposed solutions allowed us to improve the segmentation even by 15% (in the case of the F1-score). © 2023 Division of Signal Processing and Electronic systems, Poznan University of Technology (DSPES PUT).

This paper presents a comprehensive exploration into the critical aspect of effector design within the context of mobile platforms utilised during emergency scenarios. In times of crisis, ranging from natural disasters to man-made incidents, the efficiency and versatility of mobile platforms equipped with specialised effectors play a pivotal role in ensuring effective response and mitigation. The proposed robotic system consists of a universal platform, a robotic arm, and a custom effector with controls. Our experimental verification of the system shows promising results and the feasibility of the proposed system. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents an innovative approach to optimize traffic networks in a supplier-customer system based on specific strategies of game theory. The traffic network is represented as a routing configuration in which the arcs represent various possible roads between supplier and customer entities, each route having an associated transport cost for the product unit. The game structure is defined by a matrix of transport costs between the players, supplier and customer, with their corresponding strategies. Based on these costs, the game matrix is built to which the existing quantities in warehouses are added, respectively the quantities requested by the final customers. By solving the game associated to the transportation traffic network, the different strategies are proposed for choosing the optimal solution. The simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach and recommend some performant procedures for solving the game, such as Hurwicz, Laplace and Savage, close to optimal solution. This research opens new directions for management optimization in other domains such as comunication, electrical and administrativ networks. © 2024 The Authors.
